    Thank you for this very helpful video! I have a 2013 X5 E70. I suddenly had limp mode while driving on the interstate and code 2C01. The vehicle was difficult to start the next time I drove it. The 2013 X5 has a different kind of HPFP, which seems easier to replace, but you may need to solder a new connector for a change they made to the HPFP around 2014. FCP Euro pulled up the correct one with my VIN. The rest of the repair was the same as your video. So thanks again!

    My 2012 E70 N55 is bucking/surging under boost/hard acceleration. Im tuned on MHD stage 1. Ive changed the boost solenoid, vanos solenoids, fresh one step colder plugs properly gapped and also new eldor plugs and still get the surging. At this point i am highly leaning towards my hpfp being no good. Looks like a pretty involved job though, i did my valve cover last year which was also pretty involved but saved so much money in labor!

      Hey Gil, sounds like you'll be having some fun when you get the kinks worked out with your upgrades.
      I'm sure you can handle the HPFP repair, they are notorious for having issues. Ours was a little easier to diagnose since the main issues was difficulty starting. Would take longer than usual before the car fired up.
      Good luck with your project, Cheers!

    Hi there, what are the symptoms for this?
    My one X5 e70 2010, is stopping while driving.
    When try to start back, the engine is cranking but not starting at first button push, only 2nd or 3rd. After it does start sometimes does cut out again after couple of seconds.
    No lights coming up in the dash.
    Took to 2 different garages, nothing come up on testers, no injectors issue or anything else.
    Do you think is something related to the pump, pump relay, glove plugs relay? Did you came across this problem?
    Thanks so much.

      Apologies for the late response, for some reason I never got the notification from YT.
      All of the symptoms you are describing lean towards the HPFP being the issue. There were lots of issues with the fuel pumps on the N55 engines. I went ahead and replaced the low & high pressure sensors while I had it apart just so I knew everything was fresh. Hope you get it figured out.
      Cheers!

      Thanks so much for reply.
      Yes, it took a while to find out the problem, changed all the relays, sensors, glove plugs and glove plug relay, but it stopped again.
      The code came up after I drove it in that condition, and was injector no 5.
      They reckon that is something specific to x5 as is related to the water from screen shild getting behind the bonnet and on the engine.
      This is what they said, so now is sorted, thanks God .

      Glad you enjoyed the video Nes. I would not hesitate in purchasing the OE Supplier Remanufactured Fuel Pump from FCP. Especially since you have a Lifetime Guarantee with your purchase. They are most likely an OEM BMW one or Magneti Marelli cores being used.
      Like the pricing for everything these days, it has gone up significantly since we performed this repair on the X5. The OEM BMW ones is almost $1200! that's crazy.

      Hey @nes286 thanks for the question. Glad to hear the video got you up and running. The first step would be to run a scan to see what the current code is. It may just be leftover from before the repair. That will give us a starting point to see what the next steps will be.
      If you don't have a code scanner handy, you can always just unhook the battery for 15 minutes to see if that will reset the light. Otherwise you can stop by your local auto parts store to borrow their scan tool.
      Let us know what you discover, Cheers!

      @@BradleysGarage Thanks Bradley,
      I checked and the codes are for the throttle body, P110D and P0222. I pulled the throttle body to check connectors and cleaned).
      I also viewed a video by “Easy Auto Diagnostics “ and used my volt meter and found resistance that read .135k ohm’s , supposedly should read 1.5k ohm’s . Continental TB (6 pin , position C,E).

    • @BradleysGarage
      @BradleysGarage  Рік тому +2

      Hey Nelson, I would double check everything is plugged in correctly. The throttle body and position sensors rely on voltage readings and communicate with the ECM. If there is not proper voltage these codes will appear. Most of the time it will be related to the connector not fully seated or unplugged completely.
      I would start there first before moving on especially if these codes were not present prior to the HPFP repair.
      Let us know how it goes, Cheers!

    Hi Bradley I'm curious about the DME located under the Intake Manifold.
    I was told by a mechanic that my DME needs to be replaced. I have been having issues with P Codes regarding the Throttle Body after I replaced my HPFP. The Car starts and I was driving it with with Reduced Power Malfunction Check Light .
    Took it to a specialized Beamer Shop and they went into the BMW diagnosing Rabbit Hole.
    the last thing was I need o replace the DME. But they pointed to the DME located on the Passenger Side. Any experience you can share regarding this?

    • @BradleysGarage
      @BradleysGarage  Рік тому +1

      Hey Nes, not sure what year X5 you have but the DME on a 2011 is located under the intake manifold as shown in our HPFP video. It would be pretty rare under normal circumstances for the DME to just go bad.
      What BMW software are the techs using for the diagnosis? INPA or ISTA
      What codes are you currently getting?
      Did you also replace the Low and High pressure fuel pressure senders at the same time as the HPFP?
      We are not aware of any DME located on the passenger side but there is the Power Distribution Box on the passenger side front cowl. Sometimes a fuse can get blown in that box and cause various issues with different aspects of the DME. This box should "protect" the DME from any unforeseen electrical damage.

      I had the car towed to another BMW specialist so far added a new battery will know tomorrow. Again thank for taking time to respond.

      @BradleysGarage  Рік тому +1

      @@nes286 I'm hoping the new shop has access to the actual BMW software since the "P" codes can be pretty generic and not necessarily provide the correct repair direction.
      It's a good idea though to make sure you have a good battery. Even one that is a little weak can cause all sorts of issues on these Bimmers.
      I would just go through all the connections again to make sure everything is fully seated and connected properly. It might be as simple as a connector not fully plugged in.

    Hi, i replaced the HPFP but when i started the car fuel is leaking from the top connection and maybe the bottom too. Is there a gasket i need to put, when i removed it it seems like there was not any. Please help.

    • @BradleysGarage
      @BradleysGarage  3 роки тому

      Hey David,
      Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your HPFP install. The fuel pump uses an o-ring to seal the pump housing to the engine block. If this were leaking it would only be leaking oil and not fuel, since there is not any fuel next to the drive gear.
      The metal fuel hoses are a compression type fitting and do not have any seals. I would make sure they are free of any debris and ensure they are properly tight. I did not do anything special when reinstalling those fuel lines. I simply inserted them into the pump and tightened them up.
      Not sure if you are working on the exact same N55 based X5 but hope this helps you figure out the issue.
      Cheers!

    Hi Bradley, great video, you're a great teacher. I have a X3 2012 35i F25 N55. They changed the pump style on 04/2012 but mine is the same pump as yours pre-04/2012. Mine doesn't have a low pressure sensor.
    1-Can I expect pretty much the same layout and access work to get to the pump with the X3 as the X5? The diagram is the same as yours. DME location? (Can't find the diagram)
    2-What is the cleaner you used on the Manifold before putting in the new gaskets?
    3-What BMW software should I use for the post-diagnosis and code clearance? you mentioned INPA or ISTA? Could you suggest a particular low cost handheld scanner for BMWs? The faulty part diagnostic was done by a Euro cars only specialist but I want my own scanner.
    4-List of tool bits needed? Someone mentioned a 5mm HEX wrench bit.
    Thanks in advanced. I ordered the parts today from FCP, my first major car repair, it looks like a long process but strait forward thanks to your videos.
    -Stephan from Quebec.

    • @BradleysGarage
      @BradleysGarage  10 місяців тому +2

      Hey Stephan, thanks for the questions. The layout will be the same as both the X5 and X3 use the same engine. You are correct the X3 doesn't have the low pressure sensor on the fuel line next to the HPFP as it's just a solid metal pipe. But the access and removal will be the same as shown in our video.
      With regards to the BMW cable and software, you will need an ENET cable to properly code an F25. ISTA+ is a great program but difficult to download (for free) and get running on a laptop. INPA used to be readily available to download on the BimmerGeeks website but it looks like it got pulled down. In addition, I don't think it has support for the F25 anyways.
      There are also a number of aftermarket scan tools that can access most BMW functions. It really depends on how much you'd like to spend or if you want to mess around with finding and downloading software to a laptop or just buy a scan tool that's ready to go.
      Here are a couple that we have heard good things about but have not personally tested ourselves:

      Unfortunately the X5M/X6M have the S63 engine which is a different layout than the N55. The good news is the S63 HPFP are easier to access than the N55. Here is a decent video where a guy is changing the injectors but the first 15 minutes of it will show you how to gain access to the High Pressure Fuel Pumps. I did not unhook the battery before doing this repair. I guess it's probably a good rule of thumb if you are unplugging anything electronic to unhook it.
      I would definitely check your battery to make sure it's not low. These Bimmers are very sensitive to voltage, so if it sat for awhile, there's a good chance it's the problem.

      @@brownjap2554 I would definitely try to save it with a charge. The worst that can happen is it won't hold a charge and you have to get a new one, no loss for trying.
      Sitting for two years connected will drain the battery completely. If you don't have your own charger, you can drop it off at your local auto parts store to charge it for a day on low amps (1-2) to try to slowly bring it back to life. Then they will be able to test it to see if it's actually holding a charge and providing the correct amount of CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)
