I restarted playing after 20 years. I don’t have my friends to play with any more. I have been going through my old books and practice. I am glad I found your channel.
Nick Tolman Music, unfortunately my friends aren’t interested in reading on the guitar. I started my buddy on Mel Bay and he just couldn’t wrap his head around associating the notes on the page with the frets on his guitar. It’s funny because when I started reading , I picked it up immediately. But, people don’t realize how complex of a subject it is. This book only covers first position. Once you get into second position it’s a whole new ball game. Another great method is “A Modern Method for Guitar” by William Leavitt.
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful. I just launched a new facebook group for support while working with the Mel Bay series. It's a place to ask questions and get some extra help. Consider joining! facebook.com/groups/melbayguitarsupport
Hi Nick as always great content. Quick question, will the book eventually get to the chords that you mentioned where all 6 strings are plated? If yes, what exercises beyond those in the book will you recommend? Thanks for your comments!!

Ananya P V, I'm glad it was helpful for you! Feel free to check out the rest of the series as well as www.nicktolmanmusic.com for more resources.
It breaks my heart that these videos aren’t more popular. I guess this generation just doesn’t have the motivation that this series requires.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the series! This channel is still new but it’s getting more traffic each day! Feel free to share with your friends!

People are missing so much by not learning this. It's the language of music. They learn a song by numbers and don't even know what they are playing.
Very good to follow
