David. First of all this is not a SUV, it is a utility wagon, a 4WD made to be used and abused and mostly to be driven on unpaved roads. A SUV is a highway oriented 4WD vehicle like the 4Runner, Xterra, Bronco, etc. The old Defender used to be a utility wagon, the new Defender it is now a SUV, needless to say these are also very capable off road vehicles. The 70 series L.C. use it’s mostly industrial and agricultural, and of course also favorite among Overlanders in other countries around the world for the basic cabin set up and it’s reliability and durability. It is not that comfortable vehicle just be driven on highways or paved roads. I don’t think this vehicle will be really appreciated for what it is here in North America, except for a handful of people. Most consumers in North America like 4WD vehicles that look tough on the outside but luxurious and a plethora of electronics in the inside and that’s exactly what we are getting here with the new Land Cruiser….. A Land Cruiser for the North American Market!
I cannot get on board with that new headlight. A standard 7" round would have been cleaner and more serviceable down the road. I still think that Toyota missed an opportunity to bring the 70 up to date by joining the 250 body to the 70 chassis.
I like the wheels. Black on black on black on black is always too much for me. The wheels remind me of the 90s JDM 4WD wheels from Bridgestone and SSR.
I like the 70s. We must however press Toyota to improve the vehicle. The rear wheel track is still narrower than the front. With the impending demise of the V8 diesel, we need a large capacity diesel, with an auto option…….not just a small 2.8L four cylinder. I own a V8…regards from Australia
Interesting that Toyota wouldn't bring the 70 Series to SUV crazy North America, especially since the roads here are more suitable for such a large vehicle than the roads in Japan! I bet it has something to do with emissions, though.
@@sammyt3514 You could be correct, but the 70 Series is really old. I doubt incremental improvements its had over the years could make it meet contemporary crash safety standards.

And it's not like they're charging less money for this outdated production vehicle...
Just read an article that the chicken tax combine with diesel prevent it selling here . That being said this is considered a light vehicle..how much does this weight and they kept this massive vehicle light ?!
