AB - Awesome video!! I do my greens in a crock pot on low overnight! Same ingredients you used and they are always a hit at the dinner table!! Smoked turkey legs are the bomb for collard greens!! I grew up in the south and mom & grandma always used pork (fatback, ham hocks, etc).
House clean, nails clean, and good food. This man is black excellence!
Thank you for the smile :) Enjoy!
Yes mykind of a Man!!!
I agree good cooking 🖤 excellence (sista 😘 you brotha)

As a newly single man, and the son of an amazing southern cook who passed away before I could learn some of her cooking techniques, but I'm so happy I found Cookin and Grillin with AB! Its the sensitive dishes I'm learning the most from you. Like REAL collard greens, black eye peas, southern cabbage and sausage. And the two most critical dishes among black people - Potato Salad and Macaroni & Cheese!! But with your help, I know I'm gonna get there! You the man AB!!
My husband made it clear that he wanted collards and dressing for thanksgiving. I’ve made collards twice in my life because I’ve been blessed to have a mother and grandmother that cooked them. Im eager to impress my husband and Your meals have not failed me yet. I will be following your recipe. I’m going to add some Cajun seasoning because he loves that. Thanks you!!!
This man is responsible for my last Thanksgiving and Christmas cooking! Thanks brother!
I’m glad I seen this comment I’m responsible for thanking dinner this year and I want to fold the best recipes
Did everything turn out good?
Mine too ❤
I agree! Lol , I used his yams recipe had my kids going crazy and there were NO left overs
The only UA-camr that I don’t fast forward through and actually enjoy the talking 😂
That's what's up! Thanks 👏💯👊
Ikr! Fast forwarding AB’s channel feels unnaturally wrong 😂
Facts 👏🏾👏🏾
I made these for Christmas exactly how you did it. and I swear my husband has fallin in love with me even more 😂😂 I’m definitely sticking to this recipe!!!
he's having an affair
My husband ate these at a local restaurant and begged me to make them, so here I am taking notes!😂
I’m back a year later getting ready for Christmas 😂❤
Good for him. If my wife knew how to cook I would love her more too. I had to watch this video so I can cook the greens I grew smh
I cooked your greens last thanksgiving and my family loved them. I’m cooking them again.
Who doesn't LOVE A MAN WHO COOKS. YOU CAN ENTER MY KITCHEN ANYTIME.
Thank you Norma :)
Nice wedding ring. Your wife is lucky!
Hey cuz, me too!
Amen
Smokin & Grillin & Thirst Trappin wit AB!!!!
Im 22 and never learned how to really cook. I be watching your videos and cooking along with you, trynna learn some thangs 😂 like a uncle teaching me how to cook. Hey unc!
This is exactly how my grandmother taught me to cook greens except for discarding the stems we love those they get real tender when you simmer greens low and slow and they hold a lot of valuable nutrients plus my grandma always used a mixture of mustards collards turnips and spinach and ham hocks with turkey neck and a whole lotta onion and garlic. I just use smoked turkey drums instead of ham hocks and turkey neck these days and it’s equally as good 😊
And saving those big stems is nice for making home broth
Thank you because my Granddad was a 'farmer' and most of his kids raised their kids on the land and I don't remember my Aunt ever 'deveining' her Collards. The 'stems' soften and eat like 'Rutabagas'. Or Turnips.
I thought it was just me. I loveee the stems when they get tender. 😩
Exactly Ashley, my mom used to use the salt meat with the titty on it, of course I just use smoked turkey now, however I don’t use the chicken stock because that’s a lot of additional sodium and it’s not needed with the smoked turkey the flavor of the greens is gonna take on that smoke turkey, that backdrop flavor, also I don’t use the pepper flakes (though you surely can) I use a real jalapeño (Again always adding the nutrients when possible) and I like to cut it up kind of small or you can drop it in.
I do that for my beans and sometimes my greens and the way he washes them, we wash ours from sink to sink and we don’t use the feel fingertip method, we make sure that they’re clean…by draining the water slowly after you cleared the sink, feel the bottom of the sink, if it’s clean and squeaky so are the greens, if it has dirt and grit in the bottom of the sink, your greens🥬 does as well…that process usually takes somewhere between 3 to 5 rinses from sink to sink, depending on where you got the greens and were they planted or did you purchase those from the store, but also when we pick them in the kitchen..we’re looking for 🐞 bugs and 🐛 worms on them, so we actually picked them in the kitchen, when you are breaking down that steam a little bit… but I’m with you, for the most part, we roll them and cut them and keep the stem and cook those too, because that’s where the lifeline of the nutrients are.
Ooh I'm mixing my greens too! Love to know there are elders who do this
I don't want nothing for Christmas but a man that can cook!😄
The homie keeps his word. Somebody requested these,he said he'd do it and he did👍🏽
Look delicious AB😋
I know right super easy a great recipe thank you
I APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO THANK YOU BROTHER AB
You and your wife have a clean kitchen and greens look delish. Pamela in Detroit

Hi AB my name is Barbara I love watching you, you cook greens like me, the old fashion way, I like how easy you make it real simple, your kitchen is so clean, also I love your cookwear, keep up the good work you are a beast in the kitchen, do some Mac and cheese.
You and the wife need help eating them greens? 😂👍AWESOME video thanks for sharing❤happy thanksgiving 2020....Stay blessed🙏🙏
The stems gives us nutrients. They will get tender as you cook. Keep some of them stems in your diet!!💯❤
Yes! I kept mine in♥️
@@ashleymay4280What do they taste like?
This is a got to try! My wife cannot eat pork, the common meat for greens, so she will love this. A big like. I’m sure we will watch this video many times. So will others allergic to pork!!!!!!!
Thats exactly how i cook my greens. But I grip and rip those leaves off the stem. Im too impatient to cut. Nice knifework tho. But that recipe is da best!!! Had people eating greens that dont eat greens!
I manhandle my greens too. 😂
I do it the same way
That's how we do them in Northeast Louisiana! Rip that stem right out of there! That's too much work! Love your videos AB!!
I tear mine too 😆
I'm with all of y'all. 🤗☺🌈🎶
This is how my mom taught me to cook mine. It's amazing how southern folks all have the same recipes and none of them from a book ❤️ haha!
I think this is one of the best recipes for cooking collard greens I have watched and yes this is the way to do it right, thank you for getting it out there,.
I can eat just about anything thus guy cooks.💯💯💯
I love the smoked Turkey in the greens
That's the best thing to pair it with.
I mix mine: one each of collard, mustard, turnip, and kale.
I put smoked pig tails in mine also!
Hi I would like to cook these but didn’t know that I can mix all those different greens together I’m going to have to try it , thank you
@@soniaolaguez3399 a lot of the Black people i know mix theirs. Hope yours turn out delicious.
I literally reached out when he leaned the plate towards camera! Yummy!
My go to channel for all recipes 😊
I boil the turkey in chicken stock for a while until it's super tender and add apple cider vinegar and butter to the pot. I use all the same ingredients you use and some chili flakes. I like that slight lip tingle when I'm eating greens. Your recipes all look amazing!
I remember when i switched from ham shanks to smoked turkey YEARS back when everyone was buying up the shanks. Best decision ever. Looks good my brother
Yep! I see you already know. I think I'm going to smoke my own next year.
@@SmokinandGrillinwithAB might as well. Tastes better, you know whats in it, and is cheaper! I would say I would send you some but I'll already have a smoker full of birds next week lol
I'm sure I don't have to tell you smoked turkey good for beans, anything in place of ham.
@@kevinkane5911 I 100% agree. Although I still save the hame bone and do work, I don't go out of my way when I have smoked turkey.
Killed it! I’m from Alabama and I trust this Cali man on my greens for New Year’s Day.
My greens came out so good. My grandma said she didn't think I made them. Thank you.
I have kiss my diet goodbye, and enjoy food again! Just jam in moderate quantities.

Yo AB! Living in Arkansas, I've eaten collard greens and seen them cooked all my life. But I've never cooked any myself until the other day. The cleaning, cutting, and cooking techniques you demonstrated in your video was exactly all I needed to make a pot of greens that rival any I've ever had! Appreciate you bro, keep being Blessed & keep Doin' yo Thang!
Also, my very first subscription!! You have such a wide range of delicious recipes, I plan on using many of 'em!

I made your collard greens and when I was done, i forgot to taste test it again. When i sat down bless the food, and tasted the greens. I put put my fork down, and was SHOCKED!!!💣💣💣p
This recipe reminded me of my best friend's mom's food who's from Mississippi, but better. Alot of people use pork in theirs and pork is unclean and I dont eat that but that Smoked Turkey was everything especially with FLAVOR!!! My mom and the kids were shocked too, it put a smile on everyones face!!!!
Haven’t missed with your recipes. Super easy instructions.
Keep it going OG.
I keep coming back to this recipe. I had never made greens before. My poor childre, lol.
AB!!! This is amazing! I’m a Jamaican living in the USA and I have never had Collard greens taste so good! I followed your recipe and everyone was going back for more. I also followed your Mac and cheese recipe and it was so good. My family said it was the best I have ever made. Thank you!! Keep on doing what you doing brother!
First off, those are some Beautiful Collards! I live here in North Carolina near the farms and personal gardens.. We pull them out the ground First great frost. They grow bigger than a newborn baby! I use bacon grease and cook mine using smoked turkey wings or tails. We MUST wash them in white vinegar and salt 2-3 times. I use a little apple cider vinegar in my cooking asking with red pepper flakes for heat. Another Great Video, thanks🍴
😋😉
When the frost hit the greens and they start to turn purple their the best
yo thanks man. single guy here. no lady. tired of eating out all the time. this simple recipe will keep me eating healthy. thanks.
Saying Hi from Holland! We are cooking your recipes here as well & we love the American taste! Keep up the good work!
I love the way he explained when he cooks
You must be from Cali. I can hear what sounds like an LA accent. I'm from Cali, but moved to Texas last year. I didn't realize we had accents until I moved here. Great video, I know them greens are fire.
My greens don’t taste this flavorful, so I’m hooked on yours-thanks😊
Every time I need a refresher I find myself back here
I really thought making greens was much harder. This is awesome and they came out amazing. Thanks AB!
Hey AB! Can you do a beginner series for southern cooking 101? I feel like my southern girl card is taken because I haven’t attempted to cook dishes like this 😂.
Love your recipe I use every thing you use that is why they have been tasting so good just started it about a year ago.

Lawd...these greens are so good I ate them with my fingers!!!
That's that 🔥🔥🔥 now I'm starving. 😳😳
That's how I've been cooking my greens since the 70s. You don't have to cook them with a full pot of water all day long (lol) like some people used to do!!
Way easier now :)
Ok guys you are making me want some greens 1:;am good night 💤
Gotta pull up here every holiday.

Who else referred to this video this morning? Happy Thanksgiving!!
Hey fam! Happy Thanksgiving!!
I’m Mexican and I made collard greens but with turkey neck bones for Christmas last year.My family never tasted greens before and they loved them. I will definitely try them with the legs.
where did you get your pre cooked turkey leg?
The perfect recipe for collards! I mixed collards with turnip greens and kale and add ham, browned ham steak chunks, and a tablespoon of bacon grease since I didn't have smoked turkey wings on hand. Can't wait to try them. Cornbread goes perfectly with this! This man knows what he is doing!
Just got home from the Farmer’s Market. Gonna get my Collard groove on!
Thanks for your video!
Love this recipe so much, I keep coming back every year.
Hey a b this is the ONLY way I cook collards. YES!!
