I worked for mccarthy in high school working on this research farm. The farm you went to in forset grove oregon is the farm in my grandpas back yard. I spent many hours mowing lawn on those test plots.
I did my own research and reseeded with Hatrick, fireball, and grey wolf. Another trick that I did was lay seed and then used the scarfier almost like a slit seeder. Then I did another pass of seed on top of that.
Great video, awesome video editing as usual. I’ve watched a lot of lawn channels and I can say you’re getting better and better with each video. Your research and ability to clearly articulate your findings is impressive. Well done!

What a great video. We used Hatrick last fall on one of our other fields along with 365 SS bluegrass. We just completed renovation on another field and we are using both of these grass types. Fireball and Hatrick from Twin City Seed Company. Irrigation will go in this week along with seed. Appreciate your hard work and dedication in your videos.

Turned out great. We are in southwest Ohio just North of Cincy. Seed (365 SS Bluegrass) was pre germinated and all was going great until mother nature threw us some much cooler weather last year. This was a baseball youth infield we worked on last fall. So roughly 3,000 sqft or so. Let’s just say Bluegrass is not in any kind of hurry for sure. So after about a month I just used our nail drag to open that canopy back up to get that seed to soil contact. What a difference that made. I will email you over some pics of it for you. Also will keep you updated on our renovation
I overseeded at the end of August. We did hit a week of 90 degree temps but the grass handled it fine. You still have time to overseed if you're in Minnesota. But time is running low

How do I mow lower from 2.5 inches to 2.0 inches when my Honda mower can cut through how thick the grass? time to use the Sun Joe? Any recommendations would be great, in Minnesota so cool season grass
Yes, you can use the scarify or dethatch attachment to thin it out a bit and then take it lower. Definitely should help!
Do you suggest any changes to mowing frequency or height of cut after overseeding, or just keep mowing as needed?
I would start mowing where you want to keep the height of cut at it. Mowing more is always better for grass, young or not.
Will mowing too soon disrupt germination though, or will seed be ok if it’s in close contact with soil and with sufficient moisture?
I would wait until the seed germinates and grows to your desired height

@@brianbowen295 that's awesome haha. You should check out their operation. It's really cool to see!
Hello, Do you have the 12amp 13inch or the 13amp 15inch version?
What a great video. We used Hatrick last fall on one of our other fields along with 365 SS bluegrass. We just completed renovation on another field and we are using both of these grass types. Fireball and Hatrick from Twin City Seed Company. Irrigation will go in this week along with seed. Appreciate your hard work and dedication in your videos.
Thank you! How did the overseed look with Hatrick? I'm going to need to see some photos when those renovations mature! Glad you're enjoying the content!
Also will keep you updated on our renovation
did you overseed in August? youtube said to not overseed until it's colder. Month of august in Minnesota had some 90+ temps.
I overseeded at the end of August. We did hit a week of 90 degree temps but the grass handled it fine. You still have time to overseed if you're in Minnesota. But time is running low
@@LAWNLIFE yes, i just overseed my front lawn yesterday. Going to do my back yard tonight. Thanks for response!
I have Kentucky bluegrass currently…will there be any issues if I over seed with your recommendations on my existing lawn?
No issues. I had 100% Kentucky bluegrass and just overseeded with this.
One of the best videos I ever watched on this subject. NTEP and Home Pride was a great find. Loved the research and development they showed. This video should blow up. Great job putting it together man. 👍🏻💚🦸🏻♂. I am happy with my Scotts ProVista KBG. Color , density and overall performance met my expectations .
Thanks Keith. A lot of time and energy went into this one obviously. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've been seeing your photos on Instagram. Looking good after the accidental glypho overdose 😂
@@LAWNLIFE I know right 🤦🤦🤦
Excellent video I was going to try the same combo. Busted my knee and now overseeding is out 😢
Dang that sucks. Hoping it's nothing serious and you're back on your feet soon! Thanks for watching.
@LAWNLIFE Thank you keep up with the good content
Hey, beginner here. Where would I buy the blend, or is this something I'd buy them both and mix at home?
You can buy the blend from Troy (the owner in the video). You can email him at troy@baileyseed.com
If we pre-germinate, do we still do the pressing and raking steps?
Yes
Looking for the darkest Kentucky Bluegrass is this Bluegrass/Rye mix darker than Barenburg ?
Love your contend
Thanks Gary!
Are your blackout grass seeds a sun and shade mix
The tall fescue and perennial ryegrass (fireball and hattrick) will both do well in sun and shade.
Can you please make a video on how to keep fire ants off of lawn? Subbed and thanks
