The scenery along this hike is so beautiful! The round tent and those two mini alpacas are so cute! The color of the lake in the valley is really special, as if someone added milk to the lake! I feel sorry for you getting sick in that mountain, but you shot many beautiful scenery is still worth celebrating! You did a really great job, thanks a lot for sharing!👍🥰🙌
No No No Neither of you are failures. You listened and responded to your bodies and mental well-being. We must maintain our health to enjoy our adventures. Take care you two. Beautiful Peru. After New Zealand for 3 months I want to go to Peru and Brazil. 💙💏
Please don't feel like a failure. This video is so inspiring to many of us. You guys are wonderful. Thank you for allowing us to share in your adventures.
What a heavenly hike! The scenery with the waterfalls and animals along the way was beautiful. The lake up in the mountains was magnificent. Hope you two are feeling better. 🤙
The altitude in Peru is serious, and it hits you at the most unexpected moment. I will tell you once you get to las montañas de colores be prepared, you may have the same experience. The Caballero costs about the same. Also be sure to bring extra sol to pay to enter that region in Andes it’s separate from the tour costs.
Carol is right. Hikiing in high altitudes is something that cannot be rushed. You should really take it slow. Sometimes the mind wants to do things that the body doesn't. Good decision on turning back. Your body's health is more important 👍
We did a ten day hike around Ausangate. Heard avalanches that sounded like thunder. Hiked over a pass above 15,000 ft. The locals dry and burn Alpaca poop as fuel for cooking and warmth as there are no trees at altitude. Beautiful Country.
@@JumpingPlaces We all had altitude sickness and one in our party had to be evacuated on horseback to a dirt road, then by ambulance with 4x4 wheel drive. We did two days hike in one day to get him out asap. We visited him in hospital. Met two doctors who treated him for pneumonia. After a couple of days he was well enough to travel. He was well cared for. Had to pay his bill in full prior to leaving. I don’t think we acclimated to the altitude before leaving for the hike. I successfully summited Kilimanjaro this year without any altitude sickness.
@@JumpingPlaces We hiked the Lemosho Route. VIP private group with a support team of 13. Four of us were 67/68 years old, one was 31. We all summited. Took meds for altitude. Summited at 6 am. 16 F! One of the greatest experiences of my life. Life changing. I thought it was easy but I’ve climbed a lot of mountains. I was very concerned about altitude. We arrived a couple of days early. Climbed a volcano in Kilimanjaro National Park with our guide and an armed Park Ranger to help acclimate. Tanzania is amazing!
Gorgeous intro. As always. The scenery is gorgeous. Insane views. I always worry for you both. When you do these hikes with altitude sickness. Glad you listening to your body. A great experience. Staying in the dome. The mountains are spectacular. Beautiful. The food looked tasty. The lake is gorgeous. You did amazing. The horses do look healthy. Thank you for taking us along.
I think one of your best episodes, and no beaches 😂. Visually stunning and an area not many people ever experience. Shout out to the camera/drone work 👏
Brilliant video Chris and Carol. I loved the trek with views of the lake against the mountains. Ben Nevis is just a baby at 1345metres compared to these mountains, thoroughly enjoyed it, Good luck to you on your future adventures, I'll be with you all the way. I must look at some of your old videos when I get the time, all the best, Davie. 👍👍🙏
Wow Chris find the place looks a lot like the Himalayas. Hope you and Carol are doing great. 🎉 thanks so much for sharing. I am seeing should beautiful places through you and Carol eyes places that I may not be able to go.
Love your videos! I was in Peru 2020, and the lake hike was my favorite part. Living close to sea level, it was incredibly difficult. We acclimated for about 4 days before attempting it with other tours, and I consider myself in great shape (work out daily for almost 30 years). My wife made it about 1/3 the way before she took a horse. I was determined to make it, and I did, but it took a long time. I felt lightheaded and sick the rest of the day from it. Altitude sickness is no joke. We got lucky with perfect weather and there was even a small avalanche high up behind the lake too. One of the younger guys from our hotel almost didn't make it back to the bus. He made the mistake of doing Rainbow mountain on his 1st day and was experiencing severe altitude sickness already (dizzy, nausea, etc.) I felt terrible for him cause his 3rd day was Macchu Picchu and he couldn't make it. He spent that day with some oxygen supplied by the hotel. If you travel to Cusco, take it light the first few days and slowly build up to the higher excursions.
@@porfiriato84 My main word of advice is do the trek later in your trip. If you're there for a week and staying in Cusco, maybe do it on day 5 or 6. That way you get a few days to acclimate. Our arrival day we just walked around town. Day 2 was Machu Pichuu. Another easy excursion on day 3. I believe day 4 or 5 was Lake Humantay. The horse rides to the top are pretty cheap. They followed us up and kept offering if we were struggling.
Great video - thanks to you both. It brought back great memories of being on that trail in May. Fortunately my group had clear skies the entire trip - we did a 7 day trek with lodge stays. The landscapes are spectacular and unforgettable.
@@JumpingPlaces Yes, I did it with Mountain Lodges of Peru…it’s a 7 day trip if you include the time at Machu Picchu, and I extended it by spending an extra day at Machu Picchu, then took the train back to Ollantaytambo.

I was lucky to do a three day version of this trek with the last day walking the original Inca trail and seeing Machu Picchu from the side across the valley. Keep trekking!
Nice! We actually did a day trek on the inca trail going to Machu Picchu which is our next video. We stopped at the camp which is where you will have joined the trail from Salkantay
Wow! What an adventure! You guys are young and in good health. That appeared to be very challenging physically. Not your typical tourist vlog at all. Great job in meeting the challenge. The reward was experiencing those one of a kind views.
