I have a weird issue with this PS3 I bought, it was DOA when I got it as i'm looking for a "cheap" PS3 to game on I figured it was the power supply. So I got a replacement and it's doing the same thing, no power. However I unplugged the power cable several times and I eventually got power. It seems if I unplug the power cable 5 - 15 times repeatedly it will eventually power the board. Have you ever come across this issue? If it was a fuse it wouldn't get power at all but in this case if I unplug it and plug it back in it eventually works.. very weird.
I know this video is old now, but, I have a similar issue with my PS3 Slim. It worked fine until I installed a simple temp gauge inside the system, and while I was installing it I was checking the voltage using my multimeter, and the tips of the probes touched each other while they were touching the PSU wires, and the system beeped and turned on for a second and then shut off after a second. Now ever since this occurred, the system always does this if I try to turn on the PS3 Slim console, now that it's fully finished. The PS3 will start up for about 1 second, and then just simply shut down without any flashing lights, without any YLOD beeps or anything. It will stay off until I hit the power button, and that will get the standby light to glow red, and then if I hit the power button again the PS3 will turn on , and then shut down after 1 second. I have plugged the unit into the outlet, and I checked the 4 little wires that lead from the PSU to the PS3 console, and it seems that the power from both ends work fine, as I touch the far left cable and ground, and also when I touch the far right cable with the ground, I seem to get power, but the 3.3volt standby wire outputs nothing. (The wire directly near the ground wire in the middle of the 4 wires. Is this why the PS3 wont start up? I have no tuning pots, as my PS3 is like yours in this video. The CPU and GPU should be fine as the console is like new still, rarely used, and worked like a dream before I took it slightly apart to install the temp gauge. Can you help me find the issue with this ps3 please?

My PS3 works fine but then switches off after about an hour with a little click, and is left with no red light. In order to turn it back on, I have to turn the mains plug socket off and then on again, and then the red light reappears and I can start the PS3 up again. Any ideas?

My PS3 fat let's me stay on the PS3 menu forever, but when I go to gameplay phase, it shuts down after 5-20 mins. I never cleaned it in the inside, originally it would shut down when reaching the gameplay part, on the second try it would let me play without issues, after cleaning the dust it shuts down consistently in the 5-20 mins mark. Thoughts? I get YLOD + 3 beeps and then constant red light flash.

I have changed the two capacitors 16v 1500uf and Still have the same issue.. When I turn on the ps3 it turns off immediately but when I press by the power supply it self it will work... Maybe it is a board issue

Liked your video & subscribed. Possibly have an associated problem. Have been watching some videos to find a repair but have not found one that works yet. I think I have a hardware problem and need a new part, but not sure. Problem possibly appeared after our town's electric went down. I think I was using PS3 Slim at the time, but don't remember because PS3 seemed to work OK after. I don't always play it consistently enough to notice, sometime going weeks or months between. However, we had to have the phone company come in and repair some internet "things???" along the wiring in the house to get internet again. None of our TVs were affected. I am very mechanical but am intimidated a little by electricity. I have 2 more broken PS3 Slims, one without a HD, I saved for parts which I was unable to fix, lacking the understanding of what parts might need replacing. I am a trial & error sort of learner and also unsure if the problem is actually a hardware issue or just computer glitchiness! I play the game, making several saves along the way plus automatic saves at 10 min. intervals. About 15-20 minutes of play, the thing shuts down. At that point the PS3 is black, no red light at the On-Off button. I can press the ON button and get the red OFF light, then again press and get the green ON and it restarts right away. It gives me the message about the system being turned off improperly and possibly needing to rebuild the file system storage if it is corrupted. It never takes more than 2 minutes to repair, so I don't believe the file system is actually corrupted because it says it could take 2-3 hours if it is. It appears to hesitate at 43% for a moment or so, but then completes and the system is again up and running, ready to shut down the next time I play. It is taking the fun out of playing. After searching for solutions on UA-cam, this is what I have done so far. I have unplugged it and let it sit for an hour. I no longer leave the controller plugged into the system to recharge while playing or after turning off the system. I have deleted the game downloads from the disks under Saved Data Utility that I was playing and reinstalled them. I tried to go back into the latest save and replay. Problem recurs. I started a new game under a new player. Shutdown recurs in first 10 minutes. I used the fan test to eliminate dust. No remedy. Mostly I have a green light and occasionally get the YLOD blinking while playing, but not on the beginning screen where you get the XMB even if it sits that way for half an hour. It has never shut down while watching UA-cam, even for hours. On one of the old systems, I had both the YLOD and RLOD before I understood the dust problem. I apologize for the lack of correct lingo, but the old system possibly had a problem with the "eye" that reads the disk because I occasionally got bright light streaks emanating from the center and across the screen during play. My daughter had mercy on me and bought me my current identical refurbished PS3 Slim for Christmas of '16 when I could not repair the old one after buying an upgraded HD and doing other things to get it to stop the blasts of streaks coming across my game field. One video from YT likened the "eye" to a light bulb burning out. I did not understand that at the time, buying a new HD instead. I actually got more extensive quest interaction and story-telling from the characters, (mostly I play Oblivion & Skyrim) but the streaks of light recurred. I installed the upgraded HD into the refurbished box and played it for more than a year before having any problem. I cannot tell if the problem could be coming from this upgraded HD, possibly being damaged from our town's electrical problem or just heat from play because sometimes I can play for hours, not giving the gamebox a rest! Can you tell me if this is indeed a hardware problem or if there could be an easier fix than taking the thing apart and replacing a part? I fear the soldering gun, and cannot find anyone in my local area that repairs gameboxes, and presently I cannot afford a new PS4.
KastleKitty check hdd connections then try another hdd, but if you have proper DC voltage going to main board then can be the main logic board is bad check eBay for parts.
Tampatec, Funny thing: After testing some other games, they do not crash! Just Skyrim, which was in PS3Slim when electric went out. Do you think the Skyrim disk itself could be damaged from outage??? I did erase and reinstall game with no success. I have not heard of this before.

Hello there, I have a PS3 model 3001 and when I connect it to power, no light, no fan, nothing lights or turns on... I bought a new power supply and still didnt fix the problem, then I went ahead and bought a voltmeter and checked for the 5v on both power supplies and it turns out both the old and the new one are working properly. I am thinking about putting the mainboard in the oven at 425 degrees for 10 minutes and see if it fixes it.. any help would be appreciated!
I forgot to add that I also purchased the power ribbon cable that connects from underneath the disc drive to the power / eject buttons in the front and it didnt work either.

Harlem World sony lcd tv kdl- models are known for bad tcon boards, 1st turn off room lights and use flash light then press tv menu button if you see dark menu screen backlight is out so it's possibly bad inverter board but if you have backlight glow on the tv then replace tcon board. Shopjimmy.com sells boards with warranty.
Sony NEVER EVER reflow the console, that is bullshit. Re flowing a motherboard is not a permanent solution. If you send console in Sony they will replace the motherboard. And they ask a ridiculous price for it.

mine says 4.72 volts is that bad ?

GTA 5 requires around 16gb total on ps3, but an 8gb min
I checked the fuse on mine and no continuity plugged in no voltage.

Harlem World sony lcd tv kdl- models are known for bad tcon boards, 1st turn off room lights and use flash light then press tv menu button if you see dark menu screen backlight is out so it's possibly bad inverter board but if you have backlight glow on the tv then replace tcon board. Sony NEVER EVER reflow the console, that is bullshit. Re flowing a motherboard is not a permanent solution.
If you send console in Sony they will replace the motherboard. And they ask a ridiculous price for it.
