I once heard a reviewer state why this anime sticks with so many people: "Most anime plots revolve around young people finding themselves or coming of age. Cowboy Bebop is specifically about what comes after that."
I'd say it's a bit more complicated than that. It's a story about a man who desperately wants to prove to himself that he's still alive inside, and finds his answer all too late.
I feel like the point was that Ed had outgrown that home. She was less chasing her dad than starting her own journey. Everybody on the ship grew in that way, except for Spike. Always one foot/eye in the grave/past. :)

What alot of people fail to understand, is that Spike was dead before the series started, he knew this, and his entire existence in the show was his final lesson, to, above all else, pursue that which makes you feel real, because if you dont, you will fade away and spend your whole life in lost memories, spike was too late, his life was gone when he joined the syndicate, so he spent the whole series back tracking to find piece, but you and I, we have today, we have now, theres still time to live, and find happiness, pursue what makes you feel real, the things that make you happy and dont leave things in the fridge or you'll carry that weight, learn spikes lesson to all of us.

My theory is that when "The real folks blues" started playing when he took off in the swordfish it was time for his death, the theory is because we saw the SAME exact scene of him taking off in the swordfish various times when his life was in serious trouble, ex: Mad Mad Perriot.

The problem with that scene is that is the same one as the one of ed leaving, so both things plus the music makes it one of the best scenes in anime period
The beauty of this song is that it represents the great divide between Spike and everyone he knows. Not just Julia, but also Vicious, Faye, Jet, and Ed. He struggles to find peace, but realizes that it has a cost since we can't expect what we desire.
I finished it some days ago. Such a pity I didn't watch it long ago, but I think I wouldn't have understand the message when I was younger. You need to live some things in person before you can fully understand Spike, Jet, Faye, or even Ed.
And yet,it kicks the crap out of most new animes .. the way they made bebop was legendary!! all I can say is that bebop and the original Astro boy are the definition of how anime should be done!!

there is something so incredibly psychological that Shinichiro Watanabe does with this episode that most of us miss (yes i teared up big time too). But, Faye was the only one that really figured it out. Your past will always be YOUR PAST. You can't go back to it; it's knowing that our future can be better than our beginning once we embrace it. (forgive me if I'm reading to much into this).
Agree 100%, but that doesn't make it that easy to discard your past. Which is why it ends with "You are going to carry that weight". It will always weigh on you, no matter how much you carry on.
In Session 1, Laughing Bull foretells of Spike's death being brought on by a woman. Laughing Bull: Swimming bird will meet a woman. The bird will be hunted by this woman. And then death. Spike: One more time. Laughing Bull: What's that? Spike: I was killed once before by a woman. Spike is speaking of Julia. Losing her love was so painful as to be considered a form of death. He was left in a detached dream-like purgatory from that day on. In Session 26, Julia is shot in front of Spike. White doves fly by in slow motion. Horror, shock, and agony are expressed in Spike's left eye. He screams her name, drops his weapon, and runs to her. He takes her in his arms. Hears her last words, which are inaudible to the audience. Spike looks down at his lost love and then up to the sky. The camera is now focused on Spike's right eye, which is shaking in a disturbing manner. The camera zooms into Spike's pupil and everything fades to black. The next scene is of Laughing Bull predicting Spike's imminent death. Holding Julia's coat, Vicious speaks of Spike. Vicious: A beast that has lost his place. He has nowhere to return to now. He will come. Vicious is both right and wrong. Spike will come, but he does have somewhere to return to one last time. Two rose petals are shown blowing away in the wind. Spike returns to the Bebop and tells Jet a story. An allegory about his life which he uses to explain why he will never return. Spike: There once was a tiger striped cat. This cat died a million deaths, revived and lived a million lives, and he was owned by various people who he didn't really care for. The cat wasn't afraid to die. Then one day the cat became a stray cat, which meant he was free. He met a white female cat, and the two of them spent their days together happily. Jet is keenly aware that Spike's death looms in the horizon. He is wary of the tale's implications. When Spike gets up to leave, Jet asks him one last question. Jet: Is it for the girl? Spike: [beat] She's dead. There's nothing I can do for her now. This is true. Julia is dead. There is nothing Spike can do for her. This does not lessen the impact she has on the events that are about to unfold. Jet understands this. Upon hearing of Julia's death, he has a resigned if devastated reaction. He knows exactly what this means for Spike. Faye confronts Spike while holding him at gunpoint. She knows that he is marching towards his death. Faye: Where are you going? Why, are you going? You told me once, to forget the past, ‘cause it doesn’t matter, but you’re the one still tied to the past, Spike! Spike does not deny this. Instead, he explains the truth about his eyes. The camera spans from his left eye to his right eye. Spike: Look at my eyes, Faye. One of them is a fake because I lost it in an accident. Since then, I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So, I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture. Before I knew it, the dream was all over. This is not the first time Spike has expressed this sentiment. One of his most revelatory quotes was said in the teaser for Ballad of Fallen Angels. Spike: The music box is broken, or is it? It starts to play, and a haunting tune fills the air. I wake suddenly from my dream. There is no music box! And yet there it is. Spike ignores her please and instead leaves her with these parting words. Spike: I’m not going there to die; I’m going to find out if I’m really alive. I have to do it, Faye. Faye is not comforted by this statement. The audience should not be comforted either. Spike's words eerily echo what Jet said to him in session 25. Jet: Men only think about the past right before their death, as if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive. Faye cries and shoots off her gun. An act reminiscent of the 21-gun salute that is used in the military to honor the fallen. Spike walks away from Faye without looking back. He is never shown thinking about anyone from the Bebop again. The song "See You Space Cowboy" plays as Spike leaves the Bebop. The camera zooms in on Spike's left eye. The eye that sees Spike's past. The lyrics begin as Spike is recalling romantic memories of Julia. Given that Spike confided to Jet just the previous session that Julia was a part of him, the image shows a moment in Spike's life when he felt whole. Spike: She was a piece of me I had lost. She is my other half that I had longed for. The song continues to play as Spike attacks the syndicate. It is a ballad of undying love alluding to lovers being reunited in the afterlife. When Spike faces off against his hated rival, Vicious makes a proclamation. Vicious: So, you're finally awake. I told you before, Spike. I'm the only one who can kill you and set you free. Spike does not deny this. But makes a proclamation of his own. Spike: Those words apply to you as well, Vicious. During their fight, there comes a moment where the two disarm each other by swapping weapons. Vicious getting Spike's gun and Spike getting Vicious's katana. It is at this moment that Spike makes a statement of great significance to both men. Spike: Julia passed away. Let's end it all. Vicious: If that's your wish. The rivals return their weapons. Spike shoots Vicious but gets sliced across the abdomen. Vicious's death comes quickly, while Spike lingers as was foreshadowed. Vicious: Don't forget, a snake's venom poisons slowly after the bite. Spike watches Vicious's body fall to the ground, spends but a few of seconds looking at him, then looks up to the night's sky. The camera is focused on Spike's right eye. Now calm. Spike sees Julia. This is the first time in the entire series that Spike is shown seeing Julia with his right eye. In session 13, during an auditory flashback, Spike and Julia discuss his eyes. Spike: My left eye sees the past. Julia: What about your right eye? We do not hear his response. In the penultimate scene of the series, we are specifically shown what Spike sees with his eye that sees his present. He sees her. In Spike's vision, Julia is cast in a white light. She says her last words to Spike, this time they are audible to the audience. Spike is shown reflected back in Julia's eye. He glumly concurs with her. Spike is then completely engulfed by a blinding white light. The scene fades to white. This light is reminiscent of the divine light that is cast upon a soul that is ready to ascend to heaven. Julia: It's all a dream. Spike: Yeah. Just a bad dream. From white we transition to the final scene of the series. It is now day. A white light is now cast over the entire syndicate. Spike smiles, points a finger gun at the remaining syndicate goons and says "bang". This is a callback to Wen from session 6. As Wen was dying he asked Spike if he understood the relief that came with one's own death. In response, Spike threw Wen's harmonica up in the air, pretended to shoot it while saying "bang", but then said "as if". When Spike says "bang" this time he is acknowledging that he now understands that relief. Spike falls to the ground. He is never shown moving again. White doves are shown flying over Spike's body. White doves also flew by Julia when she died. The camera follows an ascension into the heavens, while the song "Blue" plays. The song's lyrics allude to a soul ascending to heaven. Free Wanna be free Gonna be free And move among the stars You know, they really aren't so far Feels so free Gotta know free Please Don't wake me from the dream It's really everything it seems I'm so free No black and white in the blue Everything is clearer now Life is just a dream, you know That's never-ending I'm ascending At the end of the credits a star goes out but never falls. In session 13, Laughing Bull informs the audience to what a falling star truly is. Laughing Bull: The tear of a warrior. A lost soul who has finished his battle. A pitiful soul who could not find his way to the lofty realm. Where the great spirit awaits us all. Given that the star we are shown does not fall, it is reasonable to infer that the soul the star belonged to did make its way to the great spirit that awaits us all. That soul has broken away from the cycle of death and rebirth and is never coming back. As was foreshadowed to happen to Spike in the fable of the tiger striped cat, who followed his love into death and never returned.
I've seen a lot of coments of people saying "This will make you cry" in anime generic as hell, and i thought "What a bunch of cowards". I'd use to think that maybe i was too cold. But then Cowboy Bebop shows up and this chapter (not even the final chapter) makes me cry like a little girl. And that not happen often. A few animes touch me in that way. I'll never regret having seen this anime, one of the greates, and one of my favorites anime.

well, i didnt cry on my first watch through, way back in the day. But i recently started watching it over again, and the feels get to me. I guess its something to do with life experience. If your younger and watch it you cant really fully identify with the characters. but the older i get, the more i 'get' it, and it has an impact.
this show hits deep, it's solid. never did I cry like a baby but I felt the deepest most suppressed man tears I've ever had at the end of the show. you know it's good when every episode even binge watching it you have to sit through the end credits to take it all in.
In this instance, it was cowgirl, someday, somewhere. I kept thinking there'd be a future glimpse of Ed, now in Spike's place, with the same hair style! Still wild, with a tad cooler demeanor that came with age. SLIGHTLY used, ever so lightly. She duel wields like crazy in her goggles, covered in her tech and now bandolier. An infamous bounty hunter. There ought to be a show for her now to bring back the Bebop. I watched every episode on Kissanime, and I had to look away every time I saw how much closer to 26 I was then before. Never wanted it to end, because I knew there'd never be another quite like it. Not even Lupin III or Dandy.
It's simple, yet so complex. It's a story about a man who did a lot of wrong in his life, and when he fell in love he wanted out, but he couldn't bring her with him. He tried to escape his past and do right by the world while finding a place for himself,all the while desperately trying to prove to himself that he wasn't dead inside. Enter Jet, Ein, Faye, and Ed. He didn't realize it but they were that proof, and when Faye, Ed, and Ein left they took that life with them. Then his past suddenly came roaring into the present, destroying any future he might have had.
Spike told Jet that Julia is his other half. He never felt that way about Jet/Faye/Ed/Ein. Only about Julia. That is why he walks away from the Bebop without looking back, yet never stops thinking about his beloved.
Cowboy bebop is legendary, period. The philosophy of the main characters desperately trying to survive their past. Everyone with their feelings, everyone with their memories, everyone with their attitudes.
If while you hear this song, theres great pain in your heart. You're not alone, we are with you now, tomorrow and always. You know who you are and we know who we are. The ones who stay awake at night finding things so they can feel. Crying alone because it feels somewhat better. You are good also, you will find happiness and fulfillment. You are loved and cherished, and if no one has said this to you today, I love you and you matter to me.

agreed, children would be bored with it. teens would think the action parts are cool but not "get" it. 25ish is the perfect age imo. enough life experience to understand most of what the characters feel, but not too old to be completely closed minded to animation.
Meh, maybe your underestimating us "children" :) I was and am still far from 25 and I definitely could enjoy the show for more than the action. I guess it depends on the person though. i remember watching this show for the first time back in 2003 ,i was 13 -12 years old ,and it used to be friday afternoon ,came back from high school and watched it ....my mother used to cook lunch ,and my brother was on his pc playing / doing some stuff....2 years ago my brother passed ,still feels like it was yesterday ,and this show and its amazing ost always brings tears to my eyes ,remembering that time ....
At the end of every episode, I got chills when "See you, Space Cowboy" popped up because it's like you know you will see Spike and everyone again. They'll never just disappear.

Watched this many years ago and still have very strong feelings about this series. I hear this song and it takes me back. Wolfs Reign/Rain makes me feel the same way. There will never be animes that touch my heart like these two.

This didn't use to be my favorite anime. But it is now. There is no other anime I relate to so closely. It's always been one of the best in my book. But now I actually get it. Now I truly understand Spike. And I think this song is unabashedly true to the feeling/mood/color of the show.
This song reminds me of a girl I loved during high school. We talked about how after we graduated we'd both rent an apartment making ends meat while trying to enjoy life (we were both terrible at school). I moved away and when the phone at my new home was set up I tried to call her only to find out it her's was disconnected. Now I'm just a guy living in an apartment barely making ends meat and reminiscing on the life I could've had. I don't know what happened to her, but I hope she's happy.
It makes me think of crowded house's: Don't dream its over. Mostly because the "Call me, call me" makes me think of, "Hey now, hey now". But I do hear bittersweet symphony in there.
heres a fun fact someone might be interested in: there is a lot of symbolism around roses in this anime and I've deduced that they all have the same exact meaning because they are all portrayed in the same way: usually either single, or in a bouquet, but ALWAYS closed and never bloomed. also, only red. so in nerdy plant language, giving someone a rose that isnt in bloom is usually a sign of love lost. the depth in this anime is so deep that even the roses mean something, Spike doesn't have anymore love to give after losing Julia before the series starts. even when he sees her again, its bittersweet, he knows they can never be together.

the 90's was the era of the anime , Good stories , Great animation , Awesome music , great designs . The anime was very influenced by the american movies , so it was mature and close to the reality , Cowboy bepop , Slam dunk , wolf's rain ... ( Even hunter x hunter 1999 animation was awesome ) just epic man ! and Now we are with those childish, coulourful and shiny anime
that is hard to say as you have Blade Runner and other movies but you also have to remember that Bebop had its influences from things such as Lupin which was taken from Pink Panther. I would like to think of it more as a snapshot of a Renaissance like time for world culture from the late 90s.
its a shame something like this only comes around once in a lifetime.there will never be another anime like this EVER. the music,the story, and they made you care about the characters, in my opinion I hope they don't make a live action movie. years from now they will still talk about the greatest anime to ever grace the television screen. -you're gonna carry that weight-

Interesting and unique characters are something that can be created in any manga or anime as well depending on the author's creativity and will . What OP is saying here is that you don't need hundreds or thousands of episodes to be able to tell a good story...it can be done in 60 , 40 , 20 or in 1 episode too. In the end it's a choice that depends on the author and there's no real better or worse choice. One person preferred to tell its story by writing down 500 pages , someone else by writing down 80 ; whether it's a good or a bad story only depends on how they write it , you can write hundreds of bad pages while someone else writes a few amazing ones...or you can write hundreds of amazing ones while some other dude writes a few awful ones . Only time will tell whether your work was a good one or not .

I almost can't listen to this song; Ed leaving the Bebop crew was easily the saddest part of a show that knew how to invoke the feels.

In Session 1, Laughing Bull foretells of Spike's death being brought on by a woman.
Laughing Bull: Swimming bird will meet a woman. The bird will be hunted by this woman. And then death.
Spike: One more time.
Laughing Bull: What's that?
Spike: I was killed once before by a woman.
Spike is speaking of Julia. Losing her love was so painful as to be considered a form of death. He was left in a detached dream-like purgatory from that day on.
In Session 26, Julia is shot in front of Spike. White doves fly by in slow motion. Horror, shock, and agony are expressed in Spike's left eye. He screams her name, drops his weapon, and runs to her. He takes her in his arms. Hears her last words, which are inaudible to the audience.
Spike looks down at his lost love and then up to the sky. The camera is now focused on Spike's right eye, which is shaking in a disturbing manner. The camera zooms into Spike's pupil and everything fades to black.
The next scene is of Laughing Bull predicting Spike's imminent death.
Holding Julia's coat, Vicious speaks of Spike.
Vicious: A beast that has lost his place. He has nowhere to return to now. He will come.
Vicious is both right and wrong. Spike will come, but he does have somewhere to return to one last time.
Two rose petals are shown blowing away in the wind.
Spike returns to the Bebop and tells Jet a story. An allegory about his life which he uses to explain why he will never return.
Spike: There once was a tiger striped cat. This cat died a million deaths, revived and lived a million lives, and he was owned by various people who he didn't really care for. The cat wasn't afraid to die. Then one day the cat became a stray cat, which meant he was free. He met a white female cat, and the two of them spent their days together happily. Well, years passed, and the white cat grew weak and died of old age. The tiger striped cat cried a million times, and then he died too. Except this time, he didn't come back to life.
Jet is keenly aware that Spike's death looms in the horizon. He is wary of the tale's implications.
When Spike gets up to leave, Jet asks him one last question.
Jet: Is it for the girl?
Spike: [beat] She's dead. There's nothing I can do for her now.
This is true. Julia is dead. There is nothing Spike can do for her. This does not lessen the impact she has on the events that are about to unfold. Jet understands this. Upon hearing of Julia's death, he has a resigned if devastated reaction. He knows exactly what this means for Spike.
Faye confronts Spike while holding him at gunpoint. She knows that he is marching towards his death.
Faye: Where are you going? Why, are you going? You told me once, to forget the past, ‘cause it doesn’t matter, but you’re the one still tied to the past, Spike!
Spike does not deny this. Instead, he explains the truth about his eyes. The camera spans from his left eye to his right eye.
Spike: Look at my eyes, Faye. One of them is a fake because I lost it in an accident. Since then, I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So, I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture.
Faye: Don’t tell me things like that; you’ve never told me anything about yourself, so don’t tell me now!
Spike: I felt like I was watching a dream I could never wake up from. Before I knew it, the dream was all over.
This is not the first time Spike has expressed this sentiment. One of his most revelatory quotes was said in the teaser for Ballad of Fallen Angels.
Spike: The music box is broken, or is it? It starts to play, and a haunting tune fills the air. I wake suddenly from my dream. There is no music box! And yet there it is. A tiny one nestled in my hand. And I awaken from my dream again. As if I were peeling an onion. It’s a dream no matter how far I go. I can never reach reality. Trapped in an endless nightmare.
Spike is so affected by the loss of the woman he loves that even an item she once possessed haunts him. It is her death that has finally woken him from his detached dream-like state.
Faye shares with Spike that her memory has returned. She explains that there was nowhere for her to go back to. She pleads with him to stay.
Spike ignores her please and instead leaves her with these parting words.
Spike: I’m not going there to die; I’m going to find out if I’m really alive. I have to do it, Faye.
Faye is not comforted by this statement. The audience should not be comforted either. Spike's words eerily echo what Jet said to him in session 25.
Jet: Men only think about the past right before their death, as if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive.
Faye cries and shoots off her gun. An act reminiscent of the 21-gun salute that is used in the military to honor the fallen.
Spike walks away from Faye without looking back. He is never shown thinking about anyone from the Bebop again.
The song "See You Space Cowboy" plays as Spike leaves the Bebop.

The camera zooms in on Spike's left eye. The eye that sees Spike's past. The lyrics begin as Spike is recalling romantic memories of Julia. He thinks of the first time he saw Julia and was captivated by her beauty. He thinks of a time when he made love to Julia and she cradled him in her arms.
Given that Spike confided to Jet just the previous session that Julia was a part of him, the image shows a moment in Spike's life when he felt whole.
Spike: She was a piece of me I had lost. She is my other half that I had longed for.
The song continues to play as Spike attacks the syndicate. It is a ballad of undying love alluding to lovers being reunited in the afterlife.
When Spike faces off against his hated rival, Vicious makes a proclamation.
Vicious: So, you're finally awake. I told you before, Spike. I'm the only one who can kill you and set you free.
Spike does not deny this. But makes a proclamation of his own.
Spike: Those words apply to you as well, Vicious.
During their fight, there comes a moment where the two disarm each other by swapping weapons. Vicious getting Spike's gun and Spike getting Vicious's katana. It is at this moment that Spike makes a statement of great significance to both men.
Spike: Julia passed away. Let's end it all.
Vicious: If that's your wish.
The rivals return their weapons. Spike shoots Vicious but gets sliced across the abdomen.
Vicious's death comes quickly, while Spike lingers as was foreshadowed.
Vicious: Don't forget, a snake's venom poisons slowly after the bite.
Spike watches Vicious's body fall to the ground, spends but a few of seconds looking at him, then looks up to the night's sky. The camera is focused on Spike's right eye. Now calm.
Spike sees Julia. This is the first time in the entire series that Spike is shown seeing Julia with his right eye.
In session 13, during an auditory flashback, Spike and Julia discuss his eyes.
Spike: My left eye sees the past.
Julia: What about your right eye?
We do not hear his response.
In the penultimate scene of the series, we are specifically shown what Spike sees with his eye that sees his present. He sees her.
In Spike's vision, Julia is cast in a white light. She says her last words to Spike, this time they are audible to the audience. Spike is shown reflected back in Julia's eye. He glumly concurs with her. Spike is then completely engulfed by a blinding white light. The scene fades to white. This light is reminiscent of the divine light that is cast upon a soul that is ready to ascend to heaven.
Julia: It's all a dream.
Spike: Yeah. Just a bad dream.
From white we transition to the final scene of the series. It is now day. A white light is now cast over the entire syndicate.
Spike smiles, points a finger gun at the remaining syndicate goons and says "bang".
This is a callback to Wen from session 6. As Wen was dying he asked Spike if he understood the relief that came with one's own death. In response, Spike threw Wen's harmonica up in the air, pretended to shoot it while saying "bang", but then said "as if". When Spike says "bang" this time he is acknowledging that he now understands that relief.
Spike falls to the ground. He is never shown moving again. White doves are shown flying over Spike's body. White doves also flew by Julia when she died.
The camera follows an ascension into the heavens, while the song "Blue" plays. The song's lyrics allude to a soul ascending to heaven.

At the end of the credits a star goes out but never falls.
In session 13, Laughing Bull informs the audience to what a falling star truly is.
Laughing Bull: The tear of a warrior. A lost soul who has finished his battle. A pitiful soul who could not find his way to the lofty realm. Where the great spirit awaits us all.
Given that the star we are shown does not fall, it is reasonable to infer that the soul the star belonged to did make its way to the great spirit that awaits us all.
That soul has broken away from the cycle of death and rebirth and is never coming back. As was foreshadowed to happen to Spike in the fable of the tiger striped cat, who followed his love into death and never returned.
It's amazing to see someone love this show enough to compile all these points here.

So underrated
I've seen a lot of coments of people saying "This will make you cry" in anime generic as hell, and i thought "What a bunch of cowards". I'd use to think that maybe i was too cold. But then Cowboy Bebop shows up and this chapter (not even the final chapter) makes me cry like a little girl. And that not happen often. A few animes touch me in that way. I'll never regret having seen this anime, one of the greates, and one of my favorites anime.

well, i didnt cry on my first watch through, way back in the day. But i recently started watching it over again, and the feels get to me. I guess its something to do with life experience. If your younger and watch it you cant really fully identify with the characters. but the older i get, the more i 'get' it, and it has an impact.
this show hits deep, it's solid. never did I cry like a baby but I felt the deepest most suppressed man tears I've ever had at the end of the show. you know it's good when every episode even binge watching it you have to sit through the end credits to take it all in.

In this instance, it was cowgirl, someday, somewhere. I kept thinking there'd be a future glimpse of Ed, now in Spike's place, with the same hair style! Still wild, with a tad cooler demeanor that came with age. SLIGHTLY used, ever so lightly. She duel wields like crazy in her goggles, covered in her tech and now bandolier. An infamous bounty hunter. There ought to be a show for her now to bring back the Bebop. I watched every episode on Kissanime, and I had to look away every time I saw how much closer to 26 I was then before. Never wanted it to end, because I knew there'd never be another quite like it. Not even Lupin III or Dandy.

It's simple, yet so complex. It's a story about a man who did a lot of wrong in his life, and when he fell in love he wanted out, but he couldn't bring her with him. He tried to escape his past and do right by the world while finding a place for himself,all the while desperately trying to prove to himself that he wasn't dead inside. Enter Jet, Ein, Faye, and Ed. He didn't realize it but they were that proof, and when Faye, Ed, and Ein left they took that life with them. Then his past suddenly came roaring into the present, destroying any future he might have had.
Spike told Jet that Julia is his other half. He never felt that way about Jet/Faye/Ed/Ein. Only about Julia. That is why he walks away from the Bebop without looking back, yet never stops thinking about his beloved.
Cowboy bebop is legendary, period. The philosophy of the main characters desperately trying to survive their past. Everyone with their feelings, everyone with their memories, everyone with their attitudes.
If while you hear this song, theres great pain in your heart. You're not alone, we are with you now, tomorrow and always. You know who you are and we know who we are. The ones who stay awake at night finding things so they can feel. Crying alone because it feels somewhat better. You are good also, you will find happiness and fulfillment. You are loved and cherished, and if no one has said this to you today, I love you and you matter to me.

i remember watching this show for the first time back in 2003 ,i was 13 -12 years old ,and it used to be friday afternoon ,came back from high school and watched it ....my mother used to cook lunch ,and my brother was on his pc playing / doing some stuff....2 years ago my brother passed ,still feels like it was yesterday ,and this show and its amazing ost always brings tears to my eyes ,remembering that time ....

Watched this many years ago and still have very strong feelings about this series. I hear this song and it takes me back. Wolfs Reign/Rain makes me feel the same way. There will never be animes that touch my heart like these two.

This didn't use to be my favorite anime. But it is now. There is no other anime I relate to so closely. It's always been one of the best in my book. But now I actually get it. Now I truly understand Spike. And I think this song is unabashedly true to the feeling/mood/color of the show.

This has to be one of the first AMV ever made.
This song reminds me of a girl I loved during high school. We talked about how after we graduated we'd both rent an apartment making ends meat while trying to enjoy life (we were both terrible at school). I moved away and when the phone at my new home was set up I tried to call her only to find out it her's was disconnected. Now I'm just a guy living in an apartment barely making ends meat and reminiscing on the life I could've had. I don't know what happened to her, but I hope she's happy.

there is a lot of symbolism around roses in this anime and I've deduced that they all have the same exact meaning because they are all portrayed in the same way: usually either single, or in a bouquet, but ALWAYS closed and never bloomed. also, only red.
so in nerdy plant language, giving someone a rose that isnt in bloom is usually a sign of love lost.
the depth in this anime is so deep that even the roses mean something, Spike doesn't have anymore love to give after losing Julia before the series starts. even when he sees her again, its bittersweet, he knows they can never be together.

The anime was very influenced by the american movies , so it was mature and close to the reality , Cowboy bepop , Slam dunk , wolf's rain ... ( Even hunter x hunter 1999 animation was awesome ) just epic man !

hardly any american movie could reach the height of cowboy bebop
that is hard to say as you have Blade Runner and other movies but you also have to remember that Bebop had its influences from things such as Lupin which was taken from Pink Panther. I would like to think of it more as a snapshot of a Renaissance like time for world culture from the late 90s.

Actually years 2005-2008 are the golden age of anime. Also there are still occasionally good anime today.

its a shame something like this only comes around once in a lifetime.there will never be another anime like this EVER. the music,the story, and they made you care about the characters, in my opinion I hope they don't make a live action movie. years from now they will still talk about the greatest anime to ever grace the television screen.

I’ve never had a show break my heart and keep it together at the same time like Cowboy Bebop. It’s such a one of a kind show that deserves even more praise than it already gets. It’s such an amazing experience and it really effected me and motivated me to move on from the past.

I was in awe and then I saw that this was uploaded 14 years ago and will turn 15 years old in 2021. Good to see Cowboy Bebop being the one there when UA-cam was in its early days.

The universe in which it took place was huge and could have been built much more than it was. Interesting and unique characters are something that can be created in any manga or anime as well depending on the author's creativity and will .
What OP is saying here is that you don't need hundreds or thousands of episodes to be able to tell a good story...it can be done in 60 , 40 , 20 or in 1 episode too.
In the end it's a choice that depends on the author and there's no real better or worse choice. One person preferred to tell its story by writing down 500 pages , someone else by writing down 80 ; whether it's a good or a bad story only depends on how they write it , you can write hundreds of bad pages while someone else writes a few amazing ones...or you can write hundreds of amazing ones while some other dude writes a few awful ones . Only time will tell whether your work was a good one or not .

@@kasumi2173 Cowboy Bepop left me wanting for more, even knowing the end was definitive. I think the hook is way more powerful that way, instead of dragging a product at the point of becoming tired of it.
