I think in the netherlands all the waist is burned, for making electricity and city wide heating systems. What's left after combustion goes to landfills, but it's not much. And the exhaust gases are filtered before being released back into the atmosphere.
It only goes to landfills temporarily. What remains after incineration, ash basically, is used for the bedding of roads and elevation for bridges and such, covered in grass so you don't see it. We don't have the type of landfills where garbage is just left rotting away. We don't have the space for that.
Yes, waste-to-energy. We kind of have to, we don't have the space for landfills like the US, not much land available. BUT, unfortunately, we also export trash to developing countries, who get paid to store our freaking trash on their land. All of the EU do this, to China, Indonesia, Africa, because the density of people is too high here to store a lot of waste. This needs to stop!!
Amsterdam is kind of behind on trash collection, compared to the rest of the Netherlands (or many countries in Europe). The rest of NL generally also have the wheelie bins.
most suburbia in the Netherlands have the wheelie bins that you need to put by the road alternating weeks as well. Different bins for compostable waste, plastics and "rest". Just cities where people don't have gardens to keep their containers have those underground deposits.
I'm Half american and half indonesian. I live in the hague. I can throw trash whenever I want or whenever the trash can is full. I don't have big trash bin. I also recycle my trash twice a week. I only do that when I go do grocery sinds the recycle container is in front of the supermarkt. I go to supermarkt with a bike (3min). There are alot of supermarkt in the netherland so supermarkt are usually close to most people houses.
Generally there is no garbage day where people live in multi-family housing. Here in Gdynia we don't have 'garbage pandas' and we don't have underground containers, but we also don't have garbage days. I take my garbage out any time I like to shared containers in a dedicated separated place next to the building.
Not true, we got bins everywhere in the Netherlands, one for plastic one for paper one for food scraps and the last one the normal trash. Only in the middle of the city you don't have that for normal trash but you still be putting out your plastic trash bags once a week. Funny part is that you also pay a lot more compared to the bins, instead of paying per bin you pay per bag. Even in the outskirts of Amsterdam, or a little out of the center everyone just has the normal bins.
@@americangirlreacts It's fascinating how we had similar experiences as children, on different continents and in different economic circumstances, like those ice-cream trucks or bumping cars in traveling funfairs :)
Waste of plastic is not about people caring. It's about regulations. This is what authorities are for - to introduce necessary laws. People won't organize themselves to recycle on their own.
Yea or the part that 80% of all plastic in the sea comes from the Philippines and we gotta fix it here according to our government, what a joke, shame it ain't funny.
Right?! We're no better in the Netherlands, sending our trash to developing countries. Maybe we're a little better at recycling and processing waste here, but a lot is still out there on some landfill..
About 41% gets recycled, a lot of the rest we do send to developing countries, but more in Asia than in Africa. (Actually indonesia takes most of our trash)
I figured it would of went to China. Amsterdam and most countries around are a lot better at recycling, reducing landfills by a lot. Europe’s largest landfills are generally smaller than the U.S.’s, because many European countries prioritize recycling, incineration, and waste reduction strategies.

No, it only gets burned if people don’t sort out their waste properly

Wheelie bin advanced?
That carbage day is not only in Amsterdam, but practicly all over the Netherlands
That is true

Lol, she's wondering how it works, when it's literally shown on screen in that moment.
Hey, my stupidity keeps it interesting, right? lol
Those containers are now everywhere in the netherlands 🇳🇱 Walking distamce for me is luckily 15 meters
almost every village or town in the netherlands has them...
Not only in Amsterdam. Most big cities in the Netherlands use this garbage disposal system 😊
On UA-cam: The Ocean Cleanup Foundation, founded by Dutch Boyan Slat… see what happens when we don’t recycle!

no need to walk long distance to throw stinky and dirty trash. My bin is 10 meter in front of my house.

We also used to have ice cream trucks in Poland when I was a kid. I haven't seen them in decades.
We still have ice cream trucks. but not as often as when i was a kid.

You nevver have a big bag of dipers or other trash, because you walk by the underground container every day. I got one 20m from my front door...
And the unrecycle trash we sell it to africa. Sad that not everyone is recycling. There is a short documentary for this. Not just netherland tho.
Garbage day is only outside the Dutch city,s
What a nonsense, the ice cream truck in Europe is the same 😏😏😏
