    1978 owner right here. It' a truly INSPIRATIONAL pedal. It gets you In The Zone (or, down the rabbit hole) really fast... I totally dig the fact that tones are just one fader move away (yes, I've written this all over the interwebs and am not ashamed to say so). My rack units (PCM 81, M3000) have been lying dormant for MONTHS, because if I need to be inspired to create something, my CXM is the unit to go.

      Can't disagree with anything here! It sounds better than any rack reverb I've ever had (TC Elec M5000, Eventide Eclipse/H8000, Dynacord) and miles more inspiring and creative to use! I was hoping it'd blow the UAFX out of the water as well but I have to admit the Golden sounds really good thus far! I originally planned this to be a loser leaves studio shoot-out but don't know if I can hold to that!

    I have the CXM 1978 and is my favorite pedal. I have a DBA ROOMS and a Strymon Night Sky that both do something different. But the CXM 1978 is my desert island reverb pedal!

      Mine too, though I guess that's not hard when I've never been sold on a reverb pedal before! Don't know about my favorite overall pedal. But I hesitate to call it a pedal, really! Who's gonna stomp on this thing, hehe?
      Thanks for the comment, cheers!

    I sold my ventris and a pcm96 with no regret. Then I used oto bim and bam a lot, which i still own and will never sell (probably). Now I got the uafx gr and this is just amazing, especially with synths it sounds like synth-heaven.

      I've moved away from rack fx but it doesn't surprise me that either of these pedals can stand in for them. Never used rack fx for bread and butter reverb or delay anyway, mostly for sound transformation.

    Awesome demo. You can clearly hear the quality of the golden in the recording comparison. But, for this type of hall reverberation in a pedal, it would be great to throw in a Context V2, Mr Black super moon chrome, and a ventris. Great demo approach

      Would love to lay hands on a Red Panda pedal one of these days! I think I did own a Ventris when I did this shoot-out but just these two pedals took me days to film and months to edit/upload! One of the things I really appreciate about these two that the Ventris lacked was the nice interface that allowed me to tweak without having to think about what knob 1 or knob 2 does, like the Ventris. I think sound-wise, both these pedals are a different class, though the Ventris has more capacity to get really far out due to the creative algos and being able to string two of them together.
      Which pedals are on your board?

    Would either one of those two pedals be a good reverb for production of vocals? I mean I am sure they will ok, but can they compete with other studio reverb ( TC, Eventide, Bricasti etc) or is this a total different category of equipment?

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  2 роки тому +1

      I've had a TC M5000, Eventide Eclipse, & Eventide H8000FW. All I can say is I never heard reverb out of those rack units that beat what I get out of CXM, especially the Eventide racks ... they're cool for a lot of things but reverb wasn't a strong point for me. M5000 had some other cool sounds, chorus, etc. that I liked. The UA sounds great as well but I usually have it chained to the other UA boxes and is not balanced so sometimes I get line noise.
      Bricasti I assume is a whole other ball of wax in a different class but from what I gather, that's more about realistic spaces whereas the pedals aren't.

    The cxm looks wild lol
    I’m looking to get something for my pedal board and possibly use it for inserts with vocals and stuff. Would you recommend the golden reverb?
    Also a drifting life! Totally dig yoshihiro’s work😅

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  3 роки тому +1

      I recommend both/either as it suits your situation. The CXM is totally wild, that's what I love about it. It'll take you places you weren't even thinking about before you plugged in. The Golden just sounds amazing. Best pedal reverb I've heard alongside the CXM. But it's more like a pedal and the CXM is like a studio tool really (even has balanced in/out).
      If you just want something to make a guitar sound awesome, probably UAFX. If you want more creative, studio driven tool, CXM!

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  3 роки тому

      Thank you 🙌. The CXM can take balanced i/o but I still have to watch levels because my interface (Cranborne 500r8) outputs high levels. The UAFX seems to be Ok with synths & stuff but if I'm tracking, I usually translate synths into instruments level using my Avedis md7 500 preamps.

      @@MKDVB frankly, I use my octatrack as an send effect mixer for reverb and filter😅 Its fine on the mix, I can modulate it and i use a radius 4 anyway, but as a standalone effect for sampling etc its rather mediocre. Was thinking about an eventide reverb, but in comparision to valhalla vsts it doesnt justify its price for that purpose. I was thinking about the CMX because you need headroom for effects on analog gear and I could use it on the mix too without sounding mushy. But the gold seems to be able to do that just as fine 😃

      @@leifmarkthaler7809 Yeah, I've always struggled with OTB reverb. I don't have an Octa but have enjoyed tweaking the A4mk2's reverb ... it can sound a little special with that sequencer. One day when I have the headspace, I'll get an Octa (again). The Golden's great. if you're thinking about it on the mix, do you have reamp boxes?

    • @leifmarkthaler7809
      @leifmarkthaler7809 2 роки тому

      @@MKDVB The A4 mk1 was my first electron machine and sadly also my reason not to touch any electron gear for years 😅😅 Don't remember its reverb though 🙃 I mostly do techno and the OT mk2 is a superb swiss army knife for this ( midi-sequencing, effect-mixer, live-sampler, drum-machine ) The AR mk2 reverb is really good for its own sounds ( and with its analog filters a supreme sampler for voice and dubsamples😉 ), so i reckon the A4 mk2 might have the same reverb-engine. Never thought about reamping 😃 Doen't work for live, but i will definitely try that out for sampling! I hesitated a long time to buy me an analog mixer for "glueing" sounds together ( which I reckon you could use reamping for ) but found a second hand Mastersounds Radius 4 last year. Soundwise best decision ever - this mixer makes even cheap samples and drummachines ( looking at you Drumburte ) sound alive and even with unbehaved filter / amp behaviour ( ARP ) it nearly never clips, so I could get rid of my ( well, also mediocre ) compressors.

      @@leifmarkthaler7809 ha! I just sold a Monomachine thst i loved because it mostly led towards techno, which isn't my thing. I'll have to check out this mixer. I use a Cranborne rack for recording and a mixwizard for jamming.
