Yep. Alot of great shows back then. Blue Gender, Blue Submarine No.6, FLCL, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Afro Samurai, Trigun. The new generation is missing out but not entirely. They got Full metal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Gurren Lagann, Hellsing Ultimate, One punch man. On second thought, that's a pretty solid roster.
If you read the wikipedia artiicle on Cowboy Bebop, during the second season, Yoko Kanno stopped waiting to be told what songs to write and just sent new stuff to the series producer. She and the producer essentially were collaborators on episode plots after that point....

Spike Spiegel: Are you still in pain? Jet Black: Have you heard this story? A man injures his leg during the hunt. He's in the middle of the Savannah, with no means to treat the wound. The leg rots and death approaches. The last minute he's picked up by an airplane. He looks down and sees a land of pure white below him, glistening in the light. It's the summit of a snow-capped mountain, the mountain is Kilimanjaro. As he gazes down he feels the life flowing out of him and he thinks, 'That's where I was headed... Spike Spiegel: And? Jet Black: I hate stories like that. Men only think about the past right before their death. As if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive.
"When angels are forced out of Heaven, they become devils. You agree, don't you, Spike?" "Heh. I'm just watching a bad dream I never wake up from." "I'll wake you up, right now." "What's the rush, Vicious? After all, it's been a long time." "Are you pleading for your life?" "Hardly. Begging doesn't work on you, remember? Even if it's coming from the man who took you in and made you what you are." "Perhaps, but he was a beast who lost his fangs. That's why he had to die, Spike. And that's why you have to die."
Thanks for sharing that memorable dialogue. It feels like a classic play. I love it. Ballad of Fallen Angels is my favorite episode of my favorite show on earth! Vicious my favorite villain/antagonist. Characters in this show are some of my favorite of all time.
Yeah he played Vicious in an amazing way. I loved every second of him on screen. I wish the creator of Bebop would make a prequel film about the time of Spike, Vicious and Julia with the syndicate, before and leading to the great falling out.

This episode was the first episode I ever saw back when it was on adult swim, and was just on Friday night's 12 or more years ago. This scene is the reason I got in to anime in the first place. I can't think of any episode of any show that is better.

" If there is hell, I'm sure this is how it smells". What a brilliant fucking line that is! Like all the critics and fans say; this anime is an epic masterpiece. Every episode is genius on it's own. This show is entirely in it's own class. Almost not fair to compare other anime (or any other show for that matter) to this marvelous opera of sci-fi, drama, action, comedy, and tragic romance. Jet: Everything has a beginning and an end. Life is just a cycle of starts and stops. There are ends we dont desire, but they are inevitable, we have to face them. Its what being a human is all about. Faye: The past is the past and the future is the future. A man is a man and a woman is a woman. The present is the present. I am who I am and you are who you are. That's all there is to it. Does it really matter? Or do we just think it does? Both of the most amazing and memorable quotes come from the "next episode" segments of the two last episodes. Faye's is even covered up by Jets and Spikes voices, thats how you can tell they weren't flaunting or bragging about how cool of quotes they can make like other anime's or movies do, making the whole movie or anime memorable because of one quote and relying on that is sad. Cowboy Bebop was extraordinarily special. Its like everybody at the studio was passionate about this and they all had amazing ideas and details about the show coming in every single day. Fucking love this show, got the box set and it hasnt gone off my television since Christmas.
I remember watching this when it aired on Cartoon Network, then binge watching the episodes with my mom when Netflix was in it's infancy and you would have to wait for the DVDs in the mail. This show will always be close to my heart as it was one of the best series I ever had the pleasure of watching. The movie, in my opinion, was a fitting ending to the series as well. My mom is gone now. Died of lung cancer 6 years ago. So this show will always be special to me. It was one of the few shows where the dubbing was actually high quality, and every song was memorable. I... want to buy the series when I can, to rewatch it with my children. Share something with them that I shared with my mom.
I had just graduated High School and moved from CA to Dallas, TX for a job. I was almost 2000 miles away from everyone I knew, but I found a little mom 'n pop video rental place that specialized in anime and I was in there so often that the literal mom and pop running the place pretty much became my figurative ones. I eventually burned through nearly their entire library, but every third or fourth rental would just be repeatedly getting a Cowboy Bebop disc, to go along with whatever else I was binging at the time.
here it is ten years after this song has been uploaded to UA-cam, I've been listening to it off and on, from time to time, but I never thought that my life would get to this point. It's just been a huge bucket of crap, but at least the monsoon is here. Thank you for sharing this. The mood is absolutely perfect because things'll never get better now. One way out. Make it mean something good if you can.
Tim Beck I know right. And my balls were all swollen they turned to a color that I like to call "grapple shablagoo!" It was like a color from a whole other spectrum. You'd have to see it to beleive it.
"The days feel just like moments turned to hours." God that's a masterful line. Every single hour feels like a year to me, they drudge by in a boring progression that feels like an eternity. But when I look back, they passed in a flash just like that.
Personally, I like both versions equally in their own way. Of course, this was the version we watch to the anime, so it definitely carries feeling. Especially because the female version sounds more sorrowful and quiet; Spike's emotions are this way too. He doesn't make his feelings apparent, even to himself, but they're there. And the male version on the album I think is also brilliant. It sounds so much more passionate and pained, which is how I've always loved to sing it when I'm singing alone for fun. I've always loved songs wherein the singer sings their throat out like that, like how The Real Folk Blues is sung. I think that that's also good in the ways of the show, because it expresses the actual pain inside of the characters that they don't even entirely know of themselves.
I can't think of a better song to contemplate deep and emotional stories than this. Hell, I've been sitting here for maybe a half hour just listening to it over and over. That's how good this song is. I know I should probably move on to something else and focus on that, but I really don't want to lose this feeling I have going. Damn you Bebop for having such awesome music!
I made my Cowboy Bebop music video around that quote. I used the Phil Collins version of "Golden Slumbers" because it's not as well known as the original.
I Think Steve Conte is a great great singer( i adore "Call me, Call me") ....but ,me too, i Think this version it's better, infact it was in the Episode " Ballad of fallen Angels", Btw my fav Episode!! Ciao, greetings from Italy
Seriously. Sometimes I feel alone in my genuine emotional response to the music from this show, then I read comments like these and I realize I'm not alone in that at all. I have a friend who watched this episode just for this scene. It's a masterpiece of visual storytelling.
Spike: Uh, listen Jet. You said "bell peppers and beef." There's no beef in here. So you wouldn't really call it "bell peppers and beef," now would you? Jet: Yes, I would. Spike: Well, it's *not*! Jet: It is when you're broke!
This lady has such a great voice. I love this song period but for me no one captures it better than she does. She has the perfect voice for such an emotional song.
Cowboy Bebop is by far my most favorite anime, and this is song (especially this version. I can't listen to the entire male version) is one of my most favorite songs. It's a lot like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, because you can feel such a deep sadness through it, yet it's beautiful & bitter-sweet. Thank you so much for uploading this, I haven't heard it in four or five years.
_This_ was the episode that pulled me into Cowboy Bebop. Until Ballad of Fallen Angels I was half-watching CB on adult swim but wasn't super into it... After this episode: "This show is AMAZING. I need to see it all." While in bed with Covid last week I watched the entire season for the... Well, actually I've lost count of how many times I've watched Cowboy Bebop from start to finish 🤷🏻♀️. It's one of my favorite comfort shows when I'm depressed or not feeling well. I'm so glad certain things about music have changed since my first viewing: finding this soundtrack back then was impossible! Maybe not for some, but as a teenager living in Hawai'i my ability to find reliable sources for less mainstream music was _severely_ limited. Now (at 40) I can open YT and hear every CB song AND every version of those songs! The world may be falling apart... And yet for music lovers: it's a great time to be alive. Additionally (yes, I know this comments is already long and meandering, I blame my residual Covid brain fog), my Dad is in full agreement regarding the ease of finding music. He's 74. There were songs he'd heard and loved when he was younger and he assumed he'd _never_ hear them again. It certainly seemed that way for a while... Recently (on multiple occasions) he's told me "I remembered a song I heard in college and hadn't been able to hear since. I typed it into the search thinking 'There's no way I'll find it' and... there it was!" I'm glad he's lived long enough to have all the music he loves at his fingertips. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's a blessing.
"Rain," the song which plays as Spike enters the cathedral in episode 5 ("Ballad of Fallen Angels") was originally recorded with Steve Conte as the vocalist, but ultimately, a demo version sung by Mai Yamane was chosen for the scene. The Steve Conte version appears on the series' first soundtrack album, while the Mai Yamane version was included as a bonus track on the soundtrack of the film "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door."
Thank you so much for adding this. I just watched the episode, this song was in, "Ballad of Fallen Angels" for the thousandth time and I FINALLY thought to look forthe song on here and now I have it! I'm so delighted that I can hear this song whenever I want. There's something very haunting and enchanting about the melody and its lyrics. And the fact that this was in Cowboy Bebop, which was one of the best Anime series of all time makes me love it even more!
its 2023 Nov. Still listening to the soundtrack. puts me in a really good mood. i train jiujitsu and when I role, i feel like it gives you an extra jump in energy . have you guys wantched the movie. I recommend it.
Glad someone picked up my idea, thank you. It's not precisely what I had in mind, though... I had envisioned the two of them singing back & forth to each other, by alternating between the two tracks, with occasional unison. Nice work, anyway.
Steve Blum is honestly one of the best voice actors alive. if you can play the role of the suave hero (Spike) the role of the cold, determined, intimidating villain (Amon) and the role of a cute childish creature with a limited grasp of english (Guilmon) then you deserve major props for versatility alone.
Never heard the female vocal version before, very nice. Great song, always felt it was a testament of enduring the inevitable hardships of life we all face. The pipe organ sets the mood perfectly.

When angels are throw out of heaven they become demons you agree don't you Spike?
I'm just watching a bad dream I can never wake up from
+Tim Beck
I'll wake you up right now.

Are you begging for your life?
+Arthur Yagami Hardly, pleading doesn't work you, remember? Even if it comes from the one who brought you are and made you who you are.
Just finished all 26 episodes yesterday.
I really feel like I'm carrying that weight
Give it a slow rewatch, it gets even better once you catch all the details.
Finished it. Loved it. I miss it already
@@With_Great_Power863 try samurai champloo is from the same creator and is really cool too , 24 episodes too.. i love both 🙏
watched the movie from 2001 ?
@@45_dhruvpandya20 does the movie take place before or after the events of episode 26?
here it is ten years after this song has been uploaded to UA-cam, I've been listening to it off and on, from time to time, but I never thought that my life would get to this point. It's just been a huge bucket of crap, but at least the monsoon is here. Thank you for sharing this. The mood is absolutely perfect because things'll never get better now. One way out. Make it mean something good if you can.
This theme makes me want to re watch this masterpiece of an anime sometime soon.

>the year of our lord 2000+14
>misreading youtube comment
It's mandatory to watch this at least once a year.
If there is a hell, I'm sure this is how it smells.
If there is a heaven, I'm sure this is how it sounds.
This anime just has that larger and greater than life feeling thanks to the characters and the music, this and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Bebop, Eva, and Deathnote are the only amines I consider to be truly perfect
+Tim Beck and the last half of deathnote comes close to ruining the whole series
I did that on purpose I was curious to see if anyone would say exactly what you just did. My real 3rd is Code Geass
4 days? The fucks wrong with you? You gotta do it at least twice a day
Tim Beck I know right.
I like the female version better.
Agreed. It has a more gospel feel to it.
Yes! Like Stephen says it has a gospel feel; it worked amazing because the scene was in a church, and made it feel so surreal... it was so perfect.
me too
why is the dude version on the actual soundtrack when this is what played in the show?
me too.
I can't think of a better song to contemplate deep and emotional stories than this. Hell, I've been sitting here for maybe a half hour just listening to it over and over. That's how good this song is.
I know I should probably move on to something else and focus on that, but I really don't want to lose this feeling I have going. Damn you Bebop for having such awesome music!
you're gonna have to carry all that weight, see you. . . space cowboy . . . . .
Oh god the feels... T_T
I made my Cowboy Bebop music video around that quote. I used the Phil Collins version of "Golden Slumbers" because it's not as well known as the original.
Bang...
one of my favorite songs, very powerful
what an amazingly powerful song.
The female vocal version is better, no offense to Steve Conte
100% agree. She got a deeper voice. She sings from her heart for the hearts...
Well, her voice is something of a tough act to follow. I think Steve did his best.
it's also more fitting for a gospel song, since the fight takes place in a church.
I Think Steve Conte is a great great singer( i adore "Call me, Call me") ....but ,me too, i Think this version it's better, infact it was in the Episode " Ballad of fallen Angels", Btw my fav Episode!! Ciao, greetings from Italy
Yes your right about that
Cowboy Bebop has an amazing way to bring out the best scenes out of the music they use. A perfect piece of art.
Seriously. Sometimes I feel alone in my genuine emotional response to the music from this show, then I read comments like these and I realize I'm not alone in that at all. I have a friend who watched this episode just for this scene. It's a masterpiece of visual storytelling.
If you want to buy this version on iTunes, it's the "Demo" version that's found on the soundtrack to "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."
Spike: Uh, listen Jet. You said "bell peppers and beef." There's no beef in here. So you wouldn't really call it "bell peppers and beef," now would you?
Jet: Yes, I would.
Spike: Well, it's *not*!
Jet: It is when you're broke!
The church organ makes this piece all the more poignant.
Thanks so much, this song was stuck in my head. One of my favorites from the show, I'm rewatching the series this month.
I just had to find this song... seems ages since I watched Bebop. brings memories of the time when I watched... a masterpiece it was.
Welcome back space cowboy.
I just stumbled upon a Bebop clip and searched down this and Green Bird immediately, ahh nostalgia.
***** Seriously!
So happy they used a sample of this song in the netflix teaser
This whole show makes me really want to live till 2071
Only 57 years to go!
Isnt the anime ambiented in the year +5000?
Just 6 years before the great war
December storm...and I'm a patrolling security guard...I'm living this song right now
Poignant, to the very core. Love this series with every fiber, love this song equally. Go out with a bang...
This lady has such a great voice. I love this song period but for me no one captures it better than she does. She has the perfect voice for such an emotional song.
"The blood of the beast who wonders... hunting for the blood of others."
"I've bled all that blood away."
"Then why are you STILL ALIVE?!"
SLASH-BANG!
Wanders
Cowboy Bebop is by far my most favorite anime, and this is song (especially this version. I can't listen to the entire male version) is one of my most favorite songs. It's a lot like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, because you can feel such a deep sadness through it, yet it's beautiful & bitter-sweet. Thank you so much for uploading this, I haven't heard it in four or five years.
It's just a dream.
Most epic masterpiece sci-fi noir in the history of humanity.
Oh wow... I haven't heard this song in so long. Still brings back great memories. Thank you so much for uploading!
the guitar solo is legend
This song is so beautiful it gives me chills. Just love the lyrics.
Still gives me chills....
haha same here. and i havent listened to my ost SINCE 2003
_This_ was the episode that pulled me into Cowboy Bebop. Until Ballad of Fallen Angels I was half-watching CB on adult swim but wasn't super into it...
After this episode: "This show is AMAZING. I need to see it all."
While in bed with Covid last week I watched the entire season for the...
I typed it into the search thinking 'There's no way I'll find it' and... there it was!"
I'm glad he's lived long enough to have all the music he loves at his fingertips. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's a blessing.

By far the greatest masterpiece of motion picture, sound and storyboard. Got still a tear in my eye after all these years.
To a fellow rider, flying on a tiny rock through space, I hear your pain. In the rain. You’re not quite alone.
Honestly both this and the male version are fantastic renditions of a fantastic song.
En verdad que queda perfecta así! Gran acierto. Debió ser ocupada en la serie esta versión.
Esta versión es la que se usa en la serie
its 2023 Nov. Still listening to the soundtrack. puts me in a really good mood. i train jiujitsu and when I role, i feel like it gives you an extra jump in energy . have you guys wantched the movie. I recommend it.
Basically best show I've ever watched.
Just finished this Amazing series. Just love it ! One of the best series ever 🙌 Period !
Best animation of all time. Not just the best japanime.
I love this version. Thank you for posting.
The music from this anime is so awesome!
Matter a fact this anime was AMAZING to!!
Glad someone picked up my idea, thank you. It's not precisely what I had in mind, though... I had envisioned the two of them singing back & forth to each other, by alternating between the two tracks, with occasional unison. Nice work, anyway.
2019, and a lot of us still carrying that weight...
See you, cowgirl. Someday. Somewhere!
Today I turn in the 2 weeks notice for job I am greatly dissatisfied with, it is raining and dark, and i'm listening to this as I walk in.
Love this
Thank you for posting this... This version is my favorite ❣️💙💜🖤💚
Love the female version of rain.
This song is stunning. Just discovered Cowboy Bebop, finally...had to rewind that scene multiple times cuz of this song. Gorgeous, powerful.
Steve Blum is honestly one of the best voice actors alive.
if you can play the role of the suave hero (Spike)
the role of the cold, determined, intimidating villain (Amon)
and the role of a cute childish creature with a limited grasp of english (Guilmon)
then you deserve major props for versatility alone.
Never heard the female vocal version before, very nice. Great song, always felt it was a testament of enduring the inevitable hardships of life we all face. The pipe organ sets the mood perfectly.
but this is the one playing during the episode, is it not?
I don't feel a thing
And I stop remembering
The days are just like moments turned to hours
Mother used to say
If you want, you'll find a way
But mother never danced through fire shower
Walk in the rain
In the rain, in the rain
I walk in the rain, in the rain
Is it right or is it wrong
And is it here that I belong
I don't hear a sound
Silent faces in the ground
A quiet screams, but I refuse to listen
If there is a hell
I'm sure this is how it smells
Wish this were a dream, but no, it isn't
Walk in the rain
In the rain, in the rain
I walk in the rain, in the rain
Am I right or am I wrong
And is it here that I belong
Walk in the rain
In the rain, in the rain
I walk in the rain, in the rain
Why do I feel so alone
For some reason I think of home
This song came on Spotify but it was by Rayzd with a section of rap added to it. Had to hear this version to confirm what I thought it was. Thanks uploader
Bless. I hate that cover. Sorry Rayzd... Your tonality is lacking. This, however, is beautiful and moving. I love this song.
On the other topic, why the frak does Spotify have so many covers...?
DestructoPop
Because they can't the real thing sometimes.
DestructoPop tech n9ne does The Rain ..which uses this song too...i like it...you might like it too
XxOSTONEBENOTSOxX Thanks mate!
Dying is easy/. But living is the true challenge of life. Spike is just the goat for realizing it.
The male version is very good but THIS is the only version that matters.
Beautifully poetic 🌹
First of all i Apologize for my english!! What really surprise, amaze me, of this stunning Anime ,it's not that CB is the best Anime and it has best OST ever! It's how deep, wonderful ,meaningful are the comments of the fans. I love to read the comments ,in every CB video i watch!! These are Cowboy bebop fans....Amazing!! Ciao ,greetings from Italy
I've looked for this version for a long time.
👼👼Cowboy Bebop fans catch hella nostalgia from this track. Ballad of Fallen Angels epic episode.
Thanks a bunch man, I'll check it out.
Vicious "Like this".
beautiful
When angels are forced out of heaven they become devils iconic vicious line this version of this song brings me right back to my childhood god I miss the 90s. Plus that 🎸 at 2:06 is beyond beautiful beyond smooth it is out of this world and magical.
Despite having only twenty six episodes this show will live on forever
"When angels are forced out of Heaven, they are forced to become devils. Don't you agree, Spike?"
"I'm just watching a bad dream I never wake up from"
Taylor Currey Ill wake you up right now.
"What's your rush, Vicious? After all, it's been a long time."
**Chuckles** "Are you pleading for your life?"
@@mr808kingz Hardly. Begging doesn't work on you, remember? Even if it's coming from the man who took you in and made you what you are.
I always loved this song and the anime. Cowboy Bebop is one of the best anime's ever.
Essa música toca a alma, sensacional.
