THE INVERTED THING OMG I THOUGHT YOU HAD TO MATCH THE ARROWS AND STICK DIRECTION... Punchy, you just changed my gameplay - And the diagonals tooo????? Well now I won't stress on those things at all now. I love it!
fwiw I do not think this works on 3DS Curtain Call. Was playing it earlier today and diagonals seemed a lot pickier, you can't crush it as blatantly. This is tech that mostly only applies to Arcade and Final Bar Line
Although I did find out that on DS, taps can be done as slides, and there are some songs that will try and give you , eg, • < • < • < • < • And this can just be done as < > < > < > < > < > With the stylus
Super helpful, thanks for sharing! I'm mostly comfy on Ultimate after a few hours but some of those faster diagonal patterns catch me out often so I'm definitely going to incorporate this. Maybe I can give Supreme an honest try after that haha!
This exact same thing also happened with the 3ds version, diagonals could always be cheated with the normal directions Its silly but at the same time nice to see its been kept
@@narius_jaden215 I never used the touchpad and always played with the shoulder buttons and little joystick on the 3DS already, but what trips me up in this game is having to use both joysticks.
i think that would also work yes. I just presented Up+Down because that's what I find easier to work with for some reason (i don't actually have any idea how Groove Coaster's version of this works)
@@PunchyYT In groove coaster, there are specific notes with a very sharp angle and both arrows pointing to one side, and you hit both directions that way
Not me watching these guides as someone who has the OG Theatrhythm and Curtain Call - and I end up going "there's... and arcade version?" as I choke on my coffee. The years of drought for content... all lost.
Guides like this are definitely pushing me over the fence into getting it, some of the inputs have been bothering me but this helps immensely. Do you have tips for those long holds that go up and down by any chance? Sometimes it feels like the cursor is lagging inexplicably, other times it feels like it's stuck properly even if I'm not very exact with my 'tracing'.
Push the stick all the way up or all the way down regardless of how slightly it's going in those directions. no diagonals, do not trace the line, you cannot overshoot, just go full in either direction.
That advice is particularly useful for the really fast strings that go horizontal-up-horiz-up-horiz-up, for example. Just hold up the whole time. Horizontal hold doesnt care about whether you're also incidentally holding a direction
Personally, I often fail left and right arrows, because the game thinks I'm doing bottom-left (or bottom-right) direction. So I do up-left (or up-right) to be safe.
Please help me with the green button hold when you have to hold down one note and then simultaneously switch to another green hold note as it’s ending 😢
Hello Punchy I just wanted to ask. I noticed you’re playing on the PS4 controller. Is there a way you can do it on a switch pro controller? Or on Handheld Mode?
i'm actually using the PS5 controller but the game doesn't have a display for that. The same principles shown in this video will work fine on any switch controller.
I got the game and expected these to destroy me but my biggest issue is actually with hold notes where you have to hit other notes at the same time. IDK if I should dedicate some buttons to different types of notes and stuff, too much freedom in the controls is bugging me out.
It's very often the fact that they will switch the rhythm from the top bar to the bottom bar, etc, so it tricks you into trying to switch your hands. Try and learn where it does that and manually override it in your brain if you can. Playing in prac mode and just following one rhythm at a time helps
Thanks for sharing this helpful info! I gotta ask, does the logic for crushing diagonal inputs also work for, say, the diagonals at the end of some hold notes?
I hope I can internalize this on a controller. I've been trying but it's very slow relearning the same charts I used to obliterate on arcade using this tiny thing. I sincerely wish I could have an arcade style controller for this game. I'd pay hundreds just for that input scheme.
it's definitely not a bug since the behaviour was modified a little over the arcade game's lifetime and transplanted faithfully to Final Bar Line indicating full awareness of how it works.
Damn this kinda crushes my hopes of the game being released on pc, no way you can do something like this with mouse and keyboard lol at best they'll do a "only works with controller" sorta thing again
i have no skin in that particular game but I don't see why this wouldn't play perfectly fine on a keyboard. it basically works like groove coaster and that is perfectly playable on a KB
@@PunchyYT Was gonna say the same thing since I play Groover Coaster on PC just fine as well. I definitely hope the game comes to PC as well at some point. I love Final Fantasy and rhythm games too much not to have gotten it on console anyway, but I am really more a PC gamer so I'd buy it again if it was released on PC. They did also release the Kingdom Hearts rhythm game on PC so I have some hope, even if it's only available in the EPIC store to my knowledge. Better than nothing, though!
Ok there is the “efficient way” to play it, which it’s obvious no inverted notes. But there is the fun and natural way to do it, which is do the inverted. You slide the fingers in for the first, then epically move them back out for the second! That just feels so good even though it’s 9000x harder to pull off lol
I find this way is far better from a rhythm standpoint! But this is still useful. You can go out-in or in-out to start, doesn't matter! This has saved my combo a BUNCH
I’ve played a TON of the arcade version back when my local round 1 had it and I didn’t even know this stuff! Big ups!
Mind blown. Now to see if my brain will be able to do that input translation fast enough.
Super Helpful. Could not figure this out & trying to find the answer. U got me thru it.

Thanks Punchy!

Yeah the double slide mechanic isn’t even in Curtain Call iirc, since it’d be impossible to do with the touch screen controls
Although I did find out that on DS, taps can be done as slides, and there are some songs that will try and give you , eg,

Super helpful, thanks for sharing! I'm mostly comfy on Ultimate after a few hours but some of those faster diagonal patterns catch me out often so I'm definitely going to incorporate this. Maybe I can give Supreme an honest try after that haha!
This is gonna make attempting more of the Ultimate charts and the Supremes much easier. Cheers!
Very helpful. Made the ending section of Apocalysis Noctis Ultimate much easier for me.
This exact same thing also happened with the 3ds version, diagonals could always be cheated with the normal directions
Its silly but at the same time nice to see its been kept
I had a feeling since I noticed it a couple of times and I thought I was inputting wrong. Thanks for pointing it out!
Crushing Diagonals into Cardinal Inputs feels like cheating but I’ll take it
TBF I disagree only because it was much more manageable to do that crap on a touch screen lol
Let us play the game how er like to..
@@narius_jaden215 I never used the touchpad and always played with the shoulder buttons and little joystick on the 3DS already, but what trips me up in this game is having to use both joysticks.
by all means make it harder on yourself if it makes you feel better
Crushing diagonals into cardinals is like playing FF6. Blitz inputs!
Not me finding out one of my favourite runners plays this-
Yesssssssss
question, this might be just my groove coaster brain talking but for the notes at 3:20 could you just do Right + Right or Left + Left?
i think that would also work yes. I just presented Up+Down because that's what I find easier to work with for some reason

There's a free demo on switch store!
i was kinda messing around with these ideas as well, definetly helpful
Just started playing this game and my jaw dropped
Very informative video 10/10 would recomend
Thanks for this! Super helpful
yooooooo. elevating my play, thank you. i'll break into supreme yet
The same quirks also apply to Groove Coaster on Switch, which has very similar gameplay.
So helpful. I hate those Double Slide Arrows notes. It hinders my concentration so bad that always makes me miss the next notes.
Holy crap, I did not know about the diagonals thing at all! I just thought the game was being generous with my inputs lol
Technically it is being generous with your inputs. Lol

yeah if you want

press other button while releasing the first one. idk what you want me to tell you here

Those slide notes aren't explained anywhere in the demo. Weird AF. Thanks for this

okay i need more guides on this game :D
If you've got a green hold starting at the same time as a red tap, just hold both. It doesn't care when a red is released

I've heard rumors of a brooke board in the works to drop the switch into an arcade cab to work with the machine buttons. I'm sure it's a ways out but
yeah i got weirded out when i noticed this is this like a bug or was it intended by the devs?
it's definitely not a bug since the behaviour was modified a little over the arcade game's lifetime and transplanted faithfully to Final Bar Line indicating full awareness of how it works.
I theorized this, but was always too afraid to test and lose my combo. I don't lab this game as much as I should.
