- The British vocal ensemble, Apollo5, performs Orlando Gibbons' (1583-1625) motet 'The Silver Swan'.
The silver swan, who living had no note,
When death approached, unlocked her silent throat;
Leaning her breast against the reedy shore,
Thus sung her first and last, and sung no more:
“Farewell, all joys; Oh death, come close mine eyes;
More geese than swans now live, more fools than wise.

A breathtaking and heartfelt rendition, I can finally linger on these magical chords and one of my favorite poems. Thank you for giving it such heart!
This pace is perfect. The lovely sadness of this song, from the intonation to the balanced harmonies...you will not find a better rendition. Fantastic!
Priceless! Gibbons doesn't get any better than this 🙏
This brilliantly written choral piece makes every part sound like a different melody of its own, especially the tenor and soprano parts.
what a stunning blend....
Stunning performance, you got it soooo right.
So divine.... ❤️
When I was part of Madrigal group in junior high we were told this was the most perfect music ever written. It could supposedly be sung upside down or backwards
Wunderbar!
Best version on UA-cam!
Prachtig!
Nice shot! Thanks for the performance!
So beautiful
I just listened to one rendition of this that sounded like they had a bus to catch. This is far too slow.
