    Thanks for your awesome video! It's important that people with experience with this new hybrid post their experiences online. I got one of these, a male as it turned out, several months back, for my 65g community (Harlequin Rasboras, Threadfin Rainbows, Cherry Barbs, Otocinclus, and one German Blue Ram) and he's not aggressive to anyone except my one German Blue Ram (the biggest fish in the tank, after the Polar), but it's nothing but a little harmless, territorial chasing sometimes, and my Ram chases him right back. He's about 2.5-3 inches long now. The other day, I introduced a younger, female Polar (pink belly) into the tank (1 inch), and the male just went crazy with joy! It was a sight to behold! He swam several circles around her, rubbed against her, herded her around a little, and then immediately started cleaning the flat surfaces of some slate I have in the tank, bless his heart! They are very happy hanging out, and I put in a big cave for them which they immediately claimed as their home. I am hoping that when the female matures they will spawn. Also, they are both very friendly towards people: they always come right up to the side of the tank and check me out/hang out with me whenever I look in on them. Truly wonderful fish!

    Thank you for the video! I was never super interested in cichlids (I saw the appeal but they never vibed enough with me to consider getting them)... until I saw the polar blues at the pet store I work at had babies and were guarding them. Something about other animals showing parental care like that just melts my heart lol even if I'm NOT a kids person myself. I fell in love! And I'm doing a whole bunch of research now. Gotta say, I'm relieved to hear they can do well in 20-30 gallons minimum -- I was hearing 50+, which bummed me out because I just do not have the room or money for that size tank right now. But 20 or 30, in the semi-short term, absolutely.

    Just bought a small pair of these recently after our blood parrot cichlid died and we've instantly fell in love with them. One bonus benefit we've noticed with ours is that they've absolutely decimated our pest snail problem we had in that tank. Literally overnight, no more pest snails. Could not believe it. We've tried puffer fish, yoyo loaches, and nothing worked. Wasn't even buying these guys to eat the snails and now we're going to move them to our other tanks to get rid of the snails in those ones as well.

    I got a pair of these about a month ago and they’re still about an inch big. I’m keeping them in a 29 gallon community tank with some Odessa barbs, a sail fin pair, some long fin silver danios and platties and they seem to be getting along well. Granted when i introduced them the community tank was already established and they were smaller than all the other fish. They’re super awesome to watch, super curious fish that follow you around sometimes. Not sure how to sex them but the slightly bigger one chases the smaller one around sometimes but there are enough hiding spots for it to quickly get away. They’re definitely an awesome fish and I recommend you get a pair! The blue is super cool too!

      The Aquatic Coder hi hello!! I came back to tell everyone that I just saw live babies from my pair!! For weeks they’ve been very territorial over a far end of the fish tank and just this afternoon I noticed a bunch of moving dots on the substrate where they stay and it’s a bunch of babies!!!

    I bought a tank about 6 months ago, and it came with a brood of around 20 Polar Parrots, and the first thing that strikes me is that the head shape is quite different to your pair. My males have a very broad head, but without the big hump. The females are much smaller, and are more slender.
    When it comes to aggression, there are a few tussles now and again, but nothing that gives me any cause for concern, and that's despite the fact that the fish have reached sexual maturity, and are having great fun digging up the substrate to make caves.
    On the subject of breeding, I know I have at least one fertile male, as I've seen fry in the tank, but they didn't last too long. However, now that there are a few fish that have paired off, I'll pay more attention if I see any more fry.
    One thing relating to the size of the fish is that they range in size from around 75mm (3") for the fully grown males, down to about 15mm (5/8") or the size of my thumb nail, so I'm picking that it's the runt of the brood, but it's been chewing on Vibrabites for six months, and whilst it hasn't grown, it's also doing a good job of not dying 😉
    I'll try to upload some footage and I'll try my best to answer any questions, but I'm enjoying watching these colourful characters ... 😀

After I removed the two being bullying, and I had another one in with my red parrot fish so I added them to that fish tank… The bloodparrot fish don’t acknowledge my new polar parrot fish, but the same two are still being bullied by the one that was in with the blood parrot fish

      That's unfortunate since you can only move fish so much. Does it look like the two are being injured or just chased around the tank? There is not much I can suggest other than more plants, decorations, caves and such to allow them to get away easier and hide.

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому

      Sorry to hear about the loss you had. My parrots had a much happier ending. I ended up with a male/female pair. The dominate one was a male. Now they swim together happily and lay eggs every other month or so. My understanding is that they are trying to establish a dominance hierarchy. I know on the Aquarium Coop Blood Parrot video it is recommended to get at least 3 so one does no bully the other. I've seen this happen with other Cichlids I've had as well. It happened when I had only two Polar Parrots but they chilled out as adults. When I've had two Angelfish it happened but got really bad so I was forced to separate them.

The first set were eaten, the second set is still stuck to the rocks, kind of a light brown, off white shade and two of them keep wiggling around over the eggs. I STILL cannot tell the difference between the two other than some pattern differences. Can you give me any more info about sexing them? Congrats on them laying eggs! Mine lay eggs every month so even if the first few batches isn't successful you'll probably have many more chances. The best way to tell the difference is about a week before the female lays eggs she will have orange/yellow on her belly. At least mine does and I've read that from others. That's the main way I can tell, besides that the behavior between male/female is very similar.

    Hi there, I don't know if you can see this since it's been 9 months but would you recommend them with oscars or red zebra cichlids? I have 2 mbunas, african cichlids from lake malawi in a pond, I want to buy 2-4 blue polar parrot but I'm concern that the mbuna would pick on them. I'm also planning to add one oscar but I think they are too big for blue polars so I'm gonna prioritize the Mbuna red zebra cichlids with blue polar first, and just let it go of the oscar idea. I hope you can see this or give some insights, Google doesn't really help.

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому +1

      I think aggression wise Oscars and Polar Blues go well together but I definitely do worry about an Oscar at full size being able to eat a Polar Blue pretty easily. Probably best to avoid for that reason.
      My knowledge on African Cichlids is pretty limited. They are a fish I have yet to try yet. I have seen many example of fish keepers successfully keeping Polar Blues and African Cichlids together though. I tend to look up if a species will go with a Convict Cichlid as Polar Blues are very similar (although usually less aggressive). It seems people have had success keeping Mbunus and Convicts together although not always. Do you have any rocks or decorations in the pond? I think having line of sight breaks will increase your chance for success.

      In my opinion it is a bit risky with Oscars once the Oscars are full grown. If you want to try it then getting the Polar Parrots while the Oscars are young and on the smaller side

      They could be okay in an African Cichlid tank. I recommend looking up mixing Convict Cichlids with whichever type of African Cichlids that you have since Polar Blues are very similar to Convicts (although usually less aggressive).
