I saw these guys play one of their first shows way, way, back in the day...it was at the space lounge in Silverlake..lol.i think that was the clubs name...I felt really bad for them cuz the bass players rig took a dump on him..on the first song!!!
i love them so much and this video totally hurts me. i feel the pain in the beauty of where they close their eyes to create what we beyond that dead-timeslot for an ancient festival know they are worth in all their glory.
Autolux is by far in my list of top bands. I mean obviously many many tie for first... but dude. When i got Future Perfect in like end of '03 or whatever... just nonstop listening. At the time, I listend to Arcade Fire's Funeral, Grandaddy's Sumday and Future Perf... every day everyday everyday. So legendary.
she plays with such a fat foot and so in the pocket it's so so so good. i like her balance of discipline and ornamentation, really is the framework for so many of the songs - she knows how to sing and direct traffic with the drums it feels like.
For the love of God, why did it took me so long to fall in love with this band? I mean they are one the coolest-sounding and original out there! Gotta love these eerie guitar parts by Greg Edwards, the crushing bass and These mophdafaking drums. I'm astounded. Great performance.
very cool band. where is sugarless? what is the drummer wearing...? are they from the future? they sound it....this is what you will be wearing in the year 2040
i waited for years to see this band come around and when they came near my town i had wolf alice tix the same night....what are the chances of that....i would much rather see WA tho. and it was awesome.
Saw Autolux, QOTSA and NIN in one night (Ages ago) and it was one of the best experiences I've ever been a part of (I'm primarily a NIN fanboy, lovely bands nonetheless!). I literally had to go outside and catch myself lmfao as I was too stimulated. Autolux is one of my "Drum along to" bands for when I'm out in the garbage, hitting the pig skins. She's got a good groove, simple, effective, hard hitting and can switch it up at a moments notice! ❤❤
I was already enjoying the band's music before I saw this, but can I now here admit that I was immediately sold on "Listen to the Order" because of the way the drummer approached the set and plopped down at the drums in her (ancient) jedi consular robes like she was detouring from a galactic mission?
This show. I was thinking about that pig, Wilbur but this collision of tiny humanoids is like a gift to the art in which they are perfectionist. Great usage of space, tanky tanky.
I think there's a drift towards manipulating noise and other vibes now because so much of the conventional playing technique has been done to death (think of all of the iconic pentatonic riffs in E and A from Led Zeppelin, AC/DC etc). I guess the trick is doing something musical with it and twisting it with other genres.
I think a major difficulty in them playing to a big open-air crowd is that their vocals in particular are fundamentally impossible to sing loudly. Eugene in particular is almost whispering on the record versions of these songs. Don't get me wrong, this is a huge part of why I love Autolux. They are a completely different experience of rock music, in this form it's designed to be an intimate listening experience.
It's sad they won't take him back, in a trio each member is already critical but one where the vocal duties are shared? It's absolutely essential. Actually....I would say Eugene was the main vocalist right? He definitely does more tracks than the other guys.
much of the rackmount gear Greg and Eugene uses is mainly pieces and parts of Greg's old 90's era Failure stuff. The SVT-II that Eugene uses is from the Failure rig. I wonder what ever happened to Greg's limited edition 8x10HPE bass cabinet tho...
Couldn't agree more. It usually becomes such a mission to hype up everyone around me; starting with my girlfriend -_____- but it's happened before where a couple other guys seeing me get down can spark movement. Turning a dead vibe into a positive vibe. Or getting a triple encore from real estate in Austin years ago. I still feel personally responsible. Sucking my own dick rn but I'd be so fucking hyped to be at this show and this small crowd seem to be there for the headliners just passing through ignorant to how fucking good Autolux is.
broh you'r only s'posed to poop like that in the woods. You're the reason public bathrooms are evil and a viscous cycle of people having to poop like this.
SG is highly versatile guitar. I think Jag is too thin and treble heavy for a trio. It works well for Sonic Youth for instance. But Jag does sound cool in Helms Alee. In some ways, it's the amp and guitar combo that really matter.
What do these guys have against shampoo? Who let Carla get dressed all by herself? Elbow wraps and a shaw really highlight her stiff arm technique, or lack there of technique. Caveman no need fingers and wrists to bang drum. (Caveperson to be pc)
underrated band. absolute great musicians and songwriters
Drummer rocks a hell of lot
theyre just amazing
Carla Azar is my favorite female drummer, ALL-TIME
The crowd has no clue what they're witnessing here.
I'm still only gleaning and I have the power of a replay button.
Festivals are just not for them. More intimate venues filled with people that actually know what they are watching suit them much better.

This band is light years ahead their time... Greg has a brilliant musician mind, all members are incredibly talented.
"thank you for standing in front of us".... love it!
yeh cause they're supposed to be doing cartwheels and having orgy sex. Its Chicago, accept the implicit dejection, it doesn't mean they hate it.
What a wrong setting for a band like this!! should be underground and dark .
how is Greg in two of the best bands ever? unreal guitar player

I love how eugine is jumping around rocking out and Carla just wants to leave xD
that's just her usual demeanor on stage, I think she's just focussed.

boards of Canada in the beginning!

Luv Carla Azar, she should hook up with JW3 and for the New White Stripes!!!
That crowd...looks like a high school football game. Typical Lolla. Autolux should play Riot Fest instead, where they'd get some real appreciation!
Here in Argentina we call them "tinchos"
It's funny to see Eugene struggling at singing sometimes xD. This is a solid performance.
Eugene's last performance with them before he left and then getting arrested for cocaine importation.

Alister Dante Mobile zombies.
Sometimes this is a cool way to turn on young people to cool music.
That's the whole point of small bands playing big festivals: introducing their work to a broader audience
Junk for Code came out interesting it's like they missed the cue for the second chorus.
