What a nice video Paul! Wow! Also my favorite part of this video is oddly your music choices and songs from all your other former videos in this video! I love it from 6:02 the song you used when you flew with QATAR Airways in the A350-1000 Q-Suite from Doha to Canberra to 7:24 when you took the Lufthansa 747-8 in First Class to 8:15 with the music you used on your Australian adventure on QANTAS 737-800 Perth to Adelaide in Economy to 9:11 with the music you used on Hawaiian Airlines First Class on the A330-300 to 11:52 the song which I’ve heard before on Jeb Brooks recent Delta A321neo flight in First Class from BOS-SFO to 14:48 the song you used on your FINAL KLM 747-400 flight to 16:13 the song you used in Aeromexico Business class on their B787 Dreamliner from Mexico City to Sau Paulo Brazil 🇧🇷 to 18:27 a song that Dennis Bunnik recently used when he flew AF La Première First Class from CDG-SIN 🇸🇬 Finally at 19:49 I’d call that the “Embraer Entourage” Also have you ever flown on one of KLM’s new Embraer E190-E2 jets? I’d love to see a review of that! 😊🎉 Also I cannot wait to fly KLM someday soon!
Shame you felt that KLM under performed. I had the pleasure of flying in seat 9A last month from AMS to SFO and the whole experience was top notch! As you mentioned, maybe the food is better on flights out of their home base.
You will be flabbergasted once you fly a premium airline like singapore, qatar, jal, eva air, emirates ect. The western airlines are falling really hard with comfort and service ect. Cheers 🙏
But you pay far more on those airlines. For example when I went to RSA, business class with Emirates was twice the price of KLM, whilst maybe it is better it wasn't worth £2k more to fly with Emirates. Plus none of those you quote are of use to travel to South Americaz where I normally travel to@@rob99043
I am from Brazil my favourite scene to fly over is the Amazon rainforest is just so beautiful but I rarely get to see it since 99% of flights to Brazil are at night. Another place I really love to see is Iguassu Falls, I used to live in Foz do Iguaçu so every time I took a flight back home I had a chance to see it and is just magical to see it from an airplane window.
So glad to see that you flew out of my homebase airport, SFO! You're right --- you probably should have taken Air France's 777 instead of KLM's 787-10. Despite that, really enjoyed your video (and all your other videos as well). Thanks for all you do, Paul!
Thank you for this review. I've been on the fence about flying KLM (business class). Your video helps me. BTW, I too had a lie flat seat on AF 777-300 ER that kept moving on its own. Flight attendants had to rescue me several times.
Because it's common in the US for the domestic airlines to own/long-term-lease blocks of gates at larger airports (not just the legacies: the likes of Southwest and JetBlue do this as well) which they serve from multiple other airports many times a day, those airports will use the "international terminal" for domestic services by airlines which don't run as many flights and aren't renting a dedicated gate (because most of the international flights are fairly limited in frequency). Because the US doesn't have exit passport control, this works out; combined with preclearance, you have situations like Boston's where Allegiant, Frontier, and Hawaiian use terminal E alongside the foreign airlines, but WestJet is in terminal A, Air Canada is in B, and Aer Lingus is in C. Since those flights are from preclearance airports, the US considers them domestic arrivals, so you come off the jetbridge into the departure area. TAP also departs from C, even though their arrivals are in E.
Like the new ‘West Gates’ expansion at LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal. You have Hawaiian Airlines, Allegiant Airlines using gates there for domestic operations since there was opening after the new terminal open during the pandemic when many international carriers hadn’t resume full operations and both airlines wanted to expand their operations at the airport. Also you will see American, Delta, and United all using the ‘West Gates’ and the main Tom Bradley international terminal for select domestic operations when the terminal is less busy early in the morning to fly their wide bodies to the East coast like New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, and Miami etc. Those wide bodies usually arrive from South Pacific and latin America and then reloaded for continental US day time flight and then they loaded again for Trans oceanic flights overnight.
My favorite flyover scenery is the Andes mountain range. I was in awe of the size of that range-not just the obviously lengthy north to south dimension, but the vast east to west breadth, which seemed endless. The view ranges from thick jungle to bald rocky peaks capped with glaciers. Magnificent!
Sorry to hear your report. I recently flew trans-Atlantic with Air France and was quite disappointed. Last month I flew KLM and can only say that their Business Class service was superb. As a matter of fact the KLM service restored my faith in the travel business.
Reminds me of the Airplane movie or maybe the second one, it’s not the news that the flight might crash that upsets the passengers and starts a mini-riot, it’s “oh, we’re also out of coffee.”
Dear Paul: My first time commenting despite having been a sub for about 4 years. To cut to the chase, I sincerely appreciate your honest review of this KLM catastrophe. But you did it very well. Keep posting the successes as well as the failures. Blessed travels Me
Thank you for yet a wonderful comprehensive review, Paul! I was kind of surprised about your observations on the -9 vs -10 seats, though. The button placement on the -9 seats are far more inferior than on the -10 imho, because you tend to hit them with your elbow from time to time. A thing that generally doesn’t happen with the -10 version. Do have to agree on the storage observations - almost non-existent on the -10.
I left my chocolate on the plane. Funnily enough, I left my wallet on one too, but thanks to cabin crew, it was waiting for me on my connecting flight through DBX. Great video.
I suspect I've had better food in economy. I've always assumed business class prices = guaranteed quality but I'm starting to question that now! Appreciate the avoidance of drama.

Sorry your KLM flight wasn't up to scratch. I hope you review Air Tahiti Nui soon, I flew them last year and found them a lot of fun. Personally, I find they have the best livery, and their interior is even better. It's like you have arrived in Tahiti as soon as you get on board. Plus, the best perk of flying Air Tahiti Nui is that you fly to Tahiti.
I so enjoy your vids so much and I got my tote just in time as I used to when I had to get rushed to hospital as I keep it packed for that. Glad you had a awesome flight !!
Great vlog as always! My father worked with airline catering for over 20 yrs. He said that people complain about the food if they get it or not. So you were on a road to nowhere… How about the Brazil basin? Keep up the good work. KLM is all about Genever, the father of Gin. Be safe!
I’ve flown from California to Teesside a few times as Teesside is my home airport ! We nearly lost it because of Peel and also the local Labour council wanting to run it into the ground, sell it and build houses on it. Thank God Ben Houchen the Tees Valley Mayor stepped in and saved it. It’s a fabulous airport and no doubt your next video will show Teesside is the first airport in U.K. where you don’t have to worry about taking anything out of your bags at security! Keep the videos coming and thanks for using Teesside and also spelling it correctly !! UTB !
Hi Paul we have done this route many times and also Marseilles we have only ever had one delay in all the yrs of doing it and it certainly is a much more relaxed way to go. However we didn’t know you can book the food though. Great video
Great video, as always. Back in September 2021, KLM announced they were expanding their no-meat-or-fish catering to long-haul flights. It looks like this never happened.
I love your videos and reviews, they are pretty helpful. I'm from California but live in the UK & I recently flew back from SFO with BA. You mentioned the Rockies mountains but then showed Washoe Lake, NV. That is the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California/Nevada, is that the mistake? LOL!
I hope at some point flying into Amsterdam you can go to Norwich to get back to 🇬🇧. It’s a very cool tiny airport and you can just hop on the bus to the station, and get on a lovely 745 FLIRT to Liverpool Street! Would be cool to see that one day. Anyway, fabulous video as always Paul.
I flew on KLM business class in March 2023. The crew was amazing, and thats where the "+" ended. The Toronto KLM lounge is nothing compared to KLM's hub at AMS. Thought the food onboard tasted good, the only problem was, the appetizer tasted better than the main. The main was some sort of beef but we only had 4 tiny little slices. Last disappointment, the biggest of all, the flight was originally scheduled for 787-10 with private lie flat seat. I checked in 24 hours in advance but the day I woke up, they switched the plane to a 777 with 2-2-2 configuration in business! Imagine paying all that cash and got such a downgrade on a red eye flight!
Spot on description of the KLM product in recent times. I do love the joyous crews, mostly on outbound flights. But catering wise they really underperform, so I choose AF or DL when I can.
If you fly from Amsterdam their catering is not that bad to be honest. I flew in their new premium economy and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality in that alone compared to their business class. I do admit AF is better when flying out of CDG. But, I have had pleasant meals in their business class from AMS (from other airports, not so much).
We need to book flights from Calgary to Amsterdam around September, was going to book KLM, something different for us. Maybe not now, any options,? You can suggest, we always use Air Canada Westjet
I once had a broken seat that wouldn't stay in the locked and upright position on a flight between Dallas and Tulsa. A lot of turbulence and I had to somehow not lean back in the seat for fear it would collapse.
Last year I flew KLM and A.F. Business class on my regular long haul (Not to the USA) The former was fine, very good service and food, however A.F. was considerably better all round.
Great video as always. As a resident of Amterdam having KLM as my home airline I'm sorry the experience was so disappointing. One remark: the English translation of the Dutch word "Polder" is actually Polder, which is a diked area of reclaimed (from water) land. So the "Polderbaan" is the Polder Runway.
Sad to this wasn't a great flight. I usually hear good things about KLM. Sad also that the 787-10 under performed. But that was a choice by the airline to install a bad seat and not the plane itself. Also I think catering from SFO might be to blame (partially) for the bad food presentation and taste. Anyways, safe flying on your next trip, mate!
Hey Paul, bumped and spoke briefly at IST fast track security if you remember , in March, you said you were coming to India shortly , for the Akasa air (ex Jet airways) Max, still awaiting that video!
Ahhhgood old gate D6, used to do the saudi to Norwich run for a few years. Miss flying on the little 175s. I once clocked more time on the ground than in the air!
I completely agree here. If you can avoid the 777 please do so. The 787 is so much better since you don't have a neighbour and there's way more legroom in the foot well.
Sorry about my former home country's airline ...... Seat and eat no good ! Hmmmmm ... I remember flying Auckland to Argentina on a QF 744 flight in 1997. Crossing the Andes and seeing the snowy mountain tops so high, it felt magical ! In a few weeks am flying Austrian via Vienna to BKK and swiss via Zurich nack, bot premium economy. And Thai economy bkk-dps. Really looking forward! 😊
Ironically I flew this exact very flight last year in the summer while on my way back to India in economy. At least there was no document check for me at that time, so boarding was smooth. Flight to Amsterdam was very good, but my flight to Delhi was absolutely horrible, especially the food. Idk why. Completely the opposite experience to my earlier. Both of my flights were aboard 777-200ERs. Genuinely, I liked KLM especially because transit at AMS was very smooth along with decent cabin for economy and very supportive crew.
Hello Paul, Enjoyable (to watch!) video, although the flight experience didn't look great. The meals looked dreadful. I was wondering what kind of watch you wear? I am sorry if you have said it before! I have been watching your video's for a long time. I know you are a bit of a nervous flier (like me) and wonder if doing something active (i.e filming) helps you take your mind off it? Really loved the scenery and the beautiful clouds :-) Thank you for another informative video :-)
Thanks for the insight into the differences between their -9 and -10 business class seat. And I was thinking it would have been better. Also I don’t appreciate that KLM gives a choice between cheese OR cake for deserts. AF has a better product and they should standardise them both. I once asked on KLM if I could have both and told I’d have to wait until the end. Crikey for the sake of less than a couple of quids worth of cheese compared to what I paid for the ticket.
This product is worse than its older cousin on the -9, and considerably worse overall than even its sister airline. Many far better options for going from SFO to Europe; this is a flight review video, so I will point out when stuff is either just bad, or just less good than the very many alternatives!
@@Paul_Lucas I get your point and agree that it’s “worse” (I’d say less good) than the -9, but still not something to avoid. I’ve flown both planes quite a few times in C-class, I would avoid a 2-2-2 config! :)
A year ago we flew KLM from LAX to NCL with the same equipment, but not in business. Everything was great, especially the cabin crew. I agree about the “ bus station” feeling for the short haul but it just gets into the bad visuals for when you get to NCL 😩, those cramped hallways downstairs… horrible and depressing.
Popcorn waiting for the comments in the response to the clip of the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland compared to what I guess you wanted to be the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle 😂. Great to see Teesside get a mention Edit: I saw that! clearly the intentional mistake
I flew from AMS to SFO in 2018 on a 747 and the food was perfect in premium eco. On the way back it was less desirable. Perhaps it is just from US to AMS?
Just did AMS to Canada on the 787-9 and back on the 10. Much prefer that little cubby with a door on the 9 and hate that there's a tendency to get rid of personal air vents these days. When I'm spending that long in a metal tube, I'd like some air movement, please. Didn't use that shelf under the screen at all. Food ex-AMS was surprisingly tasty. The main coming back was bland. Free messaging on WiFi worked well outbound, but it never seemed to connect coming back. Pretty comfy in both seats, but I'm not someone for whom legroom is a problem! I accidentally hit the 787-9 buttons more often though 😅 Thankfully flights on time and baggage made it, crew nice etc. I'm basically there for not having to use CDG, and for the houses. Obsessed.
It looks like the food isn’t the only issue with the KLM menu. They have two typos under breakfast (12:51) where they list “cocunut chia oameal”. That doesn’t sound appetizing.
The seat buttons are capacitive. I saw your headphone on top of the button array which may be the cause of the gohst movements. I had the same last week in seat 2D but the crew couldn't fix it. I was promised 20.000 miles in compensation but haven't got them yet.
I flew klm from Cardiff to the Middle East every 6 weeks from 2001 to 2015 and it was great, then one trip they expected me to sleep on the floor of the airport for 24 hrs due to weather delays as all hotels were full. I tried to sleep on the seats in McDonald’s but was kicked out, I was fuming, I later complained and received nothing as compensation. I told all my work colleagues and many stopped using them. Emirates were winners in the end 😃😃
This interested my wife and I as we are flying on KLM from Latin America via Amsterdam to a UK regional airport in C. The piece my wife seemed to enjoy the most was you using your sponsors product… but you never know she may buy one. A little in KLMs defense they have some pretty reasonable C class fares out of Latin America and their connections into the UK are far better than the competition, mainly Iberia. Getting to the UK, now British use the Iberia flights out of the region is more difficult and connecting through the USA is a general hassle in particular for my wife who has a passport from a LATAM country. It would be good to see you in the region. Most of the regional airlines are struggling and service is disappearing in a wave of hybrid airline models. Understanding why KLM looks like a market leading product, if you live in the region, might tell a different story.
Hey Paul love the videos, me and the wife really enjoy your train rides, we have booked Tui flights to Melbourne Florida flying premium, I know you've done the Tui Premium but have you got any plans to do an updated video showing the experience? We're also keen to see the improvements made at Melbourne as not many people have done videos on it, and the ones that have, just kind of do a quick view.
Lot of fond memories of KLM out of Teesside. Being from the area but living in Dubai in the late 90's/early 2000's KLM out it Teesside was the go to until Emirates started flying out of Newcastle.
Best part of the video was at 19:49 when the ramper expertly curls the cone across the ramp; he should have been in the Winter Olympics.

Your regional flight meal looked better than the long haul flight
Business class meals are always better than the economy ones on the European routes.

I checked in 24 hours in advance but the day I woke up, they switched the plane to a 777 with 2-2-2 configuration in business! Imagine paying all that cash and got such a downgrade on a red eye flight!
Which route this happen on? Trying to avoid if depart from toronto
this applies to a lot of the north american route. Pretty much the 787-10 could be swapped to a 787-9 or 777 anytime@@HeyDien
Coming from Amsterdam is not bad. Plus the lounge and ease of access through security is great if you have priority boarding business class.
@@JeanClaudeCOCOI think the catering from most airlines’ home bases is usually better than from an outstation yes.
klm is just peasantfood mostly. meat n potatoes.... its getting kinda old. But the crews are always fantastic.
JetBlue is going to start service to Amsterdam. Mint business class is terrific.
Grew up on KLM Business Class in 80s/90s, as we live din Egypt. Flying in AirUK F27s and F50s from Norwich via Amsterdam to Cairo.
Yes, F9 uses the International terminal. Remember, B6 used to use the International terminal as well.
What you showed as the 787-9 air vents were in fact lights. I assume that was the intentional error?
Ahhhgood old gate D6, used to do the saudi to Norwich run for a few years. Miss flying on the little 175s. I once clocked more time on the ground than in the air!
I SAW THAT! You called the Sierra Nevadas the Rockies! :D
I completely agree here. If you can avoid the 777 please do so. The 787 is so much better since you don't have a neighbour and there's way more legroom in the foot well.
Telling people to avoid an airline because your seat broke...smh
Making a comment without watching the video…smh
Did they serve the dinner salad with breakfast and breakfast with dinner?
Air France should fully intergrate KLM into their operation. KLM as a brand needs to go away.
Nice review. Wish I experience Ethiad!
KLM Is My Favorite Airlines In Europe,I Havent Experience B787-10 Yet.Great Trip Report
I’m so sorry you had this experience. Thumbnails speak a thousand words.
Teesside is my local airport - love it!
I didn't realize that the 787 could takeoff from the 1's at SFO. Usually widebodies depart 28 R/L.
Well it all depends on the prevailing wind.
Well “avoid” is a bit extreme, it all looks quite okay… you’re getting a bit negative - I always liked your positivity!
I fly their 787 10 and 9, and prefer their 10 which is much better for couples. Food and service are fine. He just had a bad flight.
Great stuff. Didn’t see you tap the aircraft to Teeside. The mistake you mentioned? Keith
I remember flying into Teesside from Heathrow when I was visiting family in England.
I also had this experience flying from Houston to Amsterdam. Luckily they offered a different seat.
Teeside are trying to grow Paul, hope they get some Canary Islands for winter, no news yet, we live in hope.
Who else here wants to give Paul a big bear hug? Like if you do!
Thanks for the video Mate
The G on boarding was missing.. Was it that?
Popcorn waiting for the comments in the response to the clip of the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland compared to what I guess you wanted to be the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle 😂. Great to see Teesside get a mention
Edit: I saw that! clearly the intentional mistake
I accidentally hit the 787-9 buttons more often though 😅
Thankfully flights on time and baggage made it, crew nice etc. I'm basically there for not having to use CDG, and for the houses. Obsessed.
If you went AF would you have still picked Teeside?
Fantastic trip report Paul!
It looks like the food isn’t the only issue with the KLM menu. They have two typos under breakfast (12:51) where they list “cocunut chia oameal”. That doesn’t sound appetizing.
Not gin, Genever. Sometime when you've got time in Amsterdam, do the tour of House of Bols.
I hope that KLM management take heart to your Business Class experience. The food looked ghastly. They are much better on short to medium haul routes.
I saw that! The deliberate mistake is obviously declaring Heineken to be delicious!
Got to say I love that track in the background at 21:30 - a funky remix of Sky Chase Zone from Sonic 2! ua-cam.com/video/ABojRNpMXwc/v-deo.html
I flew with KLM in March and I found it to be excellent, food was great and the seat was really comfy.
I've never been to Fokker Farm, but I've passed Wankdorf many times 😁
The Embraer Enclave is my favourite to replace the Fokker Farm.
Lot of fond memories of KLM out of Teesside. Being from the area but living in Dubai in the late 90's/early 2000's KLM out it Teesside was the go to until Emirates started flying out of Newcastle.
It's still surely prefferable to flying in their 2-2-2 business class layout?
I know you bought the ticket without cash and you said flights to London where not available, so how did you get back to London???? Car, train???
