The curly tail grub is my "go to" bait and I've caught a TON of fish with it in freshwater and saltwater too. I've learned a lot from your show, which I started watching once I got back to the US after being stationed 300 miles in the desert of Australia. Nothing to do there except read Bass Master and think of fishing! 🤣 I'll never forget how I learned from you to fish a creek/river confluence after a rain. I was watching your show way back about 1990 and it had rained the day before. I immediately got up, found a local creek that joined up with a river and caught more fish than I could count. And I caught them all on a white curly tail grub. THANK YOU sir, for all you've done over the years! 😎 I plan to go to the Tampa Bass Pro on March 11 and hope we get to see you there. 🙂
I really appreciate your comment! That's what we've always strived for here at BDO...that's educate and give you the tools to go try and catch'em when you can. Thanks for your service and I hope we get to meet in Tampa soon!
You can pretty much bet that any beginner rod kit will have grubs in the box, on another note, I wanna thank you sir for the laughter you brought my late father. Watching your bloopers made memories that I cherish to this day, he was a hard man, but you made him bust.😂
Great video Bill. The curly tail is definitely not unpopular with me. Hello from Canada. I just love grubs. Some of the things I like about them are, they are way easier to acquire and keep in good condition opposed to live bait. They work on pretty much every species of fish, you can imitate anything a fish eats with them by changing the colour and how you fish them, you can fish it in almost every way, lots of people don’t throw them so fish are typically not used to seeing them. They work scented or unscented if you have allergies or going into restricted waters. And they are usually pretty dang cheap.
I used to fish grubs all the time when I was a kid; throw it out and reel it in. Was pretty successful with it too. Nowadays I throw em on a spinnerbait or bladed jig as a trailer and they do well
Here in my home province in South Africa we fish the fat albert grub ALL THE TIME. Lots of grass in our dams so we fish soft plastics mostly weighless texas rigged and the grub along with some other soft plastics ALWAYS deliver fish! Great channel!!
Thanks for the comment! Isn't it great the reach of fishing has all over the world. I've never fished in South Africa but I've fished a Texas rig more times than I can count!
Been watching you for years Mister dance you know what I'd like to see is these new bass tournaments go back to old-school just one big tournament with flashers and things no sides can know nothing but flashers that would be a great tournament to see anyway God bless keep up the good work and tight lines
Ive got something like 6 colors of curlytailed grubs in my bag. At night, under lights, fish feeding....H&H grubs on twin lure setups are KILLERS. Feeding fish will fight each other to get to a grub. FWIW, Gulp and H&H are my faves.
Started with the old Mann's Stingray grub, and then the Mr. Twister Sassy Grub. Didn't need any color other then smoke in either of them. Through the 70s and 80s, I probably caught more fish on grubs than anything else. Started including other colors and twister tailed grubs somewhere along the lines, but the long since discontinued smoke Sassy will probably always be my favorite. Still fish grubs a lot, but probably not enough.
It's hard to try new lures when we got some success with those we are using currently , I myself get too attach to the same that has been used for years
Sorry, i forgot to mention that i fish it on a casting setup with 20 to 30 pound braid and a medium heavy casting rod, my son fish it on a spinning setup with 20 pound braid. Also on a m/heavy Shimano rod.
@@billdance For sure. I have to agree with you that a grub is one of the best lures if fished correctly. I fish the Damiki Fat Albert with the casting combo as it is quite a bit bigger than other grubs that cannot be fished with a casting setup. Love your channel!
I have a whole Plano case of various colors, split tail, manatee tail, etc... Awesome go to when I add them to a Spinner bait as well. I'll reliable Beetle Spin can be enhanced using these.
There is another bait that may fit this category. A, (TUBE BAIT,) I caught a 6 lb. Smallmouth with a 1/2 inch tube bait at night on 6 lb. test line in a river. What a fight.
i have used a grub a couple times. not much interest / experience to say it works or not. I think this lure gets ignored because of all the new plastics that are out. This is an old school technique / lure. I was out at BPS today looking around. There are sooooo many plastics, and artificial lures to choose from. Many old school techniques are forgotten about and replaced with something new. Old school lure techniques caught fish many years ago, but for some reason, they are left behind.
Not only should congressional pay be withheld, there should be significant monetary penalties for congresspeople for each day of defaulting. This is their friggin’ job, keeping the country running, and it’s asinine that that this now happens every budget cycle.

Sometimes using a lure they haven't seen does the trick.
I’ve caught my biggest bass on a grub…. at night funnily enough. Also some snook for any saltwater anglers. Great bait!
The old school guys know the power of a grub!
Bill the HOG whisperer... First two fish of the video just strait donkeys...need to find some water like that near me. Dang!
Great video bill really enjoyed it thanks 👍
Love mr Bill
I caught my pb smallmouth bass on a 3" white mister twister grub pulled behind the boat with a large split shot 18" above the grub.

I fish professionally and Bill is still my hero. He has slowed a but but still can catch the bruisers

Like to use them in rivers and streams.having trouble finding the grubs in the color brown
I've had this happen to me fishing on the Musselshell River several times. The only bites I could get were on a grub.

Best soft plastic lure ever invented.
I fish with a plastic grub!
I wish we could watch all the past episodes from the last 40 years . I assume they are not available because sponsors have changed over the years.
We're working on it. The old film and some old video tape didn't hold up so well over the years.

We are like Bill we only use zebco rods and reel
I put 200 pounds of saugeye fillets in the freezer last year with plastic grubs ..
