Wow. This handgun was traumatic to disassemble and re-assemble. After watching a number of other videos, your video and your careful explanation of the last critical step with the mainspring assembly was the absolute ticket. Thanks, man. I really appreciate the very fine job you did with this video! Kudos!!! I'll put permanent bookmark on this video.

I stumbled upon this video a few years ago. Since then, I refuse to take my MK III apart until I watch/review this video to make sure I can put it back together again. The first time I took the pistol apart, I couldn't get it back together, so I took it to the LGS and left it with him. He ended up sending it to Ruger to be put back together and charged me $35.00. I decided, I've got to figure this out, I can't afford to pay this clown $35.00 every time the pistol needs cleaning and thanks to this video, I have been able to do it. Thanks for putting the video together.

Wow... 2 hours yesterday and a lot of frustration. Today was a new day, found your video, and two quick tries later it's assembled. AND, I understand now what I was doing wrong. This was really useful and your explanation was the only one that made it clear. Thank you, 8 years after you posted it!

There are lots of Ruger 22/45 Mark III assembly disassembly videos and they seem to work for the guns in those videos, but this is the video that really helped me. It sounds like I made all the same mistakes as you earlier on. Thank you so much for publishing a video that actually works for my gun!

I hadn't used my Mark III in a while and this demo was a great refresher. Easy to break down, re-assembly not so easy, though it's not so bad once you know the pitfalls you've identified. Thanks so much for posting this!

The details provided here were exactly what I needed. When I followed these the gun reassembled like butter! Seriously, I was was so frustrated, before. Now I am not afraid to disaasemble this gun when the times for cleaning! Thanks!

    MrEdgar49,
Excellent video and explanation for reassembly of Ruger Mark III. I purchased my Mark III several years ago and believe I watched your video then as I always disassemble and clean my new guns. Although a bit complicated disassemble/assemble technique, all went well as I followed your instructions.
However, possibly due to the reassembly issue, I found myself using my other 22 cal. handguns for plinking. A few weeks ago I decided to take the Mark III with me to the range. As you noted, it is a "sure shot." I wondered why I had left it in my safe for all of those years.
I then decided to give it a cleaning....thinking I knew how to reassemble. Ouch! I viewed at least 10 "UA-cam" videos on disassembly/assembly and not a single one thoroughly provided the detailed instructions that would work for me. After a few days of setting the gun aside I tried a few "google" searches for "reassembly of Ruger Mark III" and found your video.
I am saving your video address so that I will never have again have to waste time trying to figure out how to assemble my Mark III and will surely be taking the gun to the range on a regular basis.
Thank you for your help and a great video.

I have had this gun for 5 years and still need to watch a video to get the darn thing reassembled. Your video worked better than the instructional video from Ruger. If it was not so much fun to shoot, I would have gotten rid of it years ago.

I truly, truly love you Edgar!!! I watched this vid earlier and put a like on it and subscribed just because of the way you presented the video. Then a watched a couple of others including Ruger's vids on disassembly, cleaning and reassembly. Then I disassembled my gun, cleaned it and began putting it back together. (Yep, I can see the smile on your face). That was this morning. It is now about 8 pm and I worked on it off and on until now when I watched this video again and did everything exactly as you showed it. It's finally back together. It jammed on me every time at the last step. And sure after trying 10 or more times I also managed to wedge the dam thing in there. :) Joy! Thank you sir!! Thank God there are some people who know how to make a good video.

I struggle for about a hour last night using your method. Today I succeeded and what I found is that I stopped rotating the gun when it was upside down, pulled the trigger, and eased the strut down. For whatever reason it didn’t work for me to continue the rotation of the gun until the barrel was pointed upwards. Thanks for the tips. Your video still helped a lot.

I was out at the range with my dad today, and he gave me one of these guns as an early birthday present because he has one and loves it. I put a hundred or so rounds through it and was really impressed by the accuracy. i asked him about how difficult it was to field strip for cleaning and he was like "i've never done it, i've just cleaned it with a few swipes through the barrel". This made me realize it was probably difficult to take apart, but I can't imagine owning a gun I don't know how to break down. Thanks!

Thank you! I bought a Mark I in 1981 and hadn't field stripped it since the late 80's--really needed a good cleaning and oiling!. Had problems figuring out how to get the assembly fitted back up with the receiver, so this helped out a lot. My lesson to myself is to take this apart to clean more often than once every 25 years, in part to remember how to do it!

Thanks so much for this informative vid. I tried following Ruger's directions and got the dreaded mainspring jam. I watched a couple of other videos on the problem and got it back apart, but couldn't get it back together. Your video was simple and easy and the rotation at the end did the trick. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the video. I took mine apart for the first time to clean and the reassembly had me to the point of driving my head through the wall. The trick you have about inserting the magazine then taking it out and rotating the gun to get that last handle lever in did it for me. That's where I was hung up. I've installed Geissele triggers on several rifles and had less difficulty than putting this little 22 back together! AAAAGGGGGHHHH! Lol!

Yep I've been through all of the nightmare jam ups more than once to the point where i would avoid shooting it simply because of a personal rule I've made. If I take a firearm out shooting or hunting it gets cleaned before anything else takes place when i get back home.
No more avoiding that 22 since watching your video what a big help. Your video easily explained not only how to but why you do it. Can't thank you enough. That Ruger and i are going to establish that close bond again.

You have saved me from ripping every hair from my head. I have a Volquartsen Scorpion that I paid a small fortune for. This was my first handgun so I had no experience with the Ruger platform. The firearm came with no manual or takedown instructions whatsoever. It did however have a warning that the warranty would be invalid if it wasn't properly maintained. .Hmmm, let's just think about the ridiculousness of that for a moment. After many months of asking, they put the most piss poor video on their website which I tried to follow but there were so many details left out it is no wonder I spent hours without being able to reassemble the gun so it would function. I only watched yours once and had the firearm back together and in perfect working order. Bless you my friend 😀

Hey guy, thank you very much for an extremely accurate video. Have a Mark 1 that nobody could help with, your video showed me how to do it. Again, thank you.

Well done. My father-in-law hinted that he may give me his Mark III (why I don't know) so it is great to see this video is online.

You know, people will criticize me for this, BUT, for YEARS, I have simply taken the PLASTIC GRIPS off my Mark III and then FLUSH it out with Mineral Spirits. Then gently (low air presure) blow it out, maybe flush it again. Blow it out again. Dirty Mineral Spirits does gather in the Pan I do it over. When nothing but CLEAN solvent comes out, I feel like I am done. I SCRUB the Barrel, then when done, I grease in certain places, like the RAMP etc. So far this has worked FOR ME. My Mark III is stainless I must say. Anyway, one of these days I am sure I will have to Disassemble it and worse put it back together. So, GOOD VIDEO, I am sure it will help me one fo these days, I will Thumbs up the Video.
But, the way I have done it has worked so far. It has gotten "sticky" before, this always (so far) has done the trick. It is fairly quick and works for me. BB

I'm sure it's much better than no cleaning. long as any contact parts are lubricated after shouldn't have any problems.

At about the 4:20 mark you don't want to do that step. When you put the barrel on the hammer is already cocked and to the rear once barrel is on just insert the bolt. You can then skip to about the 5:10 mark and proceed. Great video for those having trouble with there 22/45 just an extra step they can avoid.
