Seen this twice in the last 2 weeks at Bristol Hippodrome. Brilliant new production. All the main characters are immense, John Owen-Jones as Valjeean, Earl Carpenter as Javert, Gareth Gates as Marius, Rosalind James as Eponine, Ashley Artus and Lynne Wilmot as the Thenardiiers, Katie Hall as Cosette. Going to see it again in London next month. Best musical ever.
Wonderful version. I wasn't a fan of him as a pop star, but went to see him with an open mind, and was absolutely stunned by his performance! I'd definitely see him in theatre again!
You know, I'm usually not for Tenors singing this song since Michael Ball (the original Marius) is a baritone...but I'd be a fool to say that was anything but awesome! Thank you for putting this up here, I really appreciate it...
There's only few people who can make me cry during this song. For a very long time it was Jon Lee. Well, of course Ramin Karimloo as I have a soft spot for his voice and Gareth Gates. All three being amazing in this role.
i saw the show last night and he was in it, he was amazing!!!! i remember when he just became famous, now he has been kinda forgotten, but he makes such a good marius!!
I SAW THIS LAST NIGHT, OOOOH MY GOD. THIS WAS THE BEST SONG - THE WAY IT WAS PERFORMED WAS SO DIFFERENT FROM LONDON, I WAS WEEPING. WEEPING. SO MUCH WEEPING. WITH THE CANDLES AND UGH.
@ncisgigfan i agree with you. each performer brings something different to the role, and i think that comparing each one just takes more away from the whole picture than we realize. these people work hard to give a good performance and we should appreciate it.
Wow, Gareth Gates as Marius! That's something I never thought I'd hear. I prefer Michael Ball but I think this is wonderful too. Gareth hasn't lost any of his charm and gets better as the years go by. That can't be said for many artists, especially recording artists who move into theatre.
you mean when singing with anyone in that cast, don't compare him to ramin, at least to someone he could possibly even compare too. ramin is just too amazing
For somebody who is listening to this song for the first time, I guess Michael Ball, Gareth Gates and Nick Jonas all sound good with different flavor.. Those who has been listening to Michael Ball for 25 years, really don't need to force their ideas on others.
@LiMaBue true.. but i heard somewhere that Ramin wasnt traditionally trained in the theater either.. he just has a lot more time and experiance behind him.. everyone has to start somewhere! =)
My fav song of the whole play i have been in love with it since i can remember yet i think michael ball sings it better than this although gareth does sing it well
Ok Im a dude and heterosexual Garreth is light years better then Nick Jonas and singing and acting. And I think he is more handsome so ladies whats the problem. If Nick Jonas wouldnt sound like a whiny dieing squirell and you know was even just ok. Id be fine because Romin, and Alfie, and Sam are awesome. In the words of the Big Lebowski "Your out of your element Donnie" So are you Nick your just out of your league and if you dont know it then heaven help you.

thank you much! Some people can't understand the work that everyone is doing! They just should respect it! Even if they don't like it!
When I saw Gareth in this last year I was pleasantly surprised at how great he was! He were brill :P
Saw Les Mis last night with Gareth as Marius. Absolutely fantastic.
@KingMingus totally agree. Ive seen him in Les Miz 3 times and each time have been impressed, not just by his singing but his acting ability.

This is my favorite version of this song.
Thank you for saying everything I was thinking.
This is just brilliant, brings tears to my eyes.
This is fantastic. Saw Les Mis at Bristol Hippodrome 2 days ago - brilliant.
I really like this version! He's got a charming voice.

@theofficialgomfo Yes, the album is available in the theatres already, and will go on general sale next month.

Pronounced perfectly
@Didoria89 If you want the actual CD, you might have to import it from UK amazon, but it's available as an MP3 download from German amazon.

my fave marius, because he really emotes, though he doesn't much look the role in my opinion, his voice and his acting is perfect
@Snowdrop2 is there a possibility to get it in germany? This is totally amazing!
Much better than the Jonas version, in my opinion. He adds his own personality to it. But he can't beat Michael Ball. He is the King of the muscials.

@patod21 I saw that too! It was epic, wasn't it? :D
hey, is he still performing in les mis?
On Amazon

he looks like Dr who
@alexmz123 I agree, he was a really bad Marius. When he was singing with Ramin, he just looked like a little child compared to a well trained singer.
you're all annoying with Michael Ball!! When the hell will you understand that he is NOT Gareth and he is NOT Nick Jonas! Stop compare them!
