At -15 in a dry climate you can jump out to get firewood in a T-shirt and not get cold. At -23. You need at least a sweater gloves and a tuque. You can get frost bite in minutes. Your eyebrows and any fuzz or exposed hair freezes and stick together instantly. At -40 you don't dare go out without being fully dressed. It will kill you without precautions. Your breath hangs in front of you like a small cloud.
Everyone in this video was adorable. Keep warm, snow bunnies! It's cold here, too, and I wish I lived in a house with a fireplace. For now, we bundle and cuddle and drink some mulled wine! :)
Use a hiking layering system of thermal base layers, fleeces, dry quick synthetic trousers and thick socks and waterproof footware... hat, balaclava and gloves with a waterproof breathable jacket. Eat before going out and take regular snacks.
I went to Iceland and only had the outfit I was wearing and the one I packed. Key for me was bringing the appropriate clothes and layering (merino items are a must for me plus anything that is moisture wicking). When out on my tours I had a sports bra, tank top, base layer, fleece, shell, rain jacket. Two pairs of leggings on, merino wool socks, water resistant faux fur lined boots (this was the only boots I could find last minute). Beanie (not merino wool, wool gloves, and while out on one tour I picked up a merino wool buff. The coldest it got was -10 at the lagoon we went too people who seemed dressed warmer then me were freezing and everyone was trying to huddle in the coffee/gift shop tbh I was a little cold as -10 was a new for me but I was warmer then 75% of the people there.
In the US we call them "Long Johns" I put them on whenever I go outside, from October thru March. I live in Michigan. We get very cold and cloudy winters, with lots of snow.
*Ten or twelve layers is the BEST tip! You won't be able to bend any of your joints, fit through doors or be able to sit in a car or a chair. So of course you can only "stand still" and "stay inside"!*
Always have a scarf with you, and wrap it around your nose and mouth if windy. Frostbite can happen in 15 minutes and it is very painful! Cotton is the "death fabric", choose fleece instead. Have many layers so that you can take off some if youre getting heavy exercise and sweating. You don't want the sweat to get cold and stick to you. Don't get wasted if you have somewhere else you need to be for the night; people do get disoriented and freeze to death sometimes. Try not to drink too hard, and keep active as possible during the winter. Good luck!
I really want to visit Scotland but think I can’t handle the cold and I’m very skinny. Even when I was little I was never used to the cold I even wear a sweater even though it hot. From people who always live it hot weather how did you survive the cold weather if you move to a cold climate?
Go in Summer you fool. Go in June, July, August and it will be 15-20 degrees, it is currently 23 degrees in Scotland as I write this. I am Scottish, it is not as cold as places like Russia or Iceland.
Wool. I couldn't fall asleep last night beaucause of the colt. Until I found an old, thick, tightly woven wool blanket from my grandma's time. In Sweden they're mixing it with synthetics so you could wash in 40 degrees C.
Thanks BBC, i dont know what i would do without you, lived here for 37 years and this is the first time i have ever experienced a bit of snow. It really never crossed my mind to do the obvious. Really bbc, do you think we are stupid?
hey cut off some slack. i live in the himalayan region and as a dumbfvck as i am. i didnt knew about these stuff: layering ecws yadayada and wearing skisuit onesies and hood scarf and cowl scarf and all; balaclava with dicky. so there are a lot of stupid folks like us out there. simpleton to the bone T_T its helpful so i dont mind this but i get it its the same shit there. i survived many winters on food stamps and wearing barely anything. yes we are poor and ignorant who can afford to watch bbc and thinks its somehow posh now XD
In Scotland, always have an umbrella. I can handle the cold, it is rain that pisses me off, it just dribbles all day long. Buy an Expensive, Large Umbrella that is wind resistant.
Consumption of hot and/or sweet drinks will cause the body to lose energy since you will have to work harder to maintain a consistent body temperature. stick to room temperature or warm NOT HOT drinks if possible. Second, do NOT wear more than 4 layers as it will restrict the body's breathability making the likelihood of becoming cold greater since you can not circulate body heat properly. -Fellow Canadian
I do the simple thing to adjust my body for cold. I do not throw on extra clothes. I just embrace the cold as it comes. By the time temperature falls in winter you will find me walking around in a T-shirt. Because we are animal and your body can adjust to the weather just like most animals. As cooler temperatures come your body makes you eat more and a special layer of fat start to build up to protect your body. In the spring the fat starts to leave.
I don’t mind eating more in winter but I don’t want to be fat or walk around naked in winter. Some cannot adjust to cold or hot well. I would shiver all the time in a t shirt during winter
North doesn't automatically mean cold and south doesn't automatically mean warm. Turkey is relatively in the south but gets -20c to -40c easily due to the very high terrain.
I like , how they say drink warm liquids , like cups of coffee and milk . Yes , and when you go outside you are pissing yourself . I myself always go to the toilet before I go outside " even if I don't want one . because I know , as soon as I get outside ' I will want one 🇬🇧 .
Are you deaf or do you not know what RP sounds like?? Only the woman in Austria (who probably is British) speaks in RP. The guy from Newcastle has a Geordie accent, while the rest sound like they're from their respective country.

Yeah, the cold makes you sober, wasting the alcohol.

@@ConstructiveMinds100 Thanks for the reply, 3 years later, but actually I was being ironic. Merry Christmas.

That's for an arctic expedition. If dogs can survive the weather, I can in a light jacket.
I hate it when the temperature is below 0 for more than a week yet there is no snow.

Hahahaha Serbia is not a "cold country", esp if you get up to 45º in the summer, it's just a colder winter this year than usual
Siberia gets a max of 35C each year not 45 lol. Make sure you do your research. the whole of Russia never got to even 44C.
Are you from Serbia, can you confirm?
or have your sense of feeling removed so you never ever have to feel cold again, or anything again, even pain.

European governments should start issuing free thermals. Like food banks offer free food.
