  • COVER your seed and you will definitely get quicker results and keep unwanted detritus off your seed bed, today i cover it as the beech trees are just dropping so many of the little flowery things and i think this will smother the new grass seed and kill it,

Thanks as always Dan. Got the same problem. Done The front lawn ok but got a big cherry in the back which is dropping confetti all over the lawn. Might be best leaving it till it’s dropped completely. Grass is all killed off but if I can’t get on it now might have to leave it till June due to other other things going on. ??

Great video! I’m trying to plant grass seed here in North Carolina and every year I do it a lot of seed gets washed away or eaten by birds. Will the fleece help with this? How long would I keep the fleece on? Also, what exactly is it called and where would I purchase it?
    Thank you very much.

Dan another well explained informative video, I have a tendency to check for germination about every 20 mins after the seed going down (even during the night) & spend long periods just staring as if to somehow mentally connect with the seed to make it germinate faster .... Do you think fleecing will help me to relax & just let nature take its course?

Hey Daniel. What is the type of fleece you use?? I need to seed a few lawns for customers but I’m worried about the seed getting eaten. I’ve used shade cloth as a temporary cover before but it is awkward, heavy and expensive to cover a whole lawn, though Re usable.
Do you reuse the fleece or does the grass growth through and then it breaks down into the soil??

Question; is it ok to use a black geotextile instead of a fleece? (I couldn’t find any) Water goes through, and it protects the seeds from the birds. But since it’s black, I don’t want the lawn to burn… It’s still early, but we get 2 days at 22 Celsius degrees this week.
    Thank you for your advice.

    • @DanielHibbertLawnExpert

Wont burn but the existing lawn will die as no light can get through and water doesnt get through as easy as white fleece black is thicker as it a weed membrane
