    Brasso doming the Imperial troop with Maarva's brick lives rent-free in my head.

  • @deanthemachine8879

    Little detail that got me: in Episode 11 as Brasso is going through the Andor house, he notices that Maarva cleaned Cassian’s room (which was tossed by the Syril and his crew in episode 3) showing that Maarva always expected Cassian to return even though he mostly slept out in the junkyard while on the run during the series. The contrast between Cassian and Syril’s mothers succinctly tells you all you need to know about their respective sides and perspectives on the Universe. Likewise, it informs how they find romantic partners (for Cassian, intimacy is easy; for Syril, intimacy is unsettling and has an element of possessiveness). Just great writing.
    I wasn’t there when my mother passed and it felt relatable when Cassian (and the audience) wasn’t there for his mother’s passing. We don’t always get a tidy bow on life. People like Kino can come into our life, have a significant influence on us, and we never see them again
    “I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong” absolutely wrecks me.

    Yes, Mon Mothma threw her husband under the bus, creating an alibi for herself. Very clever, and stone cold. (She tells Luthen early in the series that she knows her driver is a spy, that she is surrounded by imperial spies surveilling her). And yes, I think the idea is that her daughter is so into the traditional customs that she is thrilled about the introduction ceremony. Of course it doesn’t change the fact that Mon Mothma feels like she is sacrificing her daughter, regardless of how happy the girl is about it.
    I think they tied it up perfectly: Cassian’s life as a civilian ends in the final scene, setting up his life as an organised rebel in season 2. And how does he convince Luthen to recruit him proper? By asking him to either take him in or kill him, right then and there. You can’t ask for more conviction in a rebel recruit, which is why Luthen smiles knowingly.
    As for Bix, I worry about her in season 2: They have now set the stage for her and Cassian to rekindle their romantic relationship, but we know what he says in Rogue One: ”You’re not the only one who lost everything”.

      I would be heartbroken if Bix and Bee didn't survive. I picture Brasso and Cassian running jobs while Bix is doing logistics and aquisitions someplace safer. I picture her on Yavin 4 and the final scene is Cassian telling Bix he's going to go help Jyn. Then after the Death Star is blown up and the Rebels are celebrating, Bix and Bee share a contemplative moment.

      @@artboymoy Yeah, I can’t wait for season 2, whenever it’s coming. I won’t even try to guess what’s in store, but I’m confident that Tony Gilroy will be real and not chicken out - (the escalating severity of the Empire, as shown in Andor, kind of leaves no other choice). So I guess I’m preparing myself for a few tragedies. I think it’s probably going to be a rough ride.

    It gave Star Wars characters jobs. That’s huge and important for grounding. The OT started with the characters having jobs before being fully active in the Rebellion (Luke was a moisture farmer, Han was a smuggler, and Leia was a politician). Cassian was mostly an outcast in his community because he wasn mostly just running cons and bailing on his actual job in the scrap yards. Newer Star Wars shows feels somewhat less grounded because everyone’s job seems to be “adventure”. At least Mando season 1 had a focus of him getting paid for his adventuring.

    • @nullunit
      @nullunit 9 місяців тому +2

      That is a great point and why I find the Fav-Loni shows less interesting as they go because they feel less and less grounded with no real stakes and every note is predictable. Same for the marvel shows really except for Loki S1 and 2. I don't need everything to be as grim as Andor can be but the production quality and writing is what they should aim for. Take time to make something for waiting for. In the last few years we have been blessed with some exception shows, Foundation, Silo, Andor, The Expanse, Arcane, even Strange New Worlds which is more straight forward in it's approach ha some absolute bangers and great character development.
      Hyped for season 2 and kinda happy it will be the end of the series. I just hope Disney learns from it.

    17:31 the daughter is already shown as someone who wants to be the opposite of Mon. Mon lost her taste for the old traditions, while her daughter is seemingly choosing to follow the old ways. I'd say she looks determined.

      Agreed and it feels like a part of Mon’s hesitancy is knowing that her daughter would naively 100% be down for it, maybe just like she was at that age.

    • @nagulf
      @nagulf Рік тому +6

      The reason why her daughter is so into the old traditions is because she blames her mother for the marital strife and the unhappy home. She's a teenager and doesn't understand that Mon Mothma is quite literally trying to save the galaxy. All she sees is a mother who is never home unless she is hosting a political event and a fun carefree father who lets her do whatever she wants. What she wants is a happy home and the attention of her mother. As such, she has adopted the old traditions as a scold to her mom. She's behaving the way she thinks her mother should. This is why she had an outburst at breakfast and refused to accompany her mom to a political appearance and why she gave her the look back as she was being presented to Davo's son. It was as if to say, "See mom? This is how to be a good mother and wife." Leida is confused and hurt and reaching out to the ready answers provided by the restrictive, but structured, Chandrilan traditions. #SpaceTradwife

    • @nagulf
      @nagulf Рік тому +2

      @@kirkdarling4120 For sure, that's what makes her sacrifice so poignant when she throws Perrin under the bus with the gambling ruse and sells her daughter to Davos. She can't tell them what is at stake and give them the choice that everyone deserves. Even still, her open advocacy for the Ghormans and the pretense of the Chandrilan charitable outreach program should signal to Leida her mother's deep morality. But to Leida it just feels like Mon is sacrificing her family for strangers. How little does she know. I half expect we'll get a narrative that Leida or Perrin actually turns Mon into the authorities (maybe unwittingly) precipitating Mon's escape and unveiling her as a rebel leader, similar to how children spied on their parents in East Germany. I expect season 2 to be absolutely heartbreaking for Mon. What an amazing character.

    It's a shame the rest of the Disney series don't even approach this level of quality. At this point in TV history show quality like this should be the norm. Marva so amazing. Yes, I'm not sure if we'll see Vel in Season 2. She seems to be in the Rebellion for the wrong reason if she's latched onto Cinta. Cinta, OTOH is a diehard Rebel.

    • @Rocco1332
      @Rocco1332 Рік тому +1

      @artboymoy I don't necessarily see it as "the wrong reason" but more, not comprehending the scope of it all. As someone from money, she knew that the Empire was bad but hadn't seen the true scope of it as her life was mostly untouched. I assume she met Cinta after joining. Cinta is so diehard because the Empire literally destroyed her life, and Vel is slowly coming to terms with what that actually means. Luthen said that she wanted to lead. Perhaps she got a taste of action but it's been slow going and quieter allowing her to return home in between and hasn't had to fully live the life yet the way Cinta has.

    Yes, Mon Mothma absolutely threw her husband under the bus to cover her trail. Having a public spat in front of a suspected mole was intentional. And they established that her daughter was a traditionalist to spite her mother, so while she had reservations about the arranged marriage, she could justify it in her own mind by telling herself it's what her daughter would want...
    Also, I love that Brasso used Marva's brick to start the fight on Ferrix... I suspect that Marva would very much approve.
    Great writing, acting and production values all around. Looking forward to season 2. I hope the people in charge of the Star Wars universe take a lesson from how well this was received and set this as the bar for future adult-oriented Sta Wars content (still definitely a place for the younger and family skewing stuff, though).

    Yes, Mon has mentioned twice before that she believes her driver is an Imperial mole. So, she definitely tossed her husband off the sleigh to draw Imperial auditors off her track. But that won't be enough to cover her continued rebel support activity. She still needs Davo Sculdon.
    When Cyril and Mosk exchanged hats, that's because in their old Corpos roles, orange notes on the hat denoted command. Mosk gave Cyril his orange hat to signify that he still considered Cyril his commander.
    The Daughters gathered more people than they were permitted, then started the funeral early. When the funeral dirge turned into a battle march, I knew the Daughters had planned to start some shizzle. They had clearly already heard Maarva's speech and were intending to misbehave.
    Cinta's job was to find and kill Andor, but she was focused on killing the Imperial spy. Her mind is dark with hatred for Imperials. She most certainly killed all the Imperial hostages on Aldhani.
    Yes, Mon's daughter was pleased. Part of her pleasure is in knowing her mother's disapproval of the "old ways" of betrothal. But sooner or later the Empire is going to uncover her Rebellion activity. Someone like Davo is the kind of person who will be able to hide her daughter from the Empire. Davo is the one who doesn't realize what kind of trouble he's marrying his family into. He thinks Mon is just another corrupt politician who can get him some social credibility...he doesn't know what she's really doing.
    Luthern spoke to Lonnie about needing "heroes." That's the same idea we have gotten from all the other Star Wars stories (except Rogue One, which is a contination of Andor). I'm not sure Luthern understood in the same way Nemik did that the revolution would be fought and won mostly by ordinary people on the street, not by heroes in key positions or "chosen ones." That was the lesson he learned watching the riot on Ferrix.
    This show does have great rewatch value.

    @12:02 might be my favorite shot of the series. It's the moment he realizes that he is not alone, and that the rebellion will win.
    He already realized who these people are earlier... nobody's! These people have no ambition, they just put there head down, go to work, and don't wanna bother anyone. The empire pissed THESE people off so bad that they rioted?! Then it's gonna happen everywhere. Live or die, he can stop stressing because the rebellion was proved right.

  • @artboymoy
    @artboymoy Рік тому +4

    OOOOO Boy! Here we are! Yes, Mon was throwing her husband under the bus to take the fall for the missing money. We know that driver was most likely a spy since he was a new driver as noted in episode 4. Thought you would have picked up on that off the bat, since you've been really intuitive during the series. What did you think of the end credit scene? It wasn't needed but it's ironic that Cassian helped build the machine that would kill him. Nurchi is just in it for the reward but was probably having regrets before he got blown up. The show is worth a rewatch. It's just great TV.
    The series does expand the universe. Seeing how normal citizens react to rising oppression is great. We got a little bit of that life in the OG Star Wars with Luke going about his day on Tattooine. Syril saving Dedra was hilarious to me. I think they probably did it in that storage locker. Maarva's speech was great. It was weird when we didn't see her death or body, so I thought she'd be appearing again, just didn't expect the giant holo. Bee must have had a massive battery back up to pull that one off. Her brick being used to smash a trooper's head was great.
    I watch the reactors to see what they think of during the Syril and Mosk bus ride. Some reactors or commenters think it's so they can spot each other in the crowd but I disagree. Watching the body language and actions make me think that when they chose their outfits, Syril didn't get the hat he wanted so he's sulking like a child. Mosk figured he wanted his hat so he just gives it to him in a bestie gesture. Syril takes the hat and puts it on looking happy as a clam. We know he's a fashion guy so it's important to him and makes perfect sense even in this time.
    Looking forward to Season 2! It's going to be 4 arcs of 3 episodes, each taking place in a year BBY and right up to Rogue One.
    Great job! It was fun watching you react to this series!

    These last two episodes really inspired me on something. No, not over-throwing the government or some crazy crap like that. I'm talking about "being Bricked". I have never wanted to be "buried in a box" in the ground. Maybe because I've seen it happen to family members since I was a small child. So, I have been opting for the cremation route. BUT.... having my ashes mixed with concrete (and soil from where I'm from) and formed into a brick with my basic info on it (name, dates of life, and maybe a favorite saying), and used to "build something for the future".... THAT sounds like a great idea! I absolutely LOVE that idea!
