been detailing for the last 3 years and have been able to make around $60/hour and has helped me pay my way through school, buy a car, help with bills, and so much more as well as perfect my craft in detailing. Even after college I will still be detailing on the side forever something that is needed and profitable especially in California.
Stewart Riding this is very motivating to hear. I am an avid detailer, as a hobby for now, but I'm thinking about starting to do it as a second source of income in the weekends when I'm free. Going to try and start this January.
It's been so hard for me to figure out pricing and still be competitive. This last year my new customers and the repeat customers who have been telling me this every year for the last 4 years. I don't charge enough so raising my prices in March. I know I am going to take a hit from potential customers that have never heard of me before. Most of my new calls compare me to the two quick wash places here that have multiple people working for minimum wage that don't take pride in their work. I do explain the difference so the bargain shopper usually goes to the competition. Thanks for the advice.
I'm not doing a car for under $50 my prices is $50 & up depends on what you want done how far i have to travel car truck suv rv boat. Do you want a basic in & out. Wash wax claybar or a full detailing my prices can go from $50 to $1000 and up know your worth and do a great job so people will always want you back.
I'm looking at starting a detailing business on the side. Detailing my car has been a lot of fun. Looking at it from a business stand point, these are essential videos. Do you have others on marketing?
Christian Burt start your marketing with Facebook and Instagram. Then, do your research on how much people charge in your city, call around. Call surrounding cities within an hour’s drive.
I started detailing years ago as a weekend hobby, nothing big.Its always been by appointment here at home.I would charge $90 to $200 depending on what consumer wanted.I would get 2-4 car Saturday and Sunday.I've always used meguairs or 3M.Sooooo,after so many people telling to go mobile,I finally did.I quit my job as a Bodyshop manger.Let me tell you,its been difficult.I live here in El Paso tx,border to Mexico. It turns out that there is a lot of these people people coming over doing detail wash amongst other jobs,.....theybgive this shit away for $15.00 for basic wash and $30.00 for detail....WTF??????These people make there money and take it Mexico where rent is like 125.00 a month. Any suggestions?????....I'm trying to stay competitive, but its a hard.I bought a van and other equipment to be professional, these people opperate out beat up vans and don't speak English.People here are stuck on price point...... Sucks.....
Hold your head up high and keep pushing forward. All you have to do is do such a good job with details that you stand out above those guys and make yourself in a bracket way above their services. I see a lot of people in my area that will detail a whole car inside and out for $40. But I have over 200 5 star ratings and I do my best work on every car that I can to insure that my price is worth it. Don't forget people get what they pay for
That's a bit of a moving target. Glass polishing is a whole other animal. If you know your hourly you need (I have another video on that) and can estimate the time required, that's your number. Glass polishing is hard work though, so depending on what the windshield is in, it might be cheaper for the customer to just replace it.
StillStandin777 For an easy example, if you drive your truck to a detailing job, those miles, fuel, etc. are business expenses. The polishes and cleaners are business expenses. If you pay for lunch for your crew, also business expense. However, if you go out to lunch with your cousin with no business relationship at all, personal expense. Lighting for your shop is business, lighting for your bathroom in your house, personal.
Lol, ok. You said in order to know what rate to charge per hour you need to add all bussiness and personal expenses and divide it by a sertain number (either per year or monthly or weekly). You said something bout 30 hours per week charging either $30 to $60 per hour depending on the economy of different states. I know english but sometimes I get confused....lol
StillStandin777 Oh yea, that refreshes my memory, let me see if I can simplify it for you. You're basically trying to get to an income number where you're able to afford to live AND afford to run the business. SO, if all of your expenses together (personal and business) are $4000 a month, then that's $1000 a week ($4000/4 weeks). If you are able to bill 30 hours a week, then you'd need to get at least $33.33 an hour for each hour billed in order to break even. Of course, breaking even is just the start, so if you actually want to make a decent profit, you might start with $50/hour if your market will support it, which would give you $6000/month ($1500 per week x4), and a theoretical $2000 profit over expenses. It's rarely that straight-forward, but it''ll give you a guideline.
How can one convince a customer to bring his car to me to do a complete decontamination and high quality wax application for 50-75$ when there's these pakistan washing stations that claim they 'wash & wax' ur car for 6$ on the corner of every single street in my city...
show them results. show them that if they spend the more money on you, that you are worth it. use good products and do a good job. just provide the best work you can to everyone and be very friendly. that's what I'd try bud. good luck!
Aaron Mattheus Fucken foreigners fucking up everything,......I live in a border city to Mexico, and these Mexican come with beat shit cara and do it for $15.00 for basic wash and for full detail $25.00.......
In this world you pay for what you get! A $6 wash and wax, is worth $6! Do not expect that all the parts hVe been cleaned, that they do not contaminate the water and scratch the paint, leave more swirl marks on the paint that when you came in. The bottom line is, if you are driving a 10 year old car and is only worth 1,000$ the client is not going to spend 75 to a 100$ on their car! Plus, you do not want that car owner as a customer! Shoot for the high end new car owner, professionals that do not have the time to do it themselves and that they want a quality job. Remember a satisfied customer always comes back!

When you say to divide my personal & business expenses, by what i divide it? Gimme an example. Thanks.

I see I see, but by what I divide that to? You said divide by.....in order to know what hourly rate to charge.
StillStandin777 Sorry, can you give me a video time so I can refresh my memory, it's been a while since I shot this.

Probably can't :-) I have dealt with people who really don't care about quality. If he is going all budget, he may not want to change
I don’t know why race plays a factor in being competitive, if customers go to them it’s because they must like the price, don’t be a hater
I think it's hydrophobic beeding I think it's called.
