- Today, December 20, 2021, is Alan Parson's 73rd birthday. That is why we publish his great composition 'Old And Wise' today.
Alan Parsons (London, 20 December 1948) is a British composer, musician and producer. He is known as a producer of, among others, Pink Floyd ('Dark side of the moon') and worked at the famous Abbey Road Studios.
He later formed the band The Alan Parsons Project with Eric Woolfson in the 1970s. With many (more and less) known studio musicians, this co-creation made very polished concept albums. Best known are the single "The Turn of a Friendly Card" (sung by Chris Rainbow) and "Old and Wise" sung by ex-Zombies singer Colin Blunstone.
This single has been in the Top 2000 in the Netherlands from the first edition of this list. This years position is: no 80.
Colin Edward Michael Blunstone (born 24 June 1945) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Blunstone came to prominence in the mid 1960s as the lead singer of the English rock band the Zombies, which released four singles that entered the Top 75 charts in the United States during the 1960s, including "She's Not There", "Tell Her No", "She's Coming Home", and "Time of the Season". Blunstone began his solo career in 1969, releasing three singles under a pseudonym of Neil MacArthur. Since then, he has released ten studio albums and one live album under his real name. His solo hits include "She's Not There", "Say You Don't Mind", "I Don't Believe in Miracles", "How Could We Dare to Be Wrong", "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted", and "The Tracks of My Tears". In 2019, Blunstone was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of The Zombies.
He is also known for his participation on various albums with the Alan Parsons Project, as he sang their song "Old and Wise" which became famous with Blunstone's vocals.
This performance by Colin Blunstone was broadcast in the TROS tv program 'Belfleur' on October 10, 1991.

This is so touching. Blunstone's voice is THE VOICE of this song. He sings it with a breathy, soft quality that is haunting and sad, yet speaks of a life well-led. Wonderfully written by Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson, the words are so poignant, especially to anyone who has lost an "old and wise" loved one, like a parent.

I agree - I was just doing a comparison between Blunstone in this live video [not quite the studio version but still wonderful] vs. PJ Olsson. Olsson gives a solid effort but..... Blunstone is, as you say, THE VOICE for this song - the ethereal quality of the voice matches the lyrics.
Woolfson's guide vocal is the ultimate version. Not sure why he wasn't on the released track.
The warmth of Colin's voice is unbelievable. My wife also loved the song and I had it played at her funeral. Still moves me to tears.

While everyone was celebrating the title cut of the "Eye In The Sky" album, it was this song that captured my attention. So great to finally see a performance that included some of the dramatic instrumental ending.

It's a big song. The way he is singing here doesn't make it look like one, but it still is. A lot of people who aren't thinking would stop watching pretty soon. It's one of my favorite songs of all time...and this is also a very good version of it. I didn't know he was in the Zombies. I wish he would have sung this in the AP concert I went to a few months ago. The singer they had was fine. This was the guy I wanted to hear though.

Colin Blunstone has one of those once-in-a-generation voices that just cut right through you! “I Don’t Believe In Miracles” is my favourite solo Blunstone, but this is right up there too! “Odyssey And Oracle” tho’…that’s the killer!
