    7:07 is the moment. Alekseenko touches a piece and he realizes it's a blunder but somehow managed to draw!
    Edit: My guess is that Alekseenko probably wanted to move Ng3 to Nf5 and then to Nd6 to block the open d-file. But moving that Knight takes away the protection of the e4 pawn. Since he touched that Knight and since it is a touch-play rule, he moved Ng3 to Ne2 and lost the pawn in the centre. The balance tilted immediately in Black's favor. You can see the evaluation (right above the display board) changes from = (-0.21 meaning the position is equal and slightly favorable to Black) to -5 points (highly favorable to Black). However, Alekseenko managed to draw and it is not an easy feat against Magnus!

    Some comments say that it is not a draw but after the h5 move of the pawn we have the first occurrence and the following sequence
    10:29/10:31 h5 (1st occurrence) Rc3
    10:35/10:42 Kh2 Rc2
    10:43/10:44 Kg3 (2nd occurrence) Rc3
    10:45/10:47 Kh2 Rc2
    the next move is not played but with white Kg3 there would be a 3rd occurrence and thus it is a draw.
    Because it goes so fast, it is a bit difficult to rewind and check what happened, but it is a clear draw.

    • @foxware5587
      @foxware5587 2 роки тому

      I agree that it's a draw. But for many people the word 'repetition' is confusing, because it comes from 'repeat'. Some people interpret the first repetition of a position as the first re-occurrence of a position, which is the second occurrence. The rule says that you can claim a draw at the third occurrence of a position, which in this interpretation is the second repetition.

    • @Tynvs

      Agreed. Kirill mistakenly assumed it was the third repetition because he overlooked the b-pawn movement, and with only seconds left and full focus on calculation Magnus probably just didn't notice or decided it wasn't worth fighting. He spent quite a while before choosing to repeat the rook check, which means that to that point he hadn't found a better way to continue.

    Black had 3 passers, 2 of them were connected, to rush with b-pawn was huge mistake. He had to be patient and to coordinate his pawn movements. Of course there was time trouble, they had to play using familiar patterns from their training and instincts rather than exact calculations, but Carlsen chose just wrong plan .
