- Ludmilla Tourischeva performs her optional balance beam routine in the team competition of the 1972 Olympic Games. She ties her teammates Olga Korbut and Tamara Lazakovich for the highest optional beam score of the team competition (9.750).
She was so overlooked in the shadow of Olga Korbut. You watch her and you knkow you're watcing maturity, grace, experience--the complete package.
But OK‘s beam routine really was more impressive. On the floor it was the other way around.
I agree, and I’m a die hard fan, but she was not exciting or daring. It was always safe. Karin Janz was a lot more enthralling
@@robcrisall787 Yep, agree, Ludmila is like a well-oiled robot. Not much to be excited about.
She was and still is a beautiful woman! Talented, strong, and so graceful...like a ballerina in the gym.
Ludmilla Tourischeva did not have the advantage of padded beams with big, fluffy mats beneath them. Those beams were wood and solid and unforgiving, the mats very thin.
And today's beams are also spring-loaded, like most if not all of the gymnastic apparatus.
Thank goodness those days are gone. This era may have been more “elegant.” “artistic” or whatnot, but it was also terribly destructive on these girls’ (and guys’) bodies. There’s a reason today’s gymnasts can have a decade or more long career- and these folk were lucky to get 4 or five tops. I know of many gymnasts from this era who have a plethora of issues- back, hip, ankle, you name it- all from gymnastics on an unforgiving surface. This was also an era of obscene corruption and control of the judging by only one or potentially two (mostly the USSR)- leaving many deserving athletes without a justified medal. Today athletes are judged on ability- not country of origin.
What I do miss in today's gymnastics is the liquid artistic moves. While I appreciate the amazing stunts that todays gymnasts can accomplish, I really miss the art of moving like liquid. Beautiful.
Me too
It was more of a super Gymnastic ballet
I will always love the wonderful Ludmilla Tourischeva!
Class act!
Let's see you try it with your awesome backflips and splits =). Let's see you beat Ludmilla Tourischeva! Gymnastics today cannot compare to the past, for all the grace in the spot has vanished and all the athletes care about are strength and difficulty when grace and posture are the foundations of gymnastics
Today’s athletes aren’t starved, horribly abused, grossly overworked little girls. I’ll take power and strength over girls who look like a gust of wind would knock them over any day!! At least today gymnasts are allowed to be HEALTHY without fear of harsh judgement from dumb sods like you- who don’t mean a hoot to the world.
I love seeing the taller gymnasts on beam. Looked quite lovely-a few bobbles, but still a nice looking routine.
Much prefer the olden days when gymnastics had class and artistic value, not the power tumbling that you see today.
and lots of methylphenidate
Me too.
Much better than Simone Biles today
I like the athletic skill of the power tumbling
@@xana5649 In NO world was that better than Simone Biles🤷🏽♂️ Sports like everything evolve.
Это действительно ЖЕНСКАЯ гимнастика. Красота, блеск!
And judging so corrupted by the USSR it’s a laughable travesty.
i remember this like it was (almost) yest, when Soviets had butts and topped medal charts as well. classy disciplined dynamo was she, the last of the shapely champs
A real woman with a woman’s body. The balance beam was about balance then.
Something about her always kind of mesmerized me! Her stoic face, maybe, and her long classic lines?
My childhood hero. She was the Olympic All Around Champion and World Champion. Olga was daring and caught everyone's attention and won a couple of medals but Tourischeva was the Queen back then.
Very elegant, her arm moved really ballet like
Exactly not like the power tumblers of today . A grace, style, and elegance not seen today
Thank you to whom ever put this into My feed.
She was stunning !
Fun fact: Before Nadia became famous, she repected and was a big fan of Tourischeva. She was a classic gymnast!
The forward roll sequence is divine
Ludmila Turischeva ♥️♥️♥️
AAAAAHHHH IT'S A WOLF TURN IT'S ALWAYS BEEN HERE NOOOOOO
THIS is gymnastics
What a beautiful, serene young woman she was. To look at, in some ways resembling both Ingrid Bergman & Claudia Cardinale-what a combination! Rather a superb gymnast as well !
Olga seemed to have a commanding, flawless confidence that Ludmila lacks here and I think it's freshness, youth & size. Ludmila has a timeless beauty, grace, phenomenal talent & dedication that spanned decades, and she was a good team sportsman & dear teacher to her peers. Although I'm admittedly a devoted Olga fan, Tourischeva had a refreshing womanly presence & realistic body, a sweet & lovely femininity to her while at the same time displayed Soviet nerves of steel, just like Olga's daring courageous vulnerability, Ludmila had her own unique/odd driving combination that drew crowds inward & captures everyone's attention 🌹
Athleticism with grace and elegance. Not like the muscle bound powered tumblers of today.
You mean, ATHLETES rather than starved, abused and grossly overworked girls?
In other words, white girls can’t compete with Simon Biles ! She’s the greatest !
Exactly my thoughts elegant
@@Cleverlady282 How silly of you to make this about race! Also, that is definitely one way to completely turn the OC upside down, huh?
beautiful routine, elegant gymnast
I love that cheeky step on dismount
1972 IS that long ago! ;)
But yes, it's amazing how far the sport has come. I remember watching the 72 Olympics (which seems like centuries ago). Olga became the breakout star, mainly because of the backflip off the high uneven bar, which was almost seen as death-defying! lol
No "almost" about it. Because of the danger, it's now a banned move.
She was always my favorite, I always had a serious crush on her!
Best gymnast I've seen beside Korbut and nadia comăneci I could watch her for hours.
Linda e talentosa!!!
Should have been at least a 9.95, routine looked perfect!!!
I disagree , but she was a great gymnast!
Did you see the back Handspring with the bent legs?
She had checks of balance on her mount and press handstand.
If I was to try that on an unpadded wooden beam like that I would end up giving myself a transgenderizing of epic oroportions
Нет слов... Только восхищение!!!🌹🌹🌹
Lol, some things never change: even back then you could hear the girls yelling "Stoi!". She looked massively relieved to have that over with. 9.75, that's a fair score considering the errors. This routine is inferior to Korbut's in every way, but that doesn't say anything bad about Ludmilla. She had the typical difficulty of her day. As beautiful as these old BB exercises are, I'm glad they've evolved. Too many idiots lament about how everything was sooo much better back then, but this is a sport not a ballet. The CoP has screwed things up in some ways though.
Yeah, well, count me as a lamenting idiot -- I liked it when women's gymnastics still had women!
One more "lamenting idiot" here, wishing that female gymnasts started looking like graceful women again and not like bodybuilders.
This is artistic gymnastics not bodybuilder tumbling. Go away.
*_I'm a gymnast, and in MY naked eyes :), it's so funny that 70s GYMNASTS WORE SHOES & SOX! BOTH GYMNASTS IN THIS VIDEO ARE WEARING SHOES & SOX! I ALWAYS DO GYMNASTICS WITH BARE FEET, WHICH IS THE BEST WAY! SO, GYMNASTICS OF TODAY IS SMARTER & MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN IN THE 70s!_*
NeanderthalOverlord are you now going to tell us you preferred swimming when they still had women?
Otra de las grandes gimnastas del mundo Ludmila, después de Olga Korbut
Que hermoso como la alientan sus compañeras.. ♥️
The ultimate woman.
Beautiful flow and strength
For some reason I remember she wasnt liked as much as Olga. She was cold. No smiles. But what a dynamo.
Красавицы!
I love the camaderie at 1:42
So the wolf turn started with Ludmilla 🤔 😆…This was a great routine. I prefer Olga’s but Ludmilla was a great gymnast as well.
She kind of ignored Olga there when coming down the stairs but I think Olga was getting a lot of press attention that year which may have annoyed LT who was dominant (we see why!) in the field of women gymnasts. (At the meet where Nadia Comaneci debuted with her friend Teodora, Ludmilla was to be the last performer but I think Nadia's coach got them there late when Ludmilla had just finished and they just took off their jackets and sweat pants and came out doing a duo routine where each mirrored the other. Ludmila was described as annoyed, she had been assured she would be last on the program as the major presence. Ah well. She was wonderful to see in her day).
@@1234cheerful so basically she was a self righteous, puffed up primadona… go figure.
Does anyone know who is performing behind Ludmilla? I just loved the music.
I love balance beam ❤
2 judges thought it was worth a 9.80. Way overscored even for 1972. Insecure from the very beginning to the end.
Грациозная,очень красивая гимнастка,ее красота на все времена.
🔥
Tourischeva chulada también
Sorry but
there was a piano and a pianist into the gym?
Yes, the piano music is for the athlete competing on floor, you can see her in the red leotard tumbling behind Tourisheva. Back then the gymnasts were only allowed to use piano music for their floor exercise. Some teams brought their own pianist who played live music on a piano provided by the competition hall.
Ruffian144 Not allowed, required. Non piano music was allowed after 1980
metsdudenj OK, but I said the athletes "were only allowed to use piano music"; it means the same as saying piano music was required.
+metsdudenj I thought 1979 Worlds used recorded orchestration?
In the Olympics, the first Olympics to use it was 1980, you are correct the first world competition was 79
These times are best, voting for performance, not the butts of today's show offs
а мелодия первая ваще памятна
Раньше упражнения были мение сложными, но всё равно молодчина.
Но более опасными.
In elk opzicht een lust voor het oog..!
As a kid in the early 70's it was this woman who made me have to go "to the bathroom' a lot. :-)
You are disgusting
So pretty.
А на заднем плане вольные выполняла, по-моему, Оля Корбут.
Я удивилась Там тоже нелегкая программа была, все опладировали
Magari sportsmeni iko
Olga Korbut was much better!!!
Olga was more acrobatic
Olga was also more prone to making huge mistakes and didn’t have the same temperament as Ludmila,
Which is why she never beat her in an AA competition
She took that one extra step on the dismount. In Soviet Russia that was grounds for exile to Siberia.
Beautiful girl. Maybe Communism wasn't so bad...
lolz
slide4180 mmmm would you want to live under communism?
@@notnek202 Communism was VERY VERY BAD!
What?!?
Don't confuse communism with socialism. Communism never existed on Earth, socialism did. And it was a good time.
She's performing and someone else is performing on the mat. Thats really off putting.
Back when Russia ruled the stage, Very often over looked, as after her, then came the "kids".
The Soviet Union ruled the stage, but many of their athletes weren't 'Russian'. For example, of the six women on the 1972 USSR Olympic gymnastics team, Olga Korbut, Tamara Lazakovich, and Antonina Koshel were from Belarus, Ludmilla Tourischeva was from Ukraine, and Elvira Saadi was from Uzbekistan. Lyubov Burda was the sole Russian on the team. Note, a couple of them were born in Russia, but were not considered ethnic 'Russians', and most lived or have lived out their lives in their ethnic homelands, with the exception of Korbut who later moved to the States.
@@mysticalmargaret6105 Tourischeva was rom Grozny (Russia), She moved to Kiev when she married Borzov.
richtig schlecht
Lets be honest, she was NOT good on beam
Classic gym..slow..walking..on the beam..??(..
Que horror kkk uma coreografia ! Ainda q a ginástica evoluiu
I don’t see any difference from Olgas routine. I actually prefer this one. Olga was overrated
You obviously don't see very well.. The difference is that Korbut's routine was much more acrobatic, therefore much harder. And she is NOT 'overrated'. Olga put the sport on the map with her much riskier, revolutionary gymnastics. If it weren't for Olga, women would still be performing static moves on bars and beam, with little if any acrobatics!
Watch with your eyes open then- you’ll see better.
she is quite graceful but for lord's sake her "splits" are worse than Kim Kelly's. There's nothing artisitc about a girl who can't hit her splits.
Drew B Dafuq are you watching? LOL. She was known for her grace and poise.
Kim Kelly was an absolute joke.
@@EdGringo78 Bravo!
She was horrible. The back handspring was laughable. Lasakovitch was much better. Forward roll. Ha!
I never liked her
