Nice video and welcome to the crossbow club! I'm just north of you in Mass and have been using the XP400 for the past 10 months here. This is my third crossbow and the best I have owned to date. I hunt with mine here for deer and coyotes (crossbow permit due to an injury) and must say that the XP400 is a very capable bow. I have taken deer out to 60 yards and a few coyotes out to 50 yards. Like you stated, with ammo prices soaring it is no longer feasible to head out and target shoot anymore. Thank you for the video and happy shooting!
The XP400 was my first crossbow. I also have the XP380, TS380, CRX280, SA Sports Fever, and the Ballista Bat reverse draw mini crossbow. Crossbows are addictive.❤
Pro tip, Fully wax the bow string BEFORE mounting the bow to the stock the ensure the section in the crossover slot & flight track doesn't wear out prematurely. Second, ever drawing and triggering stresses and slightly breaks down the tensile strength of the string so no dry fires.
Bought one a year ago, took off the crank as it’s not auto stop and almost took my hand off, easier to just haul it back with cocking rope, great shooting bow, still didn’t get my rebate from Barnett lol
Nice 👍 presentation John and your followers out here have a lot in common so always respect our thoughts at the same time being helpful. Yes ,your volume is suspect but placing my headphones on quickly resolved the issue.. I’m a retired pro photographer and yes a remote lavalier mic would help but I’m more concerned with your video presentation. You require a friend to assist you in your sessions.. He/she should capture the in close moments when your describing any in sequence assembly..I.e.-attaching the bow to the rail assy. The bowstrings/ cables do not go straight in .. They traverse up/over.. In close and personal would be well received to show the layout and the direction of these strings/ ropes.. Just trying to help .. I have a Barnett Buck Commander and have taken 6 deer in the past 5 years. I live just over the state line in Massachusetts have a disability license, Vietnam Vet , age 87 and have taken over 💯 🦌 deer with the bow . I love my sport and I too have just ordered a Barnett expedition xp400 ..Looks like a jewel to own especially with a Garmin zero X1i.. As we come out of this pandemic I wish you all good health, prosperity and success in the field this fall👍. P.S.- Place a go pro near the target to capture the moment and place of impact ,, then edit it in..
Justin Wilson is the Cajun cook. I have the same crossbow, and right out of the box, the optics could be better, but mine was just 2 inches left and down. So it’s pretty good.
When you crank it(CCD ON) and it is locked into place, you move the selector to (OFF), you should be able to release the cable to place them bak ck onto the holders. If it doesn't go to OFF, just hold a little tension on the cranking arm. Good luck.
Nice. I was thinking about getting some sort of a silent air or pellet rifle. Went to Cabela's today in CT. Very few guns, a few boxes of ammo. Glad I bought the crossbow.
@@johndeweyoutdoors7725 go online to any of these,, or just search for air rifles,, pyramid air,, air guns of arizona, air gun depot,, just to name a few, i have 3 22 calibur break barrels, 1 30 cal. break barrel, my 30 cal and 1 of my 22 cal will go through 1 inch of pine at 25 yards
At the 14:53 mark when you are cocking it, the bow "pops" and you take the tension off. Do you know what that noise was and does it still do it? I bought one and it makes that sound and it sort of makes me nervous.
@@isaiahhorstman1777 It seems to be well made, and it does feel rugged. Barnett has been making crossbows for many years. I believe this one will last. I normally take good care of my equipment.
You summed it up when you said, ADAPTATION. we all have to adapt, take precautions, prepare and take care.
Practicality rules!

had my volume all the way up on my desktop and still couldnt hear it
I've also intigrated Pellet Guns in my mix. The Gamo Swarms are a sweet addition.
Great choice, Barnett makes outstanding and very durable xbows. The cranks could be better though.

Considering this crossbow. Not a big crank fan. Is this crossbow easy to cock using a rope device?
Well,.....it took awhile get to the Bow Review,...... but we finally got there !
We need a follow up video
JD you funny...thanks Kool vid
Nice video bud pity it's really hard to hear you need to get a mic bud but cool video thanks
Cool video, looks like a durable, well made bow.
cool dude, in the movies you need to be sniffed, the facial expressions are very expressive. good luck with your hunting.
Is that a western W49 bowie?

I cranked mine up but I don’t know how to uncock it without the crank going crazy

Does the amount of time you have your crossbow cocked effect the accuracy?
i have an excalibur micro 335, i'm also getting into high powered air rifles

They have such terrible instructions! Thanks for the video
wow nice
That cranking seems very loud to use hunting
You crank it by your truck then walk to where you’re hunting then put arrow in it
Justin Wilson Oooooeeeeeee "I guarantee"
Terrible sound. Very low
can't hear you

That noise is when it is locked into place. Then you can release the crank tension. Thanks for the question.
U gotta make sure it’s in the right grove
hi John. I enjoyed this review. 1 question. Is the cranking mechanism ambidextrous? Cheers Mate.
Yes it is. I tried it to be sure. thanks for watching. It's a nice bow.
Dude your volume is so low its very hard to hear.
yes but you have an NRA hat on Ha. but i love crossbows thank you
What crank are you using
This crank came with it. Works very well.
Bought the same bow, same box everything but i have no crank🤔
Can not hear you !!!!
Audio too low. I left in 10 seconds.
Sorry
I'm sorry but I can't hear a thing he's saying...
cant hear you speak up
Thank you for the feedback. I will do so on the next video. I apologize for the soft audio.
@@johndeweyoutdoors7725 one question about the crossbow would u say it is a sturdy one and one and would last a while
