This is our neighborhood, Pat. My husband and I have visited BKK several times, and are headed back this coming winter. We use this area as our home base when we visit SEAsia. We have always stayed 2 minutes from the Skytrain stairs at Bangkok Loft Inn. I think it is changing, but it seems to be benefitting regular humans as well as others. There's a small Theravada Temple back there. The entire Wat is all there, only everything is on a much smaller scale, than the Grander Temples through out the city. Beautiful murals. Counting the days!
I'm glad l finally got to Wongwian Yai as it's a very authentic example of Bkk in the 1960s / 70s. I could have done an hours video easily and included that temple and so much more!
I agree best Bangkok you tuber. You know your history and geography of this city. Thank you thank you. I hope one day we bump into each during our exploring I would love to pick your brain
There’s a weed shop on Lat Ya Rd. Your Highness. I took a family on a tour from WWY station to Samut Songkhram in the mid ‘90’s, rolled up to the station in two taxis with all their bags, the locals look was like aliens had arrived!
What a great area. Nice that its low rise. Great circle. That area could be really cosmo. Give it 5 years. And the horror story was truly horrid. 👺And a porno theatre! That's old school.

Great episode, Pat, with fun angles and twists as always. This video in particular makes me realize how much I've missed, even so close to where we live. Any plans to cover districts further north, like Bangkok Noi and (our own district) Taling Chan?
Nice film Pat. I love how you get the old film footage and explain the history of places. You have a great understanding. I went to Wong Wian Yai and got the train to Mahachai in November 2020 during lockdown. You are right, it felt like a real community. For that house in 2014 that was a tragic murder/suicide of 5 family members I wonder, how can anyone live there now with all those ghosts? Love the URBEX minute too. Bangkok is an amazing place. Shame on those who hate on our city!
Cheers Eddie, glad you enjoyed it, fabulous area for filming, bit like 70s Bkk! The house of horrors was sad, but l think whoever lives there now either doesn't know, or doesn't care! But they have a good ghost detector in that cat!
This reminds me of another BKK roundabout, Pat... Victory Monument. To me it's the Piccadilly Circus of Bangkok, totally deserving a look. Btw, IIRC from WWY bts, you can use the skywalk to get to the main boulevard, then descending to the sidewalk, keep on another half km or so, you'll get to the train station. A longish walk, but you get to tromp on local ground.

If you get off at the BTS you can take a shortcut, walk about 20 meters and then take a right down the side soi...you'll be able to get to the circle a lot faster

Was just in Thonburi about a month ago by accident after taking the train out of Nakhon Pathom in the wrong direction. I was a student at the International School of Bangkok, when it was still on Sukhumvit Soi 15. This was like a walk back in time in a city that I miss greatly.
I wonder if you can verify the origin of the name Bangkok. The story I have (and I forget where I got it from), is that it used to be Baan Magog (Baan - as prefix for many villages or towns) and Magog meaning the Thai olive, perhaps there were once upon a time many olive groves around the area which is now Bangkok. Then the British bastardised that name into Bangkok...not sure if this story is true, but it is, as many stories, a good one.
Brilliant video Pat and brings back good memories as I used to work in the area. On Lat Ya road for ECC, many yrs ago when I was a young English Teacher there. It amazes me that some of these old photos, somehow I believe you personally took them. But if not, good research!

Hi Pat. Always interesting to see around Bangkok. My mother in law lives at Wongwian 22. I was told once that only 2 Wongwians have been named. Firstly Wongwian 22 then Wongwian yai. I don't know if it is true or not Keep up the good work Regards Peter
Hey Patrick, one question: Do the locals recognize you as one of their own and do they still offer you stuff like ping-pong shows and other annoying sh*t like they do with the farang tourists?
Just wanted to drop you a message Pat and say we love your videos and the effort you put into them! Your love of Bangkok is obvious and you take us back to a special time 👍
excellent vid Pat. We have never been across the river and I have long wondered about it, but I need wonder no more; of course there is much more to see. I love the communal feel about it and the lack of major dept. stores etc., though this would not suit my better half, sadly. Like many Thai ladies, loves to shop....still.

You have done outstanding research into each one of these videos - I even like the one you tell the story (I get your humor or should I say humour), so as a fan who is a subscriber, I would like you to continue to do this and I look forward to your tours of Bangkok.
p.s. It amazes me that some of these old photos, somehow I believe you personally took them. But if not, good research!
Thanks and really glad the videos evoke great nostalgia for you. Of course l didn't take the old photos (l wish l had!) but l do enjoy trying to work out the same location the photigrapher stood in so l can take a present day shot!
Hi Pat.
Always interesting to see around Bangkok. My mother in law lives at Wongwian 22. I was told once that only 2 Wongwians have been named. Firstly Wongwian 22 then Wongwian yai. I don't know if it is true or not
Keep up the good work
Regards Peter
Some places get called 'wongwian' if it's an intersection but officially l think you are right
There's a rooftop bar in that area that i will try this coming week: S'amuser
What's funny is I am S'amuser right now. I checked my notifications, and there you were. Would recommend S'amuser when you're in the area again.
I have been here 11 yearsand explore a lot of it's not too hot but your videos are very informative and I go and the places you go to.
Thanks Sally! Maybe you would be tempted to visit the haunted house?
Super and Excellent piece of work Pat from a long time Thai follower living in the USA.
Many thanks!😍
Hey Patrick, one question:
Do the locals recognize you as one of their own and do they still offer you stuff like ping-pong shows and other annoying sh*t like they do with the farang tourists?
Only if I wear shorts and flipflops.
buy 24 toilet rolls and get 6 for free excellent for those with Bangkok belly
Combined with a bum gun they would last for months!
Awesome, thank you, again great stuff...
Cheers Oliver 🤩
Can I ask where you get your sound clip from? Thanks.
Artlist website has all the music l use.
Just wanted to drop you a message Pat and say we love your videos and the effort you put into them! Your love of Bangkok is obvious and you take us back to a special time 👍
Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind words 😊
great video. thx
That was the area i spend 3 years of my life there and live, before covid, really nice and bring me lots of memories , thanks for video
Outstanding report, thank you for all of your work!!!
Cheers Joe😇
Superb video Pat, I went passed it last week by bus from Hua Hin, keep up the good work 😊
Thanks Richard👍
Ghost Apartment with Black cat lets hope the Spirits dont come back
Those pesky spirits won't risk the wrath of a black cat, that's too dangerous
excellent vid Pat. We have never been across the river and I have long wondered about it, but I need wonder no more; of course there is much more to see. I love the communal feel about it and the lack of major dept. stores etc., though this would not suit my better half, sadly. Like many Thai ladies, loves to shop....still.
I also enjoy the other side of Bangkok
Great to hear that! I also explored this part of Thonburi:

P.S. Pat you certainly sold me on this area to explore next time around Bangkok. Any old style hotels in the area?
Yes l saw 3, Bangkok Loft inn and two others, one at the beginning of Intharathipak Road on the left and one at the beginning of Lat Ya Road on the right, check google maps.
Incredible work Pat. Many things I didn't even know. And glad we could be useful.
And many thanks to you both for the help with this video, lunch is on me next time, I promise!
Thanks for amazing content as always Pat
Thanks Jack 😍
Great video! Thanks for sharing 👍🙏
Thanks Jeffrey 😎
