  • I review the chipper. A club that few hit. Can this add ease to your short game? How about versatility around the greens? We explore this.

I've tried a the Cleveland Smart Sole 4 chipper twice. Once last year and once this year. I wanted so much to keep it in the bag but came to the realization that I had all of those shots in the bag with other clubs. So, out of the bag it went.....twice! LOL

I use a Zevo 35* chipper up to 130 yards out. Chipping around the green you never hit fat or thin. You have to practice like with any other club but you basically lift up and let it fall into back of ball. I'm not a great golfer by any means but practicing with this club a lot will definitely help your game. People will usually ask me what kind of club that is after watching some of my chips. I have zero ego, just trying to get better. Thanks for video.

@@mistahshorthitter I play with a buddy that finally gave in and got the Cleveland chipper after chunking so many around the green. The last few times we’ve played he’s trying to get the feel but he hasn’t chunked with it!

Cleveland makes a smart sole chipper that has 42° loft I believe. It has an upright lie but maybe 67° or 68° instead of 70°

I carry a 45* square strike strike style chipper. I like the weight, wide sole, and the short upright shaft on it. Makes my bad chips not as bad. I’m sure I wouldn’t need it if I just practiced my chipping more. ⛳️

No one can deny they make chipping a lot easier. If they were more versatile I'd use one. I may consider taking out a club to make room.

I have the Square Strike too; seems a little more lively than this one and i like the slightly higher loft of 45° though it flights lower. I consistently get the ball 3-5 yards closer when chipping and virtually no more chunks. I bump and run it with much better accuracy out to about 40 yards. Uphill its good too. Very good distance control (added weight?) Will have to try the bunker. I don’t carry a 3 wood so I had the room. IMO, for the once-a-week golfer I think this is essential gear. You use a putting grip high in the palm, so if you are generally a good putter you will like this club. Who really is practicing their short game enough? Virtually nobody has given me any grief about the Green Machine in my bag. 👍

Chipper would help golfers considerably who are inconsistent with chipping with 8 or 9 iron or PW. However, it is too low lofted for chips that require higher lofts of GW, SW and LW.

I’m not, got one! Comes in handy, only use it when I’m right around the greens when shots come up short, basically when I’m usually playing it safe.. it’s a cool tool but like you said, even some of the miss hits leave you in a decent spot.. #out

Well, since Cleveland is my favorite clubs, I guess I’ll be looking for one of those. I’ll check online. Thank you very much and what state are you in that you can play by yourself and nobody’s bugging you. Can’t do that here in Florida specially, when the snowbirds are here from up north.

@@mistahshorthitter of course it depends on which part of Florida. Away from the big cities it’s more doable. In the summer we really take advantage because the tourists are back north, especially the Canadiens. If you ever come down near Port St. Lucie give me a heads up. We’ll go out
