  • From One Foot in the Past. Jools Holland visits Portmeirion in Wales, which is perhaps better known as the location of the 1960s TV-series The Prisoner. However, it was actually build by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis as an architectural demonstration: the village enhancing the surroundings, rather than surplanting them. Part of the One Foot in the Past, dating from 1994.

Fitting that Portmeirion became a famous film set given that it was designed like one: mostly facades and illusions. Wonderful place, I visited when I was about ten years old and must go back one day. Has to be part of a holiday though as an awkward place for a day trip from home unless you are lucky enough to live nearby.

I remember watching this way back in the 90's, just found it again - did he ever get the studio walls completed?? I MUST know!

I remember Jools co-hosting a musical show with jazz legend David Sandborn in the US for 2 years. It was called Micellob presents Sunday Night aka Music Night.

I often wonder how many days filming were interrupted by rain, as in the Prisoner the sun is always shining... something not that common in North Wales!

oh I've had many sunny times in North Wales but it did start pouring when I was last at Portmeirion (just as we were leaving)
