- The Captain EO Tribute was a show at Epcot. The show originally operated back in the 80's and 90's, but was then replaced by Honey I Shrunk The Audience. When Michael Jackson died, the show was brought back in 2010 and later closed in 2015.

Definitely can't have the full experience without the Kodak preshow. 1987 was around the first time I watched it and probably at least another 15 times over the years... we always rushed over right after the Illumination fireworks for the last showing of the night. Always a great ending to a day at Epcot!!

You should have been there for the ORIGINAL experience!! Lasers from the screen over you, and lasers from the back of the theater hitting the screen! LN2 swamped the audience when the ship crashed. And the theater SHOOK as well during explosions!! It was truly an amazing experience and one that would be awesome should it ever be brought back. I tearfully enjoyed the encore experience, but it was no where near what the original attraction was!! I remember when there would be lines out the door over an hour long to get to see it!!

What's LN2????? Yeah, I remember Michael moonwalking over the audience. There was more 3d over the audience than the post 2009 experience. We just got the rock I think and Disneyland differed from Disneyworld as far as the experience.

"Please silence your cell phones". Now, there's a phrase I DIDN'T hear during any of the times that I have watched "Captain Eo"! This is because I had watched it back in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990 (i.e. years before cell phones became mainstream; back then, cell phones were mostly seen in expensive sports cars like the Ferrari and the Porsche, as well as in luxury cars).
It's time to bring back Walt Disney's Captain EO.

It doesn't look like anything's changed at Epcot since the 80s...it all looks so familiar!!!
I remember walking into that exhibit and standing there watching it! I didn't like that we had to stand, though, lol, but the 3D was really cool! Sigh....I really miss the 70s and 80s...but, it looks like, I could re-experience it with a trip back to Epcot lol
A great part of history
I remembered seeing that as a kid. There was a fog effect when the spaceship was landing, but now in the tribute version, it didn't have that which sucked for me. It was STILL awesome.
I seen it in 86-87, I was 7-8 at the time. One thing I could clearly remember is hating the glasses.

I wish they kept this ride! Disney Shorts Film Festival doesn’t fit in with the area the show is in and its boring as all hell! If I wanted to watch Disney shorts, id watch them on UA-cam. They need to bring back Captain EO!
I was there for the reboot. Waited thru the preshow.. My 8 year old son said he had to pee... Yes, I made him wait in line.... again!!
The James Horner score is brilliant (gives me goosebumps all the time!!) specially at the intro (Walk-in)! Too bad this music has never had a commercial release!

When I took my son to Epcot Center in 1994, they showed this Captain EO which was sensation. Are they still showing this Captain EO at Epcot Center nowadays ?
The 3D version ran from 2010 - 2015. The original ride was closed in the mid-90’s for a Honey, I shrunk the kids ride called “Honey, I shrunk the audience”
I have happy memories of the Captain EO ride! I do not remember such an ugly pink carpet pattern though, haha!
When they brought it back, did they update any of the special effects, or was it exactly the same as it was in 1986? I saw it in 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1993.
It was different. Most of the effects were removed after the show originally closed~ such as the fog, lasers and the star field effect. They did use the in theater effects left over from Honey I Shrunk The Audience, though. Such as the bouncing floor.
@@JakeOrl It's a shame they didn't reinstall the original effects but I guess it would have been very expensive.
Do you have the rest of the intro music from 11:40. I have been searching for a full recording of the song since Captain EO left and yours is the closest from entering the theater until that song ends while guest are loading.

Thank you for sharing. Your recording is the best audio recording of that piece. The bass, sound, and the host did not talk much. I used to hate it when the host talked over my favorite piece of music. That music was tranquil and beautiful new age and soothing. Definitely set the tone for an awesome movie of the 80s and 90s.

A very long time ago cause those are the original jumping fountains. They have since re vamped them and they are similar but not the same
