    I once got a car from IAA listed at 17k miles. Turned out it had 115k. Even though they didn't have to, they agreed to buy the car back. I still lost money in transport fees, but I'm grateful it was a $700 lesson and not a $14,000 lesson.

    I have purchased ten vehicles from Copart since 2016. I have always been extremely careful, and I research all of the available documentation. From a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII (63,000 miles) for $350 to a 2007 SAAB 9 3 convertible (81,000 miles) for $1,800 and eight cars in between, all of them are now in perfect condition. If the car has the "D" and "R" on the listing, that generally means it Runs and Drives and is a Donation. I got a 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado ("D/R") with 64,000 miles in mint condition for $675. Lately, the prices have been outrageous, so I am holding back for a while. In California the DMV adds $50 to register a salvage title vehicle, as long as you perform a smog test and light safety test. The best cars to buy are Pontiac Bonnevilles and Buick LeSabres and Park Avenues with the GM 3800 V6. And, yes, I never bought TMU, Parts Only or Junk Titles!

Once its listed and stored, if theres trash on the yard, the workers fill the cars with it, risking tearing up any parts that are salvageable. There's no better cure for stupidity than knowledge. Instead of scaring people out of buying from salvage auctions, just inform the idiots on the do's and don'ts and it's their choice to listen or not. I've been buying from Copart and IAAI for many years and I've been very successful because I knew what to look for. And that doesnt mean that it's always been that way, buying anything sight unseen isn't always a good idea because the pictures and description can only tell you so much. So my suggestion is to only buy cars locally. That way, you can see the car in person before deciding whether it's worth bidding on it or not. If you can't find any cars worth looking at in your area, keep waiting. People are always getting into fender benders and cars always come and go from the auction. Keep waiting and don't rush your decision making process

      @@ppsthannon96 If you are a Copart member, you can go to any Copart location near you to inspect a vehicle of your choice as long as you follow a set of rules, and as long as the vehicle has a sale date. At IAA, you can inspect a vehicle when a preview date is determined as long as you are a registered buyer. But, the problem is that Copart requires you to have a business license to be a member, and not many random Joe Schmoes like me have that license. So, you may need to convince your broker or dealer to go to the location with you (not an easy task!)

    I had a friend buy a car from Copart that had heavy front end damage but was listed as "starts & runs" he should have known better, he figured about $10k to fix all the front end damage, he purchased it, had it shipped to him, took him about 2 months to rebuild the front end, he was so happy, took it out for a test drive and vehicle over heated, brought it back home, had me come over to look at it the coolant was low but clean, we topped the fluid off and took it for another drive and over heated again, this time opened the radiator cap and watched bubbles come up, grabbed a pressure tester and sure enough it had a blown head gasket. He pulled the head had it sent out and head was wrapped so ended up having to buy a new head, gaskets, head bolts, etc. Could have been worse but that was an extra $5K he wasn't planning on. With all the repairs it pretty much came out to what he could have bought a non-damaged car for.

    The problem with most cars in the auction is that many will overbid on these vehicles to the point that by the time the vehicle is fully fixed it will have a similar value to a car that would be clean title not worth the hastle on many vehicles. Profit margins on a lot of auction/salvage cars have gotten very slim lately due to banks nolonger providing loans on salvage title vehicles.

    Lucky, I've got a lot of salvage cars bought from IAA on our lot. Are you able to give advice on how to sell those vehicles or possibly make a video about it?

    The best tip for salvage buyers. Pre-bid your car a reasonable amount and don't watch the auction.

      @@LuckyLopez777 at copart and iaai..I usually do it because it prevents me from watching the auction and over paying.

      find out how much the car would cost if it was unused and then make it 1/3-1/4 of the cost and you’d probably have it

    I dunno. I love copart cars as track cars lol. No title needed, some are in good running condition and just pull the frame, slap some junkyard panels back on and we are good to hit the track with new pads rotors, fluid haha

    So question what if you were just looking for a vehicle for certain parts. Is it worth it then? I’m looking for a cheaper option for an engine swap v6 to v8 is that a good way to go about it or no?

      yes we do that alot we bought a wrecked dodge charger for $4400. the junk yard wanted $3500 just for the motor so now we can use the motor and sell the cats and have extra transmission and other parts 👍

    What broker do you recommend for IAAI? It looks like there are alot of brokers for Copart but not so many for IAAI. I'm looking at buying a vehicle in South Dakota which requires a dealer license/broker.

    Do all cars from copart need to be inspected before registering? And if so where can you have it inspected. Usually buy cars from local auctions new to this

    • @XX-166
      @XX-166 2 роки тому

      There should be a 3rd party in place that you can pay to inspect the vehicles especially since alot of people can’t view the cars they’re buying. Clear title only for me and run and drive with minor dents and scratches .. no salvage or anything else.
