- The Silver Swan by Orlando Gibbons (b.1583 - 1625), sung for ClassicFM by members of The Gesualdo Six.
Listen to other similar works on the ensemble’s first album, ‘English Motets’, a programme linking two hundred years of music from medieval and Tudor England (available here: bit.ly/2Fmp8Od).
“Weavers of rich and plangent aural tapestries, The Gesualdo Six meld style and substance with beguiling sure-footedness. An auspicious debut.” - BBC Music Magazine
The fine-grained texture of solo voices allows us to savour the amazing harmonic pungency of English sacred music, which at times seems almost modernist. It is a wonderful achievement.” - The Telegraph

The silver swan, who living had no note,
When death approached, unlocked her silent throat;
Leaning her breast against the reedy shore,
Thus sung her first and last, and sung no more:
“Farewell, all joys; Oh death, come close mine eyes;
More geese than swans now live, more fools than wise.”

Makes me cry. Gibbons knew his gifts so well. So many qualities and musicianship of the singers; such riches. Love a nice bassy bass homer on the final cadence. Congratulations gents.
Sounds great gentlemen! That last note with the bass though... it just RINGS! Rock solid!
Great balance and dynamics; perfect tempo. As always a lovely, very satisfying performance. Love the bass!!
Fucking fabulous. "Chills down the spine" good.
beautiful performance!
It’s perfect!
Good blend, lads. Well done indeed.
Great sound! Congratulations.
Good day очень красивая песня мне очень понравилось спасибо за музыкальное видео thanks very much goodbye
Wow, absolutely stunning!
Inspirant et très beau, bravo!
Merci de faire perdurer notre culture européenne. Magnifique.
Exactly as it was voiced in 1612. Beautifully done Gentlemen.
Superb!
Excellent
Superb
A lovely performance. One question: why call themselves the Gesualdo Six when I can see only five singers?
Hi George - the piece was written with five individual parts and so to have two singers on just one line would overbalance this piece (in our opinion). We often perform with different forces, and hope you might enjoy some of our other videos (often in six parts!)

Maravilhosa a voz do baixo!
Acredito que é o rejente do grupo.
Tenor foarte bun.
Why omit the repeat of the second section?
Anyone else watching this for online school
Magnificent performance!
And so is the chapel. Would you be so kind as to tell what church this happens to be?
Hi Georgii - we recorded this in Ascot Priory, UK. It's a lovely building!

Finally, I figured out what part Park sings.
Yes, and he sings it beautifully - - well focused voice, but not too penetrating - - a firm foundation and nice balance throughout all the parts
This man can sing deep bass and countertenor. I think he might easily sing coloratura soprano!
@@pierre-jeanlarmignat3166 I'm not sure anyone would like to hear that...
I had heard this with the high line sung by a female alto. I'm not familiar with the original, so which one is a transcription?
Is Johnathan still preforming? Is he a tenor?
Gesualdo Cannot-Counts, apparently.
What key is this in?
in this performance, Eb major (modern pitch)
