That'd still have to go to 1 for me personally. I still love the trilogy just like you though. Looking forward to whatever they do in the 4th hahah
Ya sorry that's not really true. They make u think it's a dark rpg with death around every corner but after the first chapter the characters decide not to kill anyone anymore and simply "knockout" everyone u beat. Chapter 5 had me quit cause the game takes a nose dive with regards to the story. Reminds me of the cringe stuff from Xenoblade x. Perfect example would be a quest to get a new hero character. It turns out someone the hero thought was a friend had been manipulating them all from behind the scenes to have them suffer, which led to the loss of many of her friends lives. When the truth comes out she protects the monster who betrayed them all because hurting ur friend is wrong. The kind of bs dialogue u expect from bad kids movies.
@@MrArrow54 Mentioned above, my opinion of the game after beating it changed. I can agree that for the Fiona hero quest it was oddly paced and her actions fell flat without more needed context. You can actually find notes sprawled throughout her colony later but it does just come down to a generic JRPG trope of "That's my friend and no matter how evil they'll always be my friend." You see it a lot. In regards to it not being a "dark rpg." The game actually does revolve around death. The entire game is literally that: death and rebirth. Ouroboros, infinity, a never ending cycle of death and war. The reason the main party decide not to just kill everybody is because people on Agnus and Keves's sides are just being manipulated. They're not actually evil, just doing what they were raised to do while unaware of the truth the main party now has. Which the game actually tackles directly now and then like Manana asking if the party are villains since they killed a lot of people too just like everyone else. Why go out of their way to murder people who don't know any better? The main party goes on and still continues to kill moebius whenever they can despite a select few. As well as a few agnus or keves soldiers that are unwilling to accept the change. I don't believe XC3 is a masterpiece, the story actually fell flat for me in a lot of parts for the last 3 chapters among other issues but it definitely succeeded in establishing a tone for a world where life from birth to death is constant war and all that comes with it. It's dark.
@@Wabasi I'll agree the death theme is prevalent but the villains are so cartoonishly evil that it never feels as dark as it should. I get what ur saying about death being at the forefront but it feels kinda glanced over. Not sure how to express it properly but it kinda lacks the emotional punch you'd expect a harsh society that feeds on death should have. I never felt the same dark gravitas u get between the conflict in xeno 1. The thing that sealed it was the end of chapter 5, I never had any doubts who n was and the major death that happens at the end was poorly executed. Totally ruined the game for me to see our character so pitiful when he never tried to summon his real sword like riku suggested. He just gives up like an idiot I was hoping he was gonna get executed by that point.
This is my first Xenoblade game and I don’t know why I never played this series sooner. I’m having a fantastic time! Also, if you’re playing on Easy, there are still plenty of opportunities for a challenge along the way (plus you can change the difficulty during play)
Great scores all over the board. And since its not Zelda or Mario people cant tell me its "cause of Nintendo mascot". Just hope the preorder copy will arrive early enough. Dunno if I could hold back to simply double dip it with a physical and a digital version. @Anonymous Turkey people are playing game rips of 3 on steam deck already. And if you aren't into the story, that is fine, but I don't think calling it poor is apt. The translation keeps pretty well in line with original Japanese, so cultural jokes and innuendos that are odd to western audiences persist, but in terms of religiopghilosophical explorations and arguments, Xenoblade games are cream of the crop.

Have to say that this review is sooooooo much better than what IGN did. Happy to see comments regarding the game itself and not complaining about not having “good” graphics. Such a Great review! I am so hyped to play this. Just finishing Xenoblade Chronicles DE.
What a great review. I tried to play all what I wanted this year before XC3 release, because I feel I will be playing this game for 6 months... like I did with XC2.
Finally got round to this game. Xenoblade 2 was such a disappointment for me that it killed any excitement I had for this game. But I gave it a go, and holy crap it is so much better than 2. It addresses pretty much every single issue I had with that game. It feels much more tonally consistent with the first game, it's more grounded, the characters act like real people and not anime tropes. The map design is more open and less segmented feeling, the RNG blade stuff is gone. Now I can just mentally pretend 2 never happened and go on loving the franchise again. Huzzah.
Solid, concise review, but you completely forgot the music! Mitsuda and some other guest artists at their best. As much as I love all Xeno games, 2 got a bit cringy to me with the constant anime tropes and overdramatic fight scenes that overshadowed the flow of actual gameplay. Oldtimers like me have gone through Takahashi's Xeno works since '99, with the first game being unapologetically dark and mature. Since then, his games have fluctuated to various degrees of maturity. 3 is giving us what we've echoed for a dozen years; back to themes of loss, questioning the world's order, children literally bred to fight, human-recycling, and many others. The JRPG scape needed some trope-shattering, and I believe 3 has delivered.
How does Sony has FF? The only main FF that Sony has is FF16 If you count remakes, then an argument can be made for FF7 Remake and Rebirth, but FF1-15 were all in Nintendo and/or Microsoft systems. And if we go on the Spinoff territory, the majority of them afe on Nintendo systems.
NL has me sold on not only this game, but THIS SERIES!!!!! I've never played XC before, but it seems to be a breathtaking and vivid world to immerse yourself in. Def picking this one up over the weekend.
Just tidying up Xenoblade Chronicles 2's DLC story, Torna: The Golden Country, which I bought years ago but didn't start until a couple weeks ago. Just got the 88th person out of 89 for all the Community stuff. I think all I have left to do are to beat the three Golden Beast superbosses and the final boss. I might actually finish this in time for Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Well this is the most easy to understand combat wise...Probably cause this is the only one that Stops everything to give you tutorials.I think they took the criticism of XC2 a little too badly.
I’m with you, struggled with the combat in 2 for a while until I watched a tutorial. Once it clicks it’s super fun. I definitely think it’s worth the learning curve!
That's because there is nothing to learn. You just auto-attack, and trigger arts. It's a terrible system. XC1 had excellent combat because your arts weren't built up from your auto-attack, and just had a timer for cooldowns. Oh, and you could attack while moving in the first game, which you cannot do in the newer entries. So yeah, XC2 and XC3 gameplay blows chunks, don't waste your time.
Ended up getting both Xeno 2 and Xeno 3 physical copy instead of getting back into Pokémon buying Diamind and Violet. Xenoblade Chronical is my top rpg of all time and didn’t bother 2 due to negative reviews before but might as well get into it before going into 3
So far, I have played about a third of the first game and think it is great from the world and story side but the combat system trips me up a bit and some of the leveling systems are annoying and not very clear. Great to hear this is the most intuitive combat system so far. Honestly I’d jump in if it weren’t for Persona 5 releasing in October. I know it is a ways away but I’m still working through SMTV and even if I could cram a 100+ hour game in before October I think it might fatigue me a bit on starting P5R which is similarly long. Definitely going into my RPG playlist but I think it is likely to be a bit before a space opens up to actually play it.

I had a hard time getting into Xenoblade Definitive Edition’s combat system. I felt it was too convoluted. But these games look so amazing! I wanna get into them!
Yeah I’ll admit, that DE and the original game has my least favorite combat system. I prefer every subsequent entry’s battle system. XC2 was a huge improvement in combat.
That was my first reaction to it as well. But once you get the hang of how it works, it's actually not convoluted at all; it's just different. It doesn't take long before you're operating it without even thinking. The original Xenoblade is one of the most satisfying and cathartic games you will ever play. I've finished it on three different consoles and can't say that about any other game. Hope you give it another go someday; it's an absolutely magnificent game!
Ok fine, you’ve convinced me. I got xenoblade 2 a bit ago and started it but immediately got turned off. The thing is I think I would really like these games but I just need to give it a real honest shot. 10/10s are hard to come by
I just started playing a couple days ago and omg 😮 I’ve never played anything like this I’ve never cried because of a game . I’m only barely 5 hours in and omg the story is so gripping and beautifully written if I could I would sink my whole day into this game . I never thought I’d love something like this because of the battle but I set it on easy and I’m loving every single minute I’ve played so far .
Fantastic review! Really well written and incredibly well transferred over to video format. Keep the incredible contact coming! I just beat the game two days ago - 110 hours well spent. Now it’s time to go back and destroy every single unique monster!

Literally, the only reason I haven't bought this one yet is because I'm still wrapped up in XBC:DE lol. I beat Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii... then when I got the switch I finished XBC2, did the same with XBC2: Torna, then purchased XBC:DE and have been super into playing through it (and yes, it's worth replaying, even if you have already played in on Wii and 3DS... the OG version for the nostalgia and to see what you missed way back when, the 3DS version to see what that same world would look like in true 3D, and the Switch version to feast your eyes on what the game would look like when released in this day and age - which is a stunning improvement that shows you just how much graphics have changed in just a decade... totally worth it). Once I'm done/satisfied with completing it + the DLC, I'll finally play through and beat XBC3 because I'm dying to know the rest of the storyline. I really REALLY want to send them my money LOL. It's just not the right time yet... But giving them an IOU, I promise I will hahah. Still really wish Xenoblade Chronicles X would come out for the Switch too... I'd buy that one as well. It would be nice to complete the entire collection on one single console. Anyone else agree?! It's a pipe dream, but I sure hope they would port it over someday!

Already so excited for this game, hope it lives up to Xeno standard
it surpasses 2 and X easily, didn't beat it yet, but it look like it might even be better than 1
@@fieldkaiju I believe it won't be as good as x and 1, but it looks like its gonna be better then 2, imo ofc.
This is my first Xenoblade game and I don’t know why I never played this series sooner. I’m having a fantastic time! Also, if you’re playing on Easy, there are still plenty of opportunities for a challenge along the way (plus you can change the difficulty during play)
Same here, this is my first one in the series. I got too good on normal and had to crank it on hard.
Great scores all over the board. And since its not Zelda or Mario people cant tell me its "cause of Nintendo mascot". Just hope the preorder copy will arrive early enough. Dunno if I could hold back to simply double dip it with a physical and a digital version. Has been hyped for it since its announcement and quite honestly, monolith soft is a development team that deserves every penny.

And if you aren't into the story, that is fine, but I don't think calling it poor is apt. The translation keeps pretty well in line with original Japanese, so cultural jokes and innuendos that are odd to western audiences persist, but in terms of religiopghilosophical explorations and arguments, Xenoblade games are cream of the crop.

a HUNDRED hours? Sign me up now. I've been waiting for a game like this for a while. I haven't been excited for a game in a while. It's refreshing.
Finally got into the series earlier this year in anticipation of the hype surrounding 3. I recently beat Xenoblade Definitive Edition on Switch and had a blast. Some parts of the story felt generic to me but I thought the gameplay, graphics, and music were phenomenal. Not enough time for me to buy and beat 2 right now. Pre-ordered 3 and am eagerly awaiting to dive into its lush, beautiful world. I gotta play it day one! From what I’ve heard this series seems to tell a different story each game, like Final Fantasy, so I’m not worried about playing them all in chronological order.
Well, about that. Xenoblade 3 connects the stories of the previous games, so you should probably play Xeno 2 before 3.
@@b3nde874 dang thanks for the insight! oh well, I’m not too concerned. the story was the least captivating part of the first game to me, seemed like pretty typical JRPG anime trope stuff. guess I’m more-so in it for the vibrant world, the colorful graphics, awesome gameplay & music. I’m alright with there being a lil mystery for me to uncover later on when I go back to 2 🤣

six month here as well hahahahahah. Almost 250 hrs of 99%ing the game
Huzzah.
Yeah 2 sucked and makes it hard to get into 3 is it worth playing

Always glad to hear zion voiceover a jrpg review.
Sony has Final Fantasy, Xbox has Elder Scrolls, and Nintendo has Xenoblade.
I REALLY WANT THIS GAME but I still struggle with learning the combat mechanics of the previous ones ☹️
Watch some tutorials on UA-cam and just practice with easier enemies. You'll get the hang of it! Totally worth it.
Well this is the most easy to understand combat wise...Probably cause this is the only one that Stops everything to give you tutorials.I think they took the criticism of XC2 a little too badly.
the tutorials in this game are gonna be much better!!

I've just come across this review and I'm so glad to find an outfit that feels the same about this awesome game as I do. I've played several JRPG's but this is the totally best I ever played. I love having the time to see all the characters grow and change, the missions and quests where you can take time off from the mind boggling intensity you sometimes get in the main story. The amazing environments we travel through. All the people and things which makes the world an alive place, not just you against the monsters. I could go on for ages but I will only mention one more thing, I'm just blown away by the voice acting. Thanks for the review.
I'm actually currently streaming Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and getting through as much of the story as I can before Friday comes. I can't wait for this one. It looks awesome
Was a bit worried when I heard that the combat was similar to 2, but you have got rid of my doubts. I'll pick this up tomorrow!
Why? 2’s combat has some of the deepest combat of any RPG ever
@@hiotsobo I just found it really clunky and difficult. I know other people loved it, so it could have been a me-problem rather than with the game itself. Having put over 20 hours into 3 now, though, I can say that the combat is, in fact, amazing: so I'm really happy!

Man, I got to finish LiveALive by friday.
DE's system was simpler than 2's, but somehow they made the tutorials worse when remaking the game.
I prefer 1s combat lol
Ok fine, you’ve convinced me. I got xenoblade 2 a bit ago and started it but immediately got turned off. The thing is I think I would really like these games but I just need to give it a real honest shot. 10/10s are hard to come by

The story is hitting me hard, on chapter 4 rn. The battle system is very fun and has more flexibility than xb2!
I’m on chapter 3 and not really getting the same feeling
When would you say the story starts getting good?
It's not as colorful as xb2 and xb1 but it's just more real. I really feel mio's urgency to get things done as I'm on the later end of "prime Age" and am not in spots of life that I want to be.
I personally felt extremely hype at the end of chapter 2 when everyone started merging and "weight of life" came on for the first time

There needs to be a Xenoblade MMO
One weird thing I noticed. The game also displays some enemies at a distance, but when you see a flying enemy from a distance their wings' animations look static and like their glitching out, but when you get close enough, the animations display properly. I normally don't notice those kinds of details, but this one quickly caught my eye.
The further the object are the lower animation count. It's a common technique to optimize performance. It's been there in XC2 too.
