    I have a 2004 2.0 liter MAZDA 3i with 165 k miles (used car bought recently with 160k miles and just changed the oil the first time). I'm getting a feel for this car. After watching your video, I have to say, my engine's valve cover is almost identical. I have a ton of oil on top of spark plug 4, and 3, 2, 1 are clean. I've been smelling some oil burn recently, and now I know why! I am changing the spark plugs, and now the valve cover gasket - routine maintenance!

    • @AnthonyAwada

      I am glad this video helped you out. Mazda says 6 pound feet of torque, but I dont believe in torque for plastic valve covers. It depends on how worn out of your valve cover is. They are made out of plastic and over time and heat they get brittle, so sometimes the 6 pound feet could break it. That's why I use discretion :).

    • @Automatrix77

      Anthony Awada those plastic clips to take off are by far the hardest part of the job lol. Had to use pliers and even broke a few.

    I'm assuming this is fairly similar to the 2004 Mazda 6 2.3L with the coil pack instead of individual coils.

    • @AnthonyAwada
      @AnthonyAwada  Рік тому

      Yes, exactly the same, but you are leaving wires rather than packs. Make sure to label which wire is for which cylinder when you take them off!

    Would it be wise to swap the coil packs and spark plugs while doing the valve cover gasket? i recently was having trouble with mine hesitating and not wanting to accelerate. After swapping the coil packs and spark plugs. the car ran solid for like 6-8 months than it started showing the same symptoms. My mechanic did advise me the valve cover gasket is leaking. Do you think i need to swap the plugs and packs again?

    The round piece to the left of the oil cap that has a clip attachment is leaking oil around it on my 07 Mazda5. While the cover is off how is that replaced?

    I was planning on doing this and the video was very helpful! I'm just curious: I'm planning on doing this because I've found oil on top and inside cylinder 1 on my 2006 mazda 3. Would this potentially fix that issue?

    • @AnthonyAwada
      @AnthonyAwada  5 років тому

      Hi Kane carr, this procedure will more than likely take care of your oil escaping. Make sure to change the inner and outer gasket.

      @@kanecarr1418 hey, no worries. Clean up the oil that was leaking to ensure that the new gasket isn't leaking as well. Also for the oil in the spark plug area. Try to get as much as you can out by shoving a paper towel and absorbing the oil. If there is some you cannot get to, the take the spark plug out and it will fall into the combustion engine. Mind you, there will be some smoke when you first start up.

      Wesley Bergholm Hi Wesley! No problem, I am sure you can do it!
      In regards to the spark plugs. You can take them out whenever (when the valve cover is on or off). If you do the job while off though, make sure not to contaminate the cams and rest of the head of the engine with debris that could be caused by removing the spark plug.
      Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

      I have a 2008 mazda tribute. The mechanic diagnosis was replacement od valve cover gasket leaking and spark tube full of oil. My question is what type of sensors are near when replacement is being done? My light is now always on and there appears to be a ticking noise and the air conditioner does not work. The valve cove and spark plugs replaces, four wheel alignment, transmission service, replaced #3 motor replaced , rear shocks leaking.
      I originally complained about shaking at stand still and breaking. After work was completed, the sensors light remained on. The air conditioner stop cooling and the braking noise continued. I want to be better informed about the work and understand if the work done is complete

    What's the difference of valve and head gasket?

    • @AnthonyAwada
      @AnthonyAwada  Рік тому +1

      Hi Sergio, valve cover gasket, per it's name is a cover that ensures that the oil splashing from the camshafts do not go outside the engine. It's an easy part to change and inexpensive for the most part. The head gasket is in between the head of the engine (where your valves, camshaft, etc) and the block of the engine (where your pistons, crankshaft, etc) are house. It ensures a good seal between the head and block. To ensure no exhaust gases, coolant, and oil don't mix. It is an expensive job and part. Which requires the removal of the head, resurfacing, and potentially new valves, and new valves being lapped.

  • @jlyutiup

    Hi Anthony,
    I have a leak near the sensor which is located on the furthest left side of the spark plug. My question is, do you need to remove the whole engine cover to replace that seal or can you just replace it by taking out the sensor? Btw, what sensor do you call that left side sensor?

    • @AnthonyAwada
      @AnthonyAwada  Рік тому

      Hi! I assume you are referring to the VVT solenoid. You can do the whole job without removing the valve cover. In my many years of working on Mazdas, I never had one leak from there. Check to ensure no cracks in the cover.

    I'm confused... we have a 2009 Mazda 6 with a 4cyl engine, and every document source I can find states the vehicle should have a "2.5L" engine, but under the hood... the engine in place is "this engine", which you claim to be a "2.3L". What gives...?
