Aaliyah was special. Her singing combined with the writing and production of Timbaland and Missy Elliott changed the game.
It was the anniversary of her death that passed, her birthday is January 16th. But I agree her, Timbaland, and Missy helped change the game.
@@alysiajackson596 Thanks for the correction. Don't know how I made that mistake. That was a devastating day.
@@dbrownthegreat No problem.
Don't forget the 1st album with R Kelly
@@revcoston Absolutely. There's a lot of great songs on that album. One of my favorite songs Kells did for her isn't on the album though, the "At Your Best (Steppers Remix)."
Man, Aaliyah was my girl. She couldn't do NO wrong in my book. The day she died was just a dark dark day. They don't make her like her no more
Totally agree🙌🙌🙌🙌
True! R.I.P.
Facts 💯✅
That was the saddest day 😭🥺 I still remember what I was doing when I heard it on the radio. Total and utter shock 😢
She was my girl !
Her loss was a generational tragedy. Taken at her prime, so much to offer the world. I'm still upset about it.
So am I!!!💔💔💔
#Tears
Same
Same 💖
💔💔💔💔
I agree!!! Good times those were. I miss them. 🤜🏻❤️🤛🏾
Aaliyah was one in a million. "Are U That Somebody" and "4 Page Letter" are some of her best songs
Omg 4 page letter 😭😭❤️❤️❤️
More Than A Woman 😩
4 Page letter!!
At Your Best... 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Rock the boat 🙌
My honest opinion if Aaliyah was here she'd have her own label and still be making hits
facts
Do you think she would have called her record label “Babygirl Records” ?
@@iisummeriii maybe
agree
or probably Independent and having her own Dance studio working with kids and recognizing developing future talents with kids in the city thats what i feel she would want to do
I LOVE how he said, "Females today ain't like this." Truer words have never been spoken.
Please speak louder, so the people in back can hear you.
So young but they know.. Female singers now act like men
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Jhené Aiko and Summer Walker 🔥🔥 now tho..
@@MoOnWaLkiNoNwAtErR i love Walker but the new style of of R&B is very masculine compared to back then ..
Aaliyah "If Your Girl Only Knew"
"Are you That somebody"
Yesssss!!! I honestly think either of these would've been a better intro to Aaliyah. ❤
Please!!!!! Would love this
Are you that somebody is the JAM
Also more then woman
Dirty South!!!! 💀💀❤️❤️
Also check out her songs "Try Again" and "Are you that somebody"
I would personally add More Than A Woman to that list.
Yes to "Are you that somebody?"!!
@@NitasNiche there's so many odd sound choices in the background haha would love to see their faces when they hear a particular sample haha (no spoilers)
@@MickeyValenz hahaha! I forgot about that sound effect that I think you're talking about. 😂 It's the beat that sticks out most in my mind. Gotta go re-listen to it now!
@@nataliedepriest9113 more than a woman lowkey one of my favs and im a whole nigga 😂
Timbaland is such a genius he incorporated crickets in the background. crickets!!!! R.I.P. Aaliyah
More then a genius this man made beats with any sounds like a rabbit a frog or train 😂😂 anything today producer can’t make a beat to save their lives
The one Above all for real, the man used a baby cooing in Are You That Somebody 🤯
Yep hes a music goat in my opinion aaliyah genuwine magoo etc that era was soooooooo good
Omg 😱 I never knew that was crickets. I couldn’t put my finger on what that noise was and the whole it was crickets. 🙏 Genius
Tara I know right! 🦗 😱
You gotta listen to Aaliyah “ Are You that Somebody?”
Agree!!! My favorite!
Love that one too!!!
yess
Man I always love these mens reactions .... Anyway I thought the same thing... and... 4page letter
Yaasss.
I still get choked up thinking about her passing. She made my high school years tolerable. I miss her 😭
I was in college when she died. I cried for a solid week.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Me and my wife woke up and they were playing all her video's on BET and we knew something was wrong. So sad. Then 2 weeks later 9/11. Smh
Crystal Lake so many memories. I was invited to lunch the weekend before and met one of the men (security) who was also on the plane. Sadly he was a single dad to a young son. Her passing at such a young age broke many hearts. She had a complicated romantic history with men beyond her years.
Same here. I was blessed to see her in concert.
noellafay I was in college too. I was in denial for a while.
En Vogue “Don’t Go”, “ Don’t Let Go” “Given Him Something He Can Feel” “Hold On” & “Free Your Mind”
Ohhh you guys need to Definitely check out EnVouge FREE YOUR MIND. ❤❤❤
Yesssss 😍
Yes Free your mind is a must.
Yeesss!!
I've been saying they should do Free Your Mind
Triple threat. Singer, dancer and actress. She was a beautiful person. RIP. React to Rock the Boat, her final video.
Agreed!
THIS!
Yes I agree
its so hard to watch that and not be devastated all over again....such a loss....
Rock the boat was a hit too.
When Aaliyah died, I remember me & my friends talking about her & listening to her music at lunch for days in school. She was only 22 & she was so beautiful & so multi-talented it was like, if someone like her can die, can we die? We basically confronted our sense mortality for the first time. She was the first big celebrity I remember the passing of. And I absolutely loved her distinct sense of style & fashion outside of music and I still do. She did the sexy tomboy look better than anybody else. Other people remember Biggie & Tupac. I remember & still love Aaliyah.
I remember that day so clearly. My alarm came on and the news anchor said "remembering the life of Aaliyah when we come back." I thought that was weird to say, so I got up, turned on my computer and the headline was the first thing I saw on AOL. I was a MESS. 😭
I was 19 and had just had my son celebrating a new life only to learn hers had been taken too soon! It did make you start questioning life and death! This hurt so much!!! I still remember my dad waking me out up to this news like it was yesterday. So sad
This song was made for a car with a nice sound system. You can literally hear the music travel from speaker to speaker 😲
She was one of the smoothest and chillest and coolest artist ever without trying. Amazing! We miss you queen!
Joshua Edwards without even trying! I think she was a way better artist than Beyoncé, No hate on Beyoncé, I just don't get the appeal.
Yes! Without trying!
She was SO cool!
@@stephisteti Right, Aaliyah was just a more like able person, just her personality was just like an angel
If Aaliyah was alive today she would be a global superstar. Her album "Aaliyah" still is one of my absolute favourites! You should listen to more songs (Try again, We need a resolution, Rock the boat).
Aaliyah was a superstar before she died my friend , try that again 👎🏽
@@wwenewyork7570 not in all parts of the world (I'm not from the US). I'm sure she would have been where Beyoncé is now
Michaela Bald facts! But who knows
In movies she would be , music she would be in the same boat as brandy band Monica . Acting she would be fir sure huge.
Mark Minez your clearly ignorant Aaliyah longevity was unmatched and when she died she was on top wtf wrong with you
She's been gone for about 19 years now. I miss her. My personal favorites are 4 page letter. And Journey to the past, which she got to sing at the Oscars.
Wow it really has been that long...one of the biggest losses in the music industry 💯
Yep. 19 years and 1 day. Missy amd Tim posted a lot yesterday
Yes a couple of weeks before 911. Gone much too soon.
Journey To The Past. You're a woman of culture I see
Awww Aaliyah, I remember where I was when I heard she died. She was soooo talented. There's a reason we still listen to her music today.
Me too. I'll never forget. 😩😣😢
Me too
Check out
"Are U That Somebody?"
"Try Again"

Basically her entire catalog.
I love "We Need A Resolution"!!!
She was so talented, voice and choreography, what a huge loss of a such a young artist.
Sinead O’Connor “Nothing Compares to You”
Yess....that's my Jam!!!!!
Yes! They listened to Prince sing it already - my first time hearing him singing his own song. I’d only ever heard Sinead sing it.

Alanis Morissette
Bonnie Raitt
The GoGo’s
The Bengals to name a few more to add to your Wednesday lineup....
Aaliyah made such an impact in her short time with us (just turned 22). She's one of the few celebrities that I can say no one had anything bad to say about. Everyone loved her. Just a pure soul that was getting ready to take that next step into superstardom, but she and eight other passengers unfortunately passed away in a plane accident-- 19 years ago from the day after yall recorded this. R.I.P Baby Girl
Please react to "If Your Girl Only Knew" and "4 Page Letter" by Aaliyah.
That’s 💯 fact
Now matter how much time passes, Timbaland's production always sounds cutting edge
I agree! His production work is surely one in a million (pun intended ofc haha)
Always!
Yo that reaction when that beat dropped lol, priceless lol...listen when this came out in 97, people were doin the beat on cafeteria tables
Man she was so humble, graduated highschool with 4.0 GPA while still performing and promoting this album
She was a pure 💎
R.I.P. Aaliyah. She had the voice of an angel and truly was one in a million.
she the only reason why I'm here today Fr got Aaliyah tatted on me her music keeps me motivated when I'm at my lowest .
I agree!
Need to listen to Toni Braxton's " Unbreak my Heart" for women's Wednesday.
Seconded!
@@bd3966 Thirded !
One of my all time favorites. Right behind Bonnie Raitt’s “I can’t make you love me.”
Yesss Toni Braxton!!!
That song still crushes me. ❤
This was 90's R&B. Women's groups dominated this genre and had some of the best music!
How old are y'all. It's kind boggling that y'all never heard this. BUT I greatly appreciate y'all taking the time to listen and ENJOY My Generations Sweet Angel
22 and I was like them. Growing up in church they wouldn’t even play anything but Gospel. But when granny left 😯 uncle was killing fire and desire 😂😂😂 I knew a couple songs here and there.
@@arnettabosby5100 awe that's sad!! My entire family is a musical one I went to bed to the sounds of my brothers beating the drums in the basement. We also grew up in the church. I live many Genres of music. You would think being at school having friends you can hear these songs talent shows ect. Other family homes BBQs I get it not being in your home but there were ways to listen.
@@MarkeySlaughter Which is funny - my growing up. Everyone in my family plays an instrument or sings. My cousin is on her third Gospel album. and my cousin Teddy Riley.......yup him! is a great in the secular world. I love the 90's music more than any other time. I had just hit 20 in the 90's and it's my favorite R&B time. Now with my children, we listen to EVERYTHING and we all sing too. I love music and yes Gospel is still my first LOVE.
@@arnettabosby5100 I LOVE 90s music. JAMES Grear and Company is my my family. Paris Bennett (Ann Nesby's Granddaughter) is my cousin.
@@MarkeySlaughter ahhh... I’m a member of Ann’s church where all her family is 🖤
You need to do a whole Aaliyah listening series. She was one of the greats.
En Vogue "My Lovin...Never Gonna Get It"
And En Vogue with Salt N Peppa "Whatta Man"
lemme add Hold On cause that intro alone will have you hooked!
Definitely agree! Also Don't Let Go and Free Your Mind. En Vogue was one of my favorite groups.. Such amazing voices and harmonies!

Classics!
I will never forget when I heard the radio announcer tell us she’d passed. I cried my eyes out and so did the announcer. She then said she was not going to play anything else but Aaliyah the rest of the evening. RIP Aaliyah-so beautiful, cool, smooth, and ahead of the game. Gone too soon.
😢 I cry every time I hear Aaliyah. She was a true one of a kind. Her passing messed up the 90's generation. RIP Angel. Fav female artist of all time
Ah, Babygirl... taken FAR too soon. Still miss Aaliyah.
Aaliyah Recommendations: "Are You That Somebody," "Try Again," and "Rock the Boat." There's a lot of goodness before that, but those are those joints, ya know?
my boys, Are You That Somebody will give you life!
Timbaland & Magoo- “Luv 2 Luv Ya”
and “Up Jumps The Boogie” with Aaliyah and Missy Elliot
👏🏽 👏🏽
Up Jumps the Boogie was my JOINT
Yes this song hits hard to this day I still listen to it
Magoo crushes Luv 2 Luv Ya...one of my all time favorite verses in rap. Up Jumps The Boogie is such a mellow vibe.
Baby Girl RIP 💜 I feel musically sad for every generation who missed out on the 90’s
...and the '80's. There was so much music!
For me, it's the 70's.. and my parent's music (50's and 60's). Everyone has their own era that "speaks" to them, and now Tim and Fred can experience it all. That's the beauty and the power of music. Bringing back memories and creating new ones. 🙂♥️
JadeMusic no but truly . It’s really something special about the late 80’s to early 2000’s music .. I hear the new generation wish all the time that they had our music ..
Aaliyah was so smooth. She had EVERYBODY falling in love with her
Aaliyah "Try Again" "Rock the Boat" " Are You That Somebody"
90's R&B was theeee best! Nothing compares. Keep exposing yourselves to all of the music before your time and you'll see. Love it!
Try "4 Page Letter" also by Aaliyah ❤
"We need a resolution" is her best song. Rest in peace Aaliyah. 🙏
👍
Yes God👐🏾👐🏾💞 we definitely need a Resolution right now !!
Yesss 💪 🔥 This must be reacted to!!....
She's only like 17 here. Amazing beautiful talented mysterious young girl. Everything about her was such a vibe! #RIP
Dang man she was just so fly.
Talented. Beautiful. Humble.
I miss hers. 💙👑🙏😩😌
If you guys haven’t already, peep out AAliyah “At your best (you are love)” remix. This song is also a banger
Yes yes. I have been waiting and requesting this. Yesterday was the 19 year anniversary of her death.
I remember exactly where I was the moment I heard of her passing. Hit me hard. I still get emotional thinking about her. She was the first person in my age group that I “knew” who died. There’s something about that, I guess.
Me too!
😭
“Girls got the best love songs...” Facts. You’re wise wise men for tuning in to that. That’s some divine feminine mojo right there.
So true sis 🦋😍🔮feminine magic
She was a beautiful queen
How you said that the music isn't the same these days versus back in the day, is the EXACT reason we stick to blasting the best from the past. I swear I live in 90s/2000s music.
P.s. Please check out Alliyah Try Again and Back & Forth. 🙌
Y’all need to do Hot Boyz - Missy Elliot ft. Nas, Lil Mo and Eve! Iconic song!!
Yes!!!
throwing my vote in for you to listen to "Are You That Somebody" by Aaliyah. I have TWO granddaughters with her name, both of my children named one of their daughters after her....
Listen to Aaliyah's Try Again, and Rock the Boat! Gone to soon.
Rock the boat one of my all time favorites
Aaron Hall "I miss you" Donnell Jones "this luv" Tevin Campbell "can we talk"

100% to Tevin Campbell.
Missy and Timbaland did their thing with this whole album
The. Whole. Thing. No skips
JD produced one song on this album too
"I don't know where I was back in the day, but I wish I here!" 🤣🤣🤣
Another like Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC - Both gone too soon! TLC No Scrubs and Unpretty are epic songs!
I forget, did they pass over the same Summer or were they a year apart? Either way that was rough. I remember playing in my room listening to the radio when both of their deaths were announced.
@@giabryan3467 I forgot that too I'll be honest, it was rough you're right. You never want to see that happen especially so young.
@@giabryan3467 it was months at least 6 to 9 months apart 1st Aaliyah then Left Eye.. those were really hard for me as a young girl

I love to see the younger generation listen to Aaliyah’s music. I wish she was here to see it. I had just graduated high school in 2001 and remember her death on the news. It was so unexpected.
Since we are in '96, have y'all heard Ginuwine doing Pony? A friend told me if we don't play it at his funeral he is coming to haunt us.
Lol
Uh oh 😆
Ginuwine "In Those Jeans" had some commercial success, but not as much as "Pony", but it's better imo

So glad you guys discovered her. 🙏🏽❤️ Dive into her music! Watch “We Need a Resolution”...incredible song and video!Aaliyah was, is and will always be AMAZING. So talented, so beautiful. Her music, calming voice, innovative sound (Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Static Major (RIP) wrote and produced for her) and her regal energy is rare and timeless and singers to this day are still trying to recreate what she exuded effortlessly!! 😍 Gone way too soon... 🙏🏽✨😇 RIP to a queen. She sadly passed away in a plane crash August 25, 2001 at only 22 years old, ready to take over the world. Love you for life Aaliyah! 🌹🕊❤️
Aaliyah died so, so young (only 22). At the time, she was like at the top of her game. No other female R&B artist was touching her. She was even breaking into movies as well. You guy might want to check out a movie starring her and Jet Li entitled "Romeo Must Die". :)
Aaliyah was One In A Million. Y'all right. We need more of this again.
Aaliyah was a black Queen who will never be forgotten.
Gone way too soon at the tender age of 22 years young.

Of all your videos, this one has made me the happiest. Aaliyah’s music never fails. There are many more gems for you to listen to by her.
You said it, the game now is just about rappers, there aren’t singers coming out with bangers like this anymore.
