Hi Mohammed, you can do either or. There is no right answer, it is up to your interests. I think you could see some overlap but both are definitely different. There are areas of study of drugs in BME research, like drug delivery technologies for example. But in the most part I think they can be pretty different. BME would definitely give you a broader knowledge of the biomedical field, outside of pharmaceuticals. But if your interest is in that specific field, I don’t see a need to double major. However, if you’d like to broaden your options to medical devices for example, then you ah want to consider BME. I heard there is two types in Bachelor: Bachelor of science in BME and Bachelor of engineering in BME. Which one did you take in your Uni? What is the difference between the two? I am seriously confused... Can you also tell me further about the technical specialist? I didn't get it well but it seem interesting. Thanks you so much for making videos like these.
Honestly, I hadn't heard of this. Question for you, did you see both offered at the same university? I would assume that maybe some universities offer B.S. and others B.E. I don't think there should be much of a difference. My university offers a Bachelors of Science in engineering. I think MOST colleges will do B.S. Bachelors in Engineering are usually in countries like Australia, UK, New Zealand from what I saw when i searched it. And yes, so to be a technical specialist, this means you will basically specialize in some field of medicine, say cardiology as I give the example. There are several programs out there where you can get accreditation AFTER completing your bachelors. You will specialize in medical devices in said field, and you will work at hospitals closely with doctors and patients to manage devices. There is actually a video of a cardiac specialist from another channel. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/YFv5ibnPQSw/v-deo.html&lc=UgzRj6RP6jIjWgoVLvJ4AaABAg.96N75EZ-Qus97BeYP3PDEl Hope this helps! and thank YOU for reaching out!
The BME Life Yayy you replied. Thanks that really give me an insight of the specialist thing. Thank youu. ❤️ I’ve been planning to go into medicine after my bachelor in BME. But I will have to work for two year to save up some money for medical school. Yup. So is there really enough job offers if I’ll take BME and especially in a hospital right after bachelor alone...? Or do u have other suggestions?
@@t.k7129 There are definitely jobs out there but they can be pretty competitive. Make sure to get some research or internship experience while you are an undergrad to be a competitive candidate. I am honestly not so sure about hospital jobs (I personally have a focus to industry). If you know that you are going to medical school right after, I would go to medical school right away without waiting. I understand it is a lot of money, but it is also a looong career. And you will get your money back once you are a practicing doctor. However, as someone who is planning to work in industry, I will follow that path of graduating with B.S. working for a couple of years, and then go back to grad school for either a masters or a PhD. So its really up to what you want to do. Try to network and find internships. Those will give you connections and you can meet people that are doing the same thing you'd like to do, and they might give better advice :) hope this helps though!

@thebmelife i love in SA also I was thinking of going for nursing but been having a second thought about going to UTSA for biomedical engineering how’s the program??
I personally love it! But it really is up to you and what you wanna do. If you see yourself working closely with patients and treating them, I would say nursing is the way to go. But if you’d like a job still in the medical field but with a lot of different options I think BME is great!
The BME Life I am honestly fine with either or it’s just the additional classes added on to my degree at northwest vista that has me hesitant but thank you for the reply!
Michael Trujillo Jr. No problem! And if you ever have any questions feel free to reach out! We’ve actually started a Facebook group intended for questions and making connections! So feel free to join @The BME Life
Don’t go for a fancy degree. Go for nursing since it’s more practical and pays well. Moreover you can even work anywhere. Ask your seniors where they are working in bme field. Most can’t find jobs are are forced to go To grad school to find something meaningful with that degree. You should talk to more people before making such important decisions that will affect your career. Go to job websites and see the jobs available for bme graduates or of possible take a trip to the hospital to see the kind of work they do and see if you can enjoy their work long term.
Is it better to pursue MD after biomedical eng or go for masters? Obviously, completing both, considering I’d also be doing phd will take almost the same amount of time.
It's a great question! You can do all these things, but to say which is better is very hard 😅 We will be having a speaker soon who is a PhD to talk about his experience, hopefully that can bring some insight. Hello, thanks for informative video! My field was Biotechnology in bachelor's degree. I didn't learn medicine. If I apply for master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, is it possible to learn and understand BME? Please give me advice, thank you!
Thank you so much about the video. I was wondering about going to medical school after finishing biomedical engineering. How many years it take to finish medical school. By the way of talking about tissue engineering what are best places to take master in it?
From what I have researched, to obtain an M.D. it is 4 years after bachelors and then about 3-5 years of residency, rotations, etc. So you would be looking at a total of about 12 years after graduating high school to be a practicing physician. I am honestly not sure about where the best places to master in tissue engineering would be. I did a quick google search and top results were MIT and Duke University. Also, here is an article on the top 50 best schools to get a masters in BME: www.collegechoice.net/rankings/masters-in-biomedical-engineering-degrees/ Thank you for your feedback! :)

Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/YFv5ibnPQSw/v-deo.html&lc=UgzRj6RP6jIjWgoVLvJ4AaABAg.96N75EZ-Qus97BeYP3PDEl
Hope this helps! and thank YOU for reaching out!
What kind of classes did you take in college? I’m a current high school senior who’s confused as to which major to take. Is it a very hard major? Thank you.
Hi Mirna! Thank you for your question. We will surely make a descriptive video for the classes. To answer your last question, it is a hard major, as it requires a lot of time and dedication. But I would never call it an impossible major. Hope this helps!

So feel free to join @The BME Life
The BME Life okay cool! I’ll join in a little
Don’t go for a fancy degree. Go for nursing since it’s more practical and pays well. Moreover you can even work anywhere. Ask your seniors where they are working in bme field. Most can’t find jobs are are forced to go
To grad school to find something meaningful with that degree.
However, in the meantime, here is the FAQ tab from our website
thebmelife.com/faq/
(still under construction) where you might find some answers to your questions too! Hope this helps, Supraja! :)
Thank you so much for getting back so soon! I’m doing my first year of bme this year, and am super excited!

Hi. Can I be a Biomedical Scientist with a Biomedical Engineering degree? And what are the general career paths in Biomedical Engineering that works in a hospital environment? I want to work in a hospital environment 😅. Thank you
Yes! From my understanding, you may want to look into clinical engineering, hospital management, etc.
Can I go to medical school to be doctor via biomed engineering degree?
I am from foreign planning to join biomed engineering as a undergraduate degree....Please anyone answer my questions....
Give me reply also plz
Yes, you can go to medical school after BME (at least in US). Unfortunately, I am not sure how other countries do it.
If later,we wanna go into medical fields
Can we do an MD after biomed....or is it necessary to start with your bachelors first
Hi Shreya! You can indeed go into medical school for an MD after bachelors in BME!
Hi..Does a BME degree helpful in pharmaceutical manufacturing industry??
Yes!
@@TheBMELife thankyou so much..you are a real inspiration for students of BME..
Nicky Perera Thank you, this really means a lot ☺️
Can you please tell us things we can learn before studying bme ? Please
Thank you for your suggestion Dareen! I will definitely make a video on this :)
You can also join our facebook group to ask fellow BMEs this question!
@@TheBMELife thank you so much
But I don't have Facebook 😔
Amazing video but that sales and marketing thing is done by marketing managers not by any type of engineers even if they biomedical engineer or whatever.
Alpha Nemesis Thank you! I actually personally know someone who did both bachelors and masters in engineering, and they’re now in the marketing department. And you can also go into sales as an engineer, as I also personally know someone who does this 😅 maybe it’s not common, but it’s definitely possible!
@@TheBMELife ohh that's nice! Thanks for your reply :)
Hello, thanks for informative video!
My field was Biotechnology in bachelor's degree. I didn't learn medicine. If I apply for master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, is it possible to learn and understand BME? Please give me advice, thank you!
Definitely! I think you'll have great background knowledge. Best of luck! :)
Thank you so much about the video. I was wondering about going to medical school after finishing biomedical engineering. How many years it take to finish medical school. By the way of talking about tissue engineering what are best places to take master in it?
And if you have any social media
Facebook for example to contact with you. Write it down. Thank you
From what I have researched, to obtain an M.D. it is 4 years after bachelors and then about 3-5 years of residency, rotations, etc. So you would be looking at a total of about 12 years after graduating high school to be a practicing physician.
I am honestly not sure about where the best places to master in tissue engineering would be. I did a quick google search and top results were MIT and Duke University. Also, here is an article on the top 50 best schools to get a masters in BME: www.collegechoice.net/rankings/masters-in-biomedical-engineering-degrees/
Thank you for your feedback! :)
I am actually in my third year in biomedical engineering and really interested to take my master in tissue engineering.
Do you have any social accounts to follow you with?? Facebook for instance

IS UCSD a good school for bio medical engineering?
I don't know anyone from UCSD but I think as long as YOU make the most out of it, any school you choose will be good 😊
Thank you for your kind explanation . My son is interested in BME. Is there many jobs in BME field?
jin min There are definitely jobs out there, and is a field in growing demand. However, I can honestly say that other more general engineerings such as Mechanical are in greater demand. I chose BME because I love how multidisciplinary it is, it has great job outlook and potential to have high earning income.
Are you sure that we will definitely get a job after undergraduate biomedical engineering
I personally got one! Not necessarily what I was expecting (mostly because of the pandemic) but yes :)
@@TheBMELife I wanna know is it so hard to study (like it's only for toppers)and hard to pass
I live in Canada, would you happen to know if Job opportunities are the same here? If not that’s totally understandable. I am a grade 12 student who will be applying to university very soon and I am very interested in BME. Thanks
Hi Isabella! Thank you for reaching out 😊 i actually, indeed, dont know of the Canadian market. However, I know Canada is popularly a great choice for education and employment, so you should be great!
very helpful .thank you..

Thank YOU! :)
Do you think I could get a job as BME with degrees in mechanical engineering technology and biology? I’m trying to get into PA school but I’ll have about a year in limbo before I get in (if I do) so this seemed like an interesting field to work in the mean time
You can get into BME with just mechanical engineering! But a minor in biology would be a nice plus! 😃
Thankyou sis

Nur Shafiqah Abdul Aziz Are you referring to high school classes or college?
@@TheBMELife college uwu
Nur Shafiqah Abdul Aziz well if you want to apply to a BME program, you’ll probably need science courses like biology, chemistry, physics and up to calculus 2. But it really depends on the school where you are so make sure to check their requirements!
