I wish this line-up would've stayed together. Ollie was a awesome singer. (& imagine this line-up with the current bass singer Wille Green - cause Blue passed.)
Ali got throat cancer shortly after the “For Lovers Only” recording sessions ended, and had to leave the group. Ray Davis, who replaced Melvin, had the same problem, and also left before the album’s release. Ali did return for one performance overseas with the group in 2002 filling in for Barrington “Bo” Henderson. Fun Fact: Willie Greene toured with Ali Woodson,Richard Street, and Damon Harris.
He was sick, and eventually passed away on February 23rd,1995 at the age of 52. Melvin’s death leaves Otis as the last surviving founding member of the group.
@@slendus8363 Otis just said hopefully he'll be back end of this month or October. I don't think anyone knew Melvin would pass in a couple months. According to the book he got really sick around 93 with health issues but he was still going until mid 94
Otis said he was under the weather, but he had several health problems since the 1960’s. He died five months after this on February 23rd,1995 at the age of 52 leaving Otis as the last surviving founding member of the group.
The incomparable Mr. Ali Ollie Woodson. His voice lives on 2021
And 2024
