@M God knows why, watching a bunch of guys fall down every time some wind off another player hits them and faking an injury while crying to the ref is only entertaining to knuckle-dragging idiots. Prime Example: England. You'll have a better chance of finding an inhabited planet than finding intelligence among the general population, and they love soccer.
@@kevintucker466 he never needed it to do anything other than take the single season record away from McGwire, and top Hank Aaron. He's likely a 550 to 600 HR guy without them.
Game 6 of this series was one of the best pitchers' duels you could ever hope to see, Avery vs. Drabek. Avery was dominant, Drabek, gutty as always, pitching with a bad hamstring. Game was scoreless til the 9th, Atlanta won it 1-0.
One thing- In the 91 season(and IIRC 92) they didnn't have Maddux. He was still with the Cubs and signed as a free agent. They did have Steve Avery for the 1st two seasons of the run and he was a left handed fireballer.
@@jbobbster The Braves didn't win more World Series' in the 1990s because of the bullpen. The starting pitching and usually solid offenses could carry them to the NLCS and beyond, but the relievers let them down. The 1991 Braves ran into a fantastic Minnesota Twins team just four years removed from their 1987 World Series win. The Blue Jays' 1992 championship took a decade of building, while the Braves had just arrived. If the expansion era didn't ruin MLBs talent pool for a decade, the Braves would have had a better bullpen in the late 1990s and would have probably beaten the Yankees in 1996.
I'll never forget how depressed I was after The Braves losing Game 5 of The 1992 NLCS....going back to Pittsburg down 3-2. After coming so close in 1991 in The Game 7 of The 91 World Series against The Twins (SCREW Kent Hrbeck).....to be on the brink of losing The 1992 NLCS...was a painful prospect. However the pitching of Avery and Smoltz...fantastic. That was the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to Pittsburg being a contender for the next 25 years, lol.
Jack Buck at 1:30 - "Pirates fans saying Barry, if you're ever going to do it, do it now. But no." Old-school style call by the legendary baseball narrator. He would have been better received by fans today than he was back then.
3 of the four Pirates losses in this NLCS were shutout losses, including back to back in games 6 and 7, both in Pitt BRUTAL And the Pirates won game 5 with the score of 1-0
Back when mlb games were focused on the actual sport and the most fun to watch! The players didn't need new, expensive uniforms for each game. Neither the fans nor the teams needed glamourous, luxurious stadiums. You could easily afford to take your family to several games in the same week during regular season because stadium costs and players' salaries weren't so outrageous.
Take note Joe: If you're going to be understated, have an awesome/iconic voice like your father. Also, I watched this as an unabashed Braves bandwagoner (seeing Oberkfell, Horner, Murphy, Virgil, and Mahler get blasted during the late 80's because TBS showed all the games didn't make me a 'fan') and I was shocked. The Braves weren't just bad...they were putrid when I was a kid. Worst to first is one thing if you're the Twins and had won a title not too long ago (1987). The Braves sucked from 1983 to 1990.
Their offensive stars didn't show up. Their pitching is what got them to a 3-2 series lead. But the offense went into a coma after scoring the 1 run in Game 5, as they failed to score in the final 22 1⁄3 innings.
I would've rather had Smoltz for a big game than any other Braves pitcher back in the day.Smoltz always showed up for the Big Games.
Glavine got us the ring tho
Straight Facts bro Smoltz wanted the big game all the time...

Avery was the best pitcher in this series. He came through in a huge way when the Braves needed it.
Greatest pitching rotation of this era. Look how small Bonds was.
ANDREW MORELAND bigger=steroids to you? What an idiot. Also Babe Ruth used steroids, what do you have to say about that?
and still the NL MVP in 1990 and 1992 with his small size
@@DarthVxderTV Look, I think that Bonds is the Goat but seriously Babe Ruth used steroids? Are you kidding me?
got even better in 1993 when they added Maddux.

John Smoltz....first-ballot Hall of Famer....
& He did made it last year's [2018]!
I'm convinced he was the best ever
Jack Buck will always be my favorite voice for post season baseball. Something so cool, so wonderful, so magical about His calls.

Steve Avery was the NLCS MVP 2-0 ERA 0.00
Steve Avery was incredible!
I miss those days. I also miss those stirrups or whatever they were called.
Pittsburgh was shutout in 3 out of 4 home games this series.
And they went the final 22 1⁄3 innings without scoring.
Bonds was a choke artist. Couldn’t show up for the playoffs.
@@crowtservo and he couldn't throw out the slowest man on the planet the next year
Never gets old. Ever.
i have been looking for highlights from this game forever. Sweet memories...love it!
Smoltzy is a true hall of famer.
Early 90s Braves had the best pitching rotation in all of baseball.
Big game pitcher…Postseason 15-4 ERA2.67…
That had to be one of the best bullpens of all time. They had Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux. That's just ridiculous.

Alex Cribb One of the best rotations, but save for 95, they couldn't win when it mattered.
Specterling why is this still looked down upon? like if they DIDNT win a championship even though they did???? stfu moron scrub

Yep when pitchers pitched complete games Smoltz my favorite Braves player of all time was a work horse
Before u get a free runner at second in extra innings. Stupidest rule ever!
Great memories

THEY WERE AWWWWFULLLLL back in the day
2021 World Champions

I had a T-Shirt with the front page of the next day's AJC on it: a giant picture of Greg Olsen straddling John Smoltz.
Great pitcher...
They should post that up there.
What a nightmare of a series. We should have won.
love that moment
It is Jack Buck!
0:09 what a normal Barry Bonds looked like before he juiced!
Bonds/ Bonilla= Choke
Daniel Rause And Van Slyke.
How do you think Neil Walker learned how to hit in the playoffs?
that's an unclean slider right there.
How the hell do you lose games 6-7 at home? The Pirates were a great regular season team, however in the playoffs they just did t know how to close
Cuz the Braves were just better

who is this announcer? great voice!
Jack Buck, dad of Joe Buck.
This was the Pittsburgh team that should have won the World Series.
1960 Yankees should have won the World Series.
the 1990 team probably was better overall than the 1991 team
Felix Mendelssohn cause that’s what this is about
Can we please bring the three out of retirement?
I think Jack Buck
He had hair back then.
F yes barry bonds
He would go on to become one of the worst sports broadcasters in history.
