C919 may be a better and safer plane but that itself may cost them their FAA and EU certifications. Only China certification that would permit it to fly within China and countries around China. So airworthiness certification may now determine the safety of airplanes but of the planes owner's political alignment. MAS is facing this attack now.

The US government has chosen the unfriendly way by adopting extreme measures to sanctions and blockade in order to save their own products. I don't see why China should not do the same. Let's see who can restructure better and faster and emerge even stronger.
