  • HarmonyOS Coming Big On PC In 2024
Recently, there has been a significant buzz in the tech world surrounding the potential impact of HarmonyOS on personal computers (PCs) in 2024. HarmonyOS, developed by Chinese tech giant Huawei, is an operating system designed to provide a seamless and integrated user experience across a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, wearables, and now, PCs. With its ambitious plans to enter the PC market, Huawei aims to challenge the dominance of established players like Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux. In this detailed post, we will explore the anticipated arrival of HarmonyOS on PCs in 2024, its features, potential advantages, challenges, and the implications for the broader tech industry.
    *Introduction to HarmonyOS*
Firstly, let's delve into what HarmonyOS is and why it has generated so much interest and excitement in the tech community. HarmonyOS, also known as Hongmeng OS in China, is Huawei's proprietary operating system that was officially unveiled in 2019. The primary goal behind HarmonyOS is to create a unified platform that can seamlessly connect and control various devices, providing a cohesive user experience regardless of the form factor or screen size. The operating system is based on a microkernel architecture, which enables it to be lightweight, flexible, and scalable across different devices.
Initially, HarmonyOS was positioned as an alternative to Google's Android operating system, following the restrictions imposed by the U.S. government on Huawei's access to Google Mobile Services (GMS). However, Huawei has since expanded its vision for the operating system beyond smartphones and tablets to encompass a wider range of smart devices, including IoT products, smart TVs, and now, PCs.
*HarmonyOS on PC: What to Expect*
The news of HarmonyOS making its way to PCs in 2024 has sparked speculation about how Huawei plans to differentiate its offering and compete with well-established PC operating systems. Here are some key aspects to consider in relation to HarmonyOS on PCs:
    1. *Seamless Ecosystem Integration:* One of the key selling points of HarmonyOS on PCs will be its ability to seamlessly integrate with other HarmonyOS-powered devices. Users will be able to enjoy a unified experience across their smartphones, tablets, wearables, smart home devices, and PCs, with features such as cross-device file sharing, app continuity, and synchronized notifications.
    2. *Improved Performance and Efficiency:* HarmonyOS is designed to be more resource-efficient than traditional operating systems, thanks to its microkernel architecture and distributed networking capabilities. This could result in faster boot times, smoother multitasking, and improved battery life on PCs running HarmonyOS.
    3. *App Compatibility:* A critical factor in the success of HarmonyOS on PCs will be its app ecosystem. Huawei has been actively working to build a robust app ecosystem for HarmonyOS, offering developers the tools and incentives to port their apps to the platform. By ensuring broad app compatibility, Huawei aims to provide a seamless transition for users migrating from other operating systems.
    4. *Security and Privacy:* Security and privacy have become increasingly important considerations for users when choosing an operating system. Huawei has emphasized its commitment to providing a secure and privacy-focused experience on HarmonyOS, with features such as enhanced data encryption, secure boot process, and permission controls. These aspects could be particularly appealing to users concerned about data privacy on their PCs.
    5. *Customization and Personalization:* HarmonyOS is expected to offer a high degree of customization and personalization options for users, allowing them to tailor their PC experience to suit their preferences. This could include customizable themes, widgets, gestures, and other features that enhance user productivity and comfort.
    *Advantages and Opportunities*
The introduction of HarmonyOS on PCs presents several potential advantages and opportunities for both Huawei and consumers. Here are some of the key benefits to consider:
    1. *Diversification of the PC Operating System Market:* The dominance of Microsoft Windows in the PC operating system market has limited choice for consumers and stifled competition. The arrival of HarmonyOS on PCs provides a new player in the market, promoting innovation, driving competition, and giving users more options to choose from.
    2. *Integration with IoT and Smart Devices:* HarmonyOS's strength lies in its ability to connect and control a wide range of smart devices seamlessly. By extending HarmonyOS to PCs, Huawei can create a more cohesive ecosystem where users can leverage the interconnected nature of their devices for enhanced productivity and convenience.

I refuse to synchronise all my devices using the current software availabilities (all US sourced) due to their extensive spying and advertising. Harmony is looking to be a good alternative and something where I will consider synchronising all my devices.

Instead of saying that HarmonyOS disrupts the PC market, it would be more precise to point out that HarmonyOS is the last line of defense against American attempt to disrupt the Chinese technological advancement, just like the Google's Android sanction on Huawei ordered by the U.S. government.

Then make your research, it's fully Open source, not anything like you've ever seen before, neither on windows or macOs

HarmonyOS NEXT: This is Huawei's primary, closed-source operating system, built on a microkernel and supporting native applications via the Ark Compiler with Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) Core.
OpenHarmony: The open-source version, donated to the OpenAtom Foundation, based on the LiteOS kernel, and intended for low-memory devices like IoT gadgets and wearables.
While OpenHarmony is open-source, the main HarmonyOS NEXT used on smartphones is not. Huawei has also open-sourced some components like the Ark Compiler and the HarmonyOS Engine.
I hope it becomes fully open-source.
