  • 2002 Big Bear 400 4x4 Green.
I needed a SMALL, 4x4, work-capable ATV. I was set on either a Honda or Yamaha.
An old Big Bear 400 popped up on marketplace with 441 miles on it. Listed for $2100 with a plow, it was solely used for plowing a small driveway and annual hunting trips. I negotiated to $1800 and truly got a creampuff condition ATV.
Building trails, bushwhacking, traversing logging cuts, and crossing over granite rock walls are common occurrences in my local terrain, and we lack any trails where speed would be usable. This machine fit the bill perfectly. Small dimensions are key to accessing these places, and modern day ATVs have become so large that it is a significant hindrance vs the older machines.
A full skid plate package, bark busters, and large aggressive tires finished the ATV build. I added an Apache case for carrying a day's gear and water/food. During work sessions, I simply strap a large feed bucket from tractor supply onto the back rack to haul chainsaw, gas, oil, loppers, and whatever else the day's trailwork involves.
Cant wait to own this ATV for 20yrs. They certainly don't make them like they used to.

I owned a big bear 400 about 10 years ago. I’ve been kicking myself ever since for selling it. I just recently picked up a 03 that is in excellent condition and I’m really excited about decking it out to suit my needs. I have a couple questions if you don’t mind. How did you mount that storage box up front and where did you buy your skid plates from? Thank you and great video!

@ ricochet makes the skid plates.
Underneath the Apache case there are U bolts holding it to the rack. Lot of people will just use self tapping screws and screw it right into the rack, others will have a quick release system.

@@Mtb-for-life406 Yes it's a foot shifter. It has a pull start backup for the E-start.
