The biggest issue is the rust that may have began to occur which it looks like it did. That is a bad idea, as rust spreads to other components quite easily, and not to mention that computer components DO NOT use stainless steel materials.
It's my birthday today, and I was kind of down because of dumb life crap, but this video gave me the feel goods and raised my spirit a bit. Thanks for doing this for Spencer, LTT and Craft Computing. Yall are some top tier good folks. Good to see people taking care of each other.
Hey Linus Thanks for doing this. As someone who lost everything in the Camp fire I totally understand what this dude's going through. Seeing something that brought you so much joy a pile of ash is totally something that's just crushing. You guys did an amazing job rebuilding this for him. Kudo's to you guys for everything you do it's amazing!
I actually gasped when I saw the devastation in the area that that Spenser lives in the video from Craft Computing. With all the strife and conflict in the country now, this was a class act from both content creators.
Every time I watch vids like this, it reminds me of how its time to upgrade my aging PC. Its like watching your dog that has been loyal to you forever grow old. Congrats Spencer.
Linus obviously means well, he is giving the old PC a nod in the new build, making it personal. He probably didn’t realise the toxicity issues or oxidation and flaking issues, perhaps he isn’t familiar with old tech and metals, how it breaks down and probably usually, mostly only sees very new tech for what would be a relatively short time compared to some of us who still have a i7-2600 knocking around. I applaud the guy, he’s doing some good in a world that needs it.
@@alisonaussie4995 quite the contrary Linus has hardware from almost 2 decades ago in his warehouse. the thing is that if Linus revisits old tech he usually only benchmarks for a day or two, also he hasn't really had and fire experience expect for that time his server room nearly caught fire
Damn. Glad you guys were able to retore a bit of his life back to him. My apartment caught fire on April first and I lost everything. It is tough coming back from that. This actually brought a tear to my eye. You guys didn’t have to do this, but you saw a man who lost a big part of his life and stepped in to save the day! I can only imagine his face when he gets that. Most Canadian thing ever done on this channel I think it’s fair to say.
@@BGTech1 yeah... copper and aluminum have a much lower melting temp than steel. Aluminum and copper tend to melt pretty easily in a firepit but you'll usually find that steel nails are just left in the ashes as long as they were not too rusted in the first place.... Then they don't melt but turn to metallic dust instead. Just by looking at it, most of that case was probably steel to be honest...
@@j-frame Completely untrue. We have to examine the mass of each component as well. You're never dealing with JUST energy. It's energy, over an amount of time, in a certain mass. This is why you can't melt a huge block of aluminum with a blowtorch, but you can literally set aluminum on fire with a regular lighter. Try it if you don't believe me.
Fun fact: That shiny thing Linus put on his head is a head mirror. Doctors used to use it when examining a patient's ENT area. They are no longer used outside of ENT clinics, as small flashlights have rendered them obsolete but they are so stereotypical for what we perceive as a "doctor's outfit" that most costumes still ship them. Although, this is a rather poor example, the real ones have a hole in the middle through which the doctor would look.

Well you not patien of you dead
Hoped that they cleaned the mounting bracket, wouldn't want ash to fall off and block airflow.
or have metal flakes fall into traces/pins...instant death
Well, he didn't
The biggest issue is the rust that may have began to occur which it looks like it did. That is a bad idea, as rust spreads to other components quite easily, and not to mention that computer components DO NOT use stainless steel materials.
Hope it was for a joke. While it won't instantly murder his brand new PC, it is risky leaving a rusty bracket sitting around in there.

I hope Spencer listed it as, "computer needing minor repair" on the customs form.

"slightly used"
Plot twist: iron filings/flakes from the burnt.out bracket flake off, cause a short and burns this pc down as well.
..... and the guy's house as well.
It probably will or it'll completely break off and ruin parts of the system. That metal isn't safe to use anymore. Linus fucked up.
So in some alternate universe, they are doing a Part II follow up video.
Damn. Glad you guys were able to retore a bit of his life back to him. My apartment caught fire on April first and I lost everything. It is tough coming back from that. I have my PC back now with plenty of upgrades but it will be years before I can replace it all, so this video hits a bit harder in the feels for me. Thanks for being a bright, burning light in an otherwise depressing situation. It is heart warming. 😋
Sad to hear. Losing data can be a huge downer
@@piaresquare5424 Yeah... That was the half joke I got to tell for a few weeks.

Noctua: Sometimes our hardware survives a house fire
All of the copper and aluminum parts must have melted in the fire
1085 degree Celsius is the melting point of copper. There won't be anything left of the pc if the copper also melted.
Even fire doesn't want to have to do anything with the color brown.
I feel sad for the guy that has to clean up all the rubble on the table.

Just commenting to let you know that this fun fact is appreciated.
this was a fun fact indeed!!!! have a good day man!
In my last year of medical school and I have never seen one of these (haven't spent time with ENT though).
thank you for the cool fun fact
At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what exactly is the ENT area?

9:48 I was so hoping for a drop tip there...
7 years ago I lost literally everything in a house fire. My life has never been the same, and it was devestating. We didn't have insurance, we had literally just moved to the apartment, I was young and didn't realize that you had to have rental insurance, I was specifically talked out of it by my landlord because it would have required an inspection. If someone had done this for me then, it would have been life affirming. You've done such a good thing, it's so hard to explain the feeling of loss when literally everything you own is gone, this is such a wonderful thing.
Those stupid bots
sure lets just re-use the rusty cindered metal brackets thats just flaking all over the new hardware , Linus you worry me sometimes

@@kysco unfortunately it would be so good of a reminder that it would remind your motherboard of what death feels like, due to it not being able to apply tension, and rusting it within weeks
@@kysco But it's burned. Metal isn't immune to fire, even when it looks intact. It has corroded a lot, since corrosion/rust is just slow burning.
I would assume Linus or Alex or someone would have had the sense to suggest at least giving the bracket some kind of clear sealcoating. Keep the look but not the flaking.
Watched the craft computing video afterward... You can tell Spencer really appreciates his new goodies by the way he lays the monitor screen side down directly on to his desk 👌 yeah I'm jealous
