Chop wood, carry water. This is an old Zen proverb. It tells us that life is a continuous flow before and after enlightenment. There is no escaping the formed world we find ourselves in. It doesn't go away after we realize enlightenment. We must embrace the ups and downs of life and ride the waves with grace.
