- Dive into the world of Hybrid Semi Modular Synthesis with the Behringer GRIND, the latest addition to the Behringer Producer series. With a multi-engine digital oscillator, classic analog ladder filter and 24 digital oscillators including 15 Mutable Instruments Plaits engines there's no tone you can't create with this synthesizer.
Mutable Instruments still making waves.
you mean they should care 😂😂😂
@@sunnypedaal They care about as much about the world opinion as Putin, Kim Jong, Trump and Nethanyahu.
Literally
@@Average-AL people shouldnt care
Give Emilie credit that’s all she ever asked?
This is a great synth with a lot of extras. People knock Uri but honestly he makes things affordable and adds even more. Thanks for an amazing synth.
*Uli
For those just starting out in hardware, this is an amazing time to be doing it.
So jealous that I didn’t have all this cheap, but amazingly capable gear back in 1990 when I started.
If you were in a fwc you absolutely did
@@snörre23 - my first setup was a second hand Atari and a Korg Wavestation A/D. Cost me over £1000. That’s around £2.5k in todays money.
You’re right though about vintage stuff, I had most of the Roland XOX boxes, although they weren’t cheap (303 around £400 if memory serves) they were certainly affordable.
Best buy was a midi specced Jupiter 8 for £800 + Mackie LM3204 😀
Yeah its either this or if you really want something extra my MKS-80 REV4 is for sale
yes but you probably scored some ultra rarities cheap (hopefully)
For years I was stuck using ripped sounds from .MOD .IT and .XM files I got from dial up BBS's back in 93. These kids got the keys to the kingdom!
Great little machine ! Excellent addition to the "Crave" product line. Acid and DX 7 in the same machine
Well, the DX7 was actually a poly. This seems a mono.
What the Crave should've been.
You're right @@dans.8198
This device is so cool and is the perfect companion for other modular and semi-modular Synths. Great value, so much of Sound (Engines) and functionality for such a competitive price. Deluxe!!!
Jeez, do you guys never sleep lol, another quality product from the Behringer stable ❤
Absolutely getting this and the Spice when it comes out to pair with the Crave and my 2 Edges. The Syncussion unit also plays fantastically well with the 2 edges. So excited for when I grab this.
I can't even take the piss, this is just flat out good.
I'm pretty stoked about the patchbay too. All the controls in the top left can be modulated externally, pretty cool!
@@modelenginerding6996 Yeah, this is 100% dope. The possibilities get better with every new release in this format.
I had to look that one up. Learned something.
great work mutable instruments! finally in synth form!
the minifreak and microfreak at that too.
I have an Ambika and a Shruthi, those are in synth forms!
M8 Tracker also.
great work mutable. not great work fuckingger
Someone clearly doesn't know MI history. They started with synths (that did have sequencers).
Well I'm sold! I was not expecting this at all but it's a fantastic idea and execution.
Finally, a Plaits semi-modular. I'm surprised this took so long to be real, and I'm so excited to see it!
Considering Plaits is almost everyones recommendation for a first module this is a pretty smart idea.
Very smart. More compelling than a microfreak, with its semi modular I/o
Let's wait first and see how good or buggy the firmware will be.
Wow this is a great competitor to the micro freak
There's a lot of juicy, gnarly sounds coming out of this little box, I'm impressed!
A desktop plaits inspired synthesizer. Built upon by your expansion into eurorack modules and Moog cloned tabletops. I actually appreciate the creativity on this one! ✌️
Not plaits its brains
@@frallorfrallor3410 brains is a ripoff of plaits
Wow the panel design is absolutely beautiful...
Not at all
@@CableBoogie what
Uli and the boys absolutely crushed it with this gem. Yes please, now! 3 of them ASAP
By crush you mean took someone else’s work and profited from it?
@@milk_bathopen source, she shouldnt have been so generous 🤷
the microfreak offers much more :P
I look forward to its actual release at some point between now and when the universe ends 👍
The universe's end date is fast approaching....so we might get a release soon 🙃
😂😂
I’m still waiting for their new midi controller. Been about half a decade since the announcement so far.
when the universe ends: god will have collected all the behringers by then and will sync them all together to play one note that is so rich, harmonious, and righteous that all of existence will collapse in on itself because it can't handle being witness to something so beautiful & pure
me too :)
Love all the synth engines yiuve demonstraited so far. This is going to be popular. Hope its released soon.
I’m pretty sure ‘Ripping leads’ is the name of a folder in the Behringer R&D department as well 😅
Containing a save called RippingLeadFINALMASTER1.4.4.Mon2
Congrats Emilie on the release 🎉
😂
I see what u did there
Yeah aint Emilie getting paid.
@@sub-jec-tiv Well she did make it open source after all!
Who is Emilie?
Not gonna lie; getting goosebumps listening to this.
I'm glad you decided not to lie.
"Can't go wrong with a ladder filter?" They're so smooth. Hopefully the resonance doesn't kill the bass!!
That's just how it works
So this is Mutable Instruments Plaits in semi-modular groove form.
yeah, plaits + analog filter + sequencer
With a 24 dB ladder filter instead of the 12 dB Oberheim-SEM-style filter you get in the Microfreak/Minifreak.
@@sub-jec-tivwhat's the significance of that?
@@sub-jec-tiv I didn't know the microfreak had an SEM filter!
@@CartoonCityKid it doesn’t. It has a “SEM-style” filter… which bares a mild resemblance to a real SEM. Having owned the minifreak, I liked the filter, but it doesn’t really sound anything like an Oberheim filter.
0:19 glad to see the one and only Spice is well and alive, I was a little bit worried
It needs to be preserved at all costs, maybe a second Spice will be found and they’ll finally populate the world 🤣
This is fantastic. Definitely getting one. Thank you!!!!!!!
I have most of your synth products and the Crave and Edge are my favs. I can't wait to get this and the Spice.
@@mrpbody44 I’ve got a Subharmonicon which is really nice, but I’ve got no affiliation to Moog so it might get swapped out for a Spice.
Shout out to the team at Behringer! Keep the synth goodness flowing!
My mother warned me they’d be days like these! 🤩🤩🤩 I think I might like this a little too much
This will be an insta-buy when it's available. Really excited for this expansion to the lineup!
microfreak meets modular ... really a good idea!
microfreak already came from the open source mutable instruments plaits
Freak series are already modular based synths... O.o
@@Gungan42 But without a patch bay.
@@Gungan42they're not modular at all
@@NamelessSmile Internally the modulation matrix is amazingly vast on a microfreak
This is actually a very smart move, and no controversy :) !
Semi-modular brains? I'm all in! Well done!
as a behringer semi-hater, im impressed! Good job guys!
@@xenobiigaming - why the hate?
Turn that "semi" into a "diamond" !
@@leftmono1016Sweatshop conditions at their factory, making insane attacks against journalists for no good reason
it's nice to see they've made a keyboardless microfreak 5 years after it was released.... ehh... call me a cynic or whatever and i'll even admit this is a cool looking and sounding synth, but it doesn't exactly feel any more innovative than the swing keyboard if im being really brutally honest >.
We didn't need that first part, just give them your money and sit on your hands for the delivery person to knock on your door someday.🥶
So you took the crave, and made it Brilliant’er, nice work 🎧
RIP to this legend. My fave presenter
Bro, I mean thank you, but I'm still very much alive, you're mixing me up with Dan (RIP) who took over for me only for a couple years.
@@PatchDog Sorry about that Patrick, it seems a lot of people mistook Dan for you.
@@PatchDog eh! Man I’m glad to hear 🙏🙏 pulled a Lazarus
Thank you Behringer!! on top of the game, such innovators!
Oh really nice, behringers artwork on mutable Instruments! They do great practice on all the synths and then they combine this kind of stuff... great work!
This looks/sounds awesome!!
Simply hypnotized! ❤
I'm really excited to hold this synth in my hand by 2030 🎉
Ha.. I’ll have it by this coming January.
cool little box
Complex but not complicated, sounds great!
I love the Sound of this unit
This would fit in perfectly in my setup, will defo get it instantly whenever it comes out
great demo!!! this sounds so good. need want must have!!!
Can't wait for you to upload some jams on it!!
I see u on every snyth video bro
Looks fun and versatile, and it sounds great!
Perfect video thanks. One of these with every release please
Sounds phenomenal
Today I pre ordered one and said next year . I hope it is under the chimney on christmas day. The elves in the factory will be getting good at assembly and I believe in them and Father Uli
I'll definitely be waiting for this one. Can't wait to see a full demo of all the engines. I wonder if the FM engine could scratch my itch for the Yamaha DX200. I've wanted one for a while, but - hopefully - the FM and knobs on this could give me similar results.
Well , just look up mutable instruments plaits if you want to hear all the sound engines
It has that Paul Haslinger sound. - luv it
I love brains. I was thinking about getting another one. But a grind sounds like a better choice since it won't take up room in my rack. Brains as a stand alone synth is a great idea.
man this looks and sounds great
No Behringer, I am not ready. I'm not done yet spending my money on all of your current synths and you already throw another beast on the market.
Man, i really want this to live up to its name... So ears💥💥
Getting mad LCD soundsystem vibes from this thing
Love the sounds it makes. I think I need one.
As per usual with Behringer. Giving us the next “new thing” before giving us the last “new thing”
@@trevormalcolm4328 they know the market better than any other manufacturer.
Different projects are more complex than others to bring to market. They are releasing stuff all the time.
WHATTA beauty... I gatta get me one of these 💚
This is awesome! I would love to see a remake of the Alpha Juno 2 that is easier to program with dials to manipulate the sound!
Even more, I would love to see a remake of the OSCar, that thing was a beast but it was so temperamental and had no midi, and the few working ones are selling for obscene prices.
I would love to see a Behringer Alpha juno 2 and Behringer OSCar!
I'm ready for the Linn Drum you teased us with years ago... please??
If you look behind me in the intro of this video, you'll see it's on my shelf, just saying🙃
@@PatchDog so this year or next?
@@PatchDog
❣️❣️❣️ YES for the Grind and ❣️❣️❣️ YES for the Linn Drum ❤️❤️❤️
@@PatchDog i want this linn so bad! pleeeease!
@@Superlover In my honest opinion, it sounds dope, and I've played the Tears for Fears Linn Drum to compare😀
Damn that resonance grind at the end is fok massive!
"Oh Almighty Maker, Émilie Gillet, grant us our daily *Plaits.* Let it resonate through time. May your modules remain timeless and mutable, now and forever. Patch. Amen."
😂😂
Mate, have you lost your MARBLES? 😂jk , I love it . “it RIPPLES through the TIDES ,RINGS through the CLOUDS…”
Plaits as a stand-alone machine - nice!
Stunning!
Finally something (fairly) original by combining idea’s. That should be the new direction of Behringer!
@@rybakarol It's Plaits, which is what MF uses too I believe
@@rybakarol GRIND is really nice, but it doesn't replace a Crave, it depends what you want, Crave has a really beefy Oscillator, but GRIND has a wider palette of sounds plus drums it can do. And if you have a Microfreak already Crave would seem in my opinion a more logical choice.
"Feels good, sounds good, looks good: feels good too" (cit.) 👍
Aha, that’s right… 😊
😂💯💯
how bizzarre... I had the same band pop into my head during this demo. Surely it was more than the octave bass line... weird. and cool.
classic +1
Very clever design!
Already pre-ordered! Can't wait to play it. Btw I would love to see a Virus B remake in this Synth series :)
Wow didn’t even want this series til now
Man, i wish i had the money, time and space for all those great little machines. I would dig myself a comfy studio hole and never come out again 😇
I love the R.C Pro-am jam that will be my test song.
Can wait to buy one and play with it for like a week
Guys u did an amazing job! Instant order!!! 😍😍😍😍
Interesting and versatile little machine! I also like how the color scheme would match my Crave better than the Edge would 😉
Sounds great.
Everytime I think my GAS is cured, behringer brings out another gem i gotta have...
Wow. Just when I thought I'd completed the set with Spice. I love the Crave, but this is like the Crave on steroids. VERY tempting.
This is actually really cool!
Amazing!
Now we just need the Spice
Sounds fantastic take my money
This is the future, so many boxes in one... So many functions so i really feel like i''m in 2024, not in 2014.
I wonder if them Japanese engineers have something to do with this device? Have this light Japanese flavor to it,
Thanks Patrick! Behringer are lucky to have you coz u doing the best review possible... i can only imagine this being on "synthfluencers" channels... probably i would turn the video off in 2 mins or just fell asleep. So i can't wait for other videos!
The oscillator models are taken from Plaits, a eurorack module from 2018. Plus a DX7 model.
Nice plaits + mother-32 hackup!
The Brains module is a clone of Plaits with added stuff. It's really nice to see brains in a self contained package.
Yeah, it definitely is a hack job.
I am so here for it. My Crave/Edge combo is my favourite setup for live jamming so far (still waiting for the Spice though) but the single analog VCO of the Crave always felt a bit boring and I had considered to invest in a small Eurorack case, psu and fancy multi-VCO combo to complement it. But given the prices for everything Eurorack and the limited space in my travel case I would absolutely trade in my Crave for this Grind.
Why not have all three? I don't see overlap from Crave and Grind.
@@CookinBeatloaf you must have the vision of a blindfolded myopic bat not to see the overlaps between the 2
Id just finished paying for the New behringer K2 MK2 And whilst looking for a vid to wet my appetite Saw that THIS JEM ❤❤❤🎉🎉 .... Was On Sale ..😮😮😮😮🎉🎉....
Just Bought iT on ,,Gear for Music,,,😅😊😊😊😊❤❤🎉🎉.. Happy Days..
Whoa , is his their stab at microfreak ?? I’m stoked!!
With Behringer it's like this: you put money aside for their model B1. Then you fall in love, Behringer announces B2. You get engaged, Behringer announces B3. You get married, buy a house, you guessed it, B4 is announced, but you can pre-order B1. By the time you fetch your toddlers from Kindergarten there's a package on your porch....
if I could have a relationship I wouldn't be buying Behringer synths
But the wife buys so much temu you can't find your parcels in the shitload
Cool addition to a cool series. Very nice demo! And the fact that NO patch cords were used shows the huge sound capabilities this little box must have - awesome!
BUT, I'd wish the MOD LFO SHAPE had a S/H setting too for those random blipper notes :P
I see an 'Assign' out, hopefully it can be set as S&H or R&H like in some of their other synths.
@@turbochargedfilms It's doable, yes. I have a Crave and love it, but also wish it had LFO /S/H directly - plenty of space for a threeway knob :P
Two things I didn't hear mentioned were voice count and sequencer length. Based on the crave etc I'm guessing mono and 32 iirc...so that's worth taking into account. For me this could make an interesting bass machine with those specs, but I like some polyphony for most other things.
Would love to see that at least one of the engines becomes poly
Very impressive...
Great job , Dudes! 😎🎛️👌🏻
Looks and sounds great but where the hell is the Spice?
THE most pertinent comment anyone will make!
The spice must flow..
@@MattSpendlove He who controls the spice, controls the universe.

The spice extends life. The spice expands consciousness.
It looks GR8!
Nice surprise, looks pretty cool !
Ideally they would have swapped the ladder filter to a different one aswel like a diode ladder, OTA or CEM for variation as the crave and the edge have the same vcf. Or even better a digital one with different modes just like the oscillator..
Nice one Berhinger 👏👏👏
Love this - only wish was that you had put your IR3109 filter in instead of the ladder. The bass deserves to THUMP! Love when you guys do novel things!
Nice work fellas
I wish this had been announced last week. My Brains arrived on Monday
