Saved this because I didn't get all the details on first look. Excellent set of tips, thank you.
You’re welcome, thank you for checking out the video!
That remote grades tip.....daaaaaaaamn! That's gonna change up my workflow a lot!
Yeah, buddy! They were a game changer for me.
Excellent tips, thank you. I'm currently at the start of a new project and this has helped me hugely.
You’re welcome, best of luck on the new project!
Your videos have save me so many times. Great content, Jason. The community really appreciates it.
I appreciate that! Glad my videos have been helpful! 😁
To build on Jason's golden tip, you can also just select the two bins, audio and video, and sync. This way, you do not need to select individual files or even know which files to select. Just select the bins and DaVinci Resolve will figure it out. Appending sound works best if you have multiple microphones so you can select which track to use. This works perfectly. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking out the video! Thanks for adding in the info about the syncing. Great stuff that Resolve can be 'smart' about it. 😁
Does this mean we can skip the "Based on Waveform" selection?
After selecting the folders with the footage and sound files and clicking on the mouse's right button to open the context menu, you select either timecode or waveform. I assume most people watching this channel only use time codes occasionally. Select waveform and append.@@ShobaSadler
I like the intro. Thanks for the tips, Jason.
Thanks! 😁👍
Hey Jason, being the first to comment, I don't think I've ever been any earlier for one of your videos!
Thanks for a great video & valuable information.
Awesome, thanks for checking out the video! I appreciate you!
Very helpful, thanks.
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!
I fear most keyboard shortcuts because I usually have stacked tracks that stretch up & down (also left & right) beyond my view and tragedy has struck when you don't know how many tracks will be affected by the shortcut. All my videos are < 10 minutes so sometimes I will go to the trouble to Fit all tracks & clips into view, then apply a shortcut that I'm really desperate to use so I can see any accidental result. Speed of workflow means less to me than accuracy of workflow, and being retired means "Time is not very much money." 😁 I do appreciate all your tips, however, because they have hidden lessons in them! Tips 1 & 2 in this video are tremendous! 💥Caution💥 I read somewhere I think, when you drag a top level folder of your assets into Resolve, if you drop it in the larger Media Pool panel Master rather than the leftmost Master Bin, your folders are ignored and all the individual files from those folders just dump into the Media Pool. I haven't tested that- I just read it somewhere. Thanks for posting these tips!
I use alt+y almost every time i open resolve. Extremely useful. That Remote Grade feature seems incredible! Hadn’t heard if that before! Thanks Jason!
Glad it was helpful!
I was just binging your stuff yesterday and you upload a new video an hour ago. what a legend. haha! hey you have a good day
Haha, awesome. 😜 Some weeks are a little slower and some weeks I can get more stuff out. 😁 I did notice you dropped a few comments over the last few days. I appreciate you man! Hope the content is helpful!
@@JasonYadlovski you know we got your back!
Great tips, Jason - thank you sir 🙏.
I especially liked syncing your audio from different bins 🤘
Thanks Gary! Yeah, being able to select multiple bins is sweet! I just learned that one recently. 😜
Another great video! Keep it up, brutha!
Thanks! Will do!
Absolutely awesome tips, every one of them. Thanks Jason!
Thanks! Glad they were helpful! I appreciate you checking out the video!
thanks for the nice tips, Jason! Can I ask what the effect used at 00:18 to make the "storyblocks" logo appear is? Is it custom or a pre-made one? Thank you!
You’re welcome! To make the story box logo appear like that, or use the logo, which was just a PNG file and then I put one of the standard Davinci resolve transitions on the front and end of the clip. Off the top of my head it was either the circle or spin (or something similar) fusion transition. It’s a standard transition.
Thanks for you tips! Remote Grades is cool. But, I just tried it, it's a bit confusing - the feature is activated by right-clicking on a clip, but it affects all the different files in the timeline (and there's no way to grade the clip individually if needed?). Clip Groups is another musthave feature that realy simplifies workflow.
Have you seen or used the "tour box" editing device? It looks really interesting, but is it worth it?
I have seen it, but I've never tried it. They wanted to send it to me a while back, but I decided not to try it. I just don't see it being something I'd use. If I was gonna use a device like that, I'd get the BMD Speed Editor.
Thanks for the tips! I've learned a lot from you but it was nice to see a video filled with techniques I use every single day. I am a huge fan of remote grading and in fact change my preferences to make all new clips imported remote by default.
Awesome! That's great that you're using these tips already. Sometimes I don't realize the things I do might actually be good tips for other people. I have to make more vids like that - just showing what I use on a daily basis. I know I love to see peoples videos like that. 😜
Jason, thanks for all your great videos! I have a question regarding FAIRLIGHT: When I use effects like Dialogue Processor how do I make changes after closing that window?
You're welcome! if the effect is on a clip, select the clip, open the inspector, go to the audio tab and next to the effect is an icon that will open the effect window backup. If you applied the effect to a track, go into fairlight, open the mixer, and you can open the effect by hovering over the effect, then click on the middle section that looks like a few lines. That will open the effect window back up.
Found it! You're a life saver - I couldn't get to the original effects panels to save my life. Thanks a million!@@JasonYadlovski
Can I know how you add zoom in/out to this video? By using adjustment clip presets or keyframing on the video clips?
For the zoom in/zoom out, it’s just an adjustment clip that I can change the length of and move the keyframes easily.
For some reason, I can’t see my bus sends in Resolve 18. I have everything checked properly, I can easily make as many buses as I want, there are just no sends in my mixer on any of the tracks. Each track ends at the eq section just above the fader. I also can’t seem to scroll up and down like I’ve seen you doing in some videos. Support hasn’t been able to help me at all. Any clue as to why this might be happening? I’m on an m2 and everything else is flawless for me. This is driving me nuts though. Great video as always, your channel is complete awesomeness.
Hey! Sorry to hear you're having troubles. Are you sure you're in Fairlight? Sounds like you are. Try closing the meters at the top, then see if the mixer section will get bigger for you. I should be able to scroll, strange that it's not. I'm assuming that you also clicked the 3 dots at the top right of the mixer and checked on all the option there. Is it like that in every project?
Jason: you're speaking of Audio recorded of the same Subject with Multiple Mics. How does one SYNC Things recorded on Differant Recorders of thesame Event. Example: Video taping a R/C Model air plane with Remote Mics on the Pilots in the Camera all while recording the same Ambaiant on a Seperate Zoom H4n Pro? They have Both recorded Differans aspects of the same event at the same time. If remote Mics had 2 Receivers, one for the Camera and one for one of the 4 channels possible on the H4n Pro, it might be possible at least easier.
So in the case you mention, I think the best way is going to be just manually lining them up in the timeline. Unless you've got a good sync point right in the beginning of all the recordings, like a few claps, Resolve won't be able to line them up since they are different actual audio sources.
A little more advanced way would be to use some timecode sync if you are able to have timecode on all of the cameras/recordings.
Great Tips and Thanks for sharing!!! Question: How do I determine the "timeline color space" that my particular camera uses (DJI Action 3 or DJI Mini 3 Pro)? Or any new camera or phone video footage I use? Thanks in advance!
Great question! It should tell you in the manual I would think or just give it a quick google search and I'm sure you'll have the answer in no time.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to select all ahead or before of the playhead excluding the audio channels?
I think the only way to exclude the audio channels is if you lock them or turn off the auto track selector. Then use the keyboard shortcut. Typically I’ll turn off the auto track selector if I don’t want a track like my music track to move with the rest of the clips.
Thanks for the video, I'm just getting started in DR
You're welcome! Welcome to resolve!
Thanks for the tips. I'm a Windows users (sorry) and although Alt+Y selects everything to the right, Ctrl+Y does not select everything to the left. I'm using the lates version of DaVinci, 18.6 plus the patch. Any ideas?
Hi! I'd look in the keyboard customization settings and see what it's mapped to. Try looking for the one that's working and maybe you'll find the opposite of it and what the keyboard shortcut is.
7:33 You can also change to timeline grading in color page. Over the nodes where it reads clip. Change to timeline and it will effect to all clips.
That’s a great one too if it works for all of your clips. 👍
Thanks for the tips they are quite useful. One question: I am pretty new to Davinci and instead of remote grades I use adjustment clips and just colour grade those the way I want it.
Is there any argument against this method?
Adjustment clips works great too. No problem using them. Only downside would be that everything below an adjustment clip is effected, but if you don't have extra tracks below the adjustment clip, it's all good.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks a lot, yeah thats true but has not been a problem so far. I tend to work a lot with those and it helps establishing a nice workflow.
when I try to import a clip into the fusion part on Davinci Resolve, the clip does not appear.. can you help me????
Great tutorials Jason! Do you ever use Resolve to generate subtitles for your UA-cam channel, as the autogenerated ones are pretty good but miss some words?
Also, does Resolve have a shortcut to return to the last view? Say you are working in a zoomed-in section of the timeline then do a Shift+Z to fit all, then want to return to that original zoomed-in view and section?
Hey! I don’t use subtitles that often, I feel like UA-cam does a good enough job. It just saves a step in the process for me.
I’m not sure if there’s a way to get to your last few, other than zooming back into the playhead
Fab!
Thanks! 😜👍
Can someone please explain me how can i see the full clips in the timeline in the color page not just a blue line?
Go to the timeline view options and enlarge the video track. Or use Shift + Middle Mouse Wheel to zoom the clips larger in the timeline.
@JasonYadlovski Thanks a lot!
appreciated
Thank you for watching!

I'm trying to remember the tips I see for when I need them, but it's huge. I just have to keep Googling when I hit a problem. My current one is unfortunately not related to any of the above. I created a simple text over a rectangle to represent the scores in a rugby game. As the game progresses I want to update the score. I like the Write On feature to achieve this. The text flows off, the score is changed and flows back. BUT, if I apply Character Level Styling so that the two teams names and scores are in their team colours I cannot set keyframes to select when the score changes. Any text change is global across the whole length of the Fusion clip. I can have one or the other feature, but not both. I've watched countless videos and read loads of forum posts but no one seems to mention this situation.
Am I doing it wrong, am I asking to much of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm a noob on Resolve.
I'd think the easiest way would be to just have 2 text clips. You can over lap them a bit on the timeline so they don't totally disappear. Without trying it, I'm not exactly sure how to work it, but I think multiple text clips that overlap might do the trick. Maybe even use one text clip for the team names and another set of clips for the score.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to give that a go when we have our next game in the New Year.@@JasonYadlovski
idk how to use Templates. it doesnt really work for me. is it because im using the free version?
They should work in the free version.....
The shortcut for all clips forward/backword is so simple yet so powerful lol
💯!
good evening Mr Jadon, I have a small problem..
good evening Mr Jadon, I have a small problem..
REMOTE GRADES !?!.... 🤯. bless u dude .
Yeah man! They were a game changer when I learned about them for sure. 😜
Seems Like JUST 1 more thing to remember one did. I Prefer to Sync Audios in the Time Line, Yhat way I can Remember what is what and be sure of what goes with what. Just how my mind works I guess. But ofcourse the more I use Davinci (5 years now) the more things evolve I'd say. My Editing is just for FUN, Making a Living at it would be TRAGIC. Just another HOBBY I'd come to HATE.
I hear ya! You've got to do what works best for you. If you've got a good system you like and works, I'd stick with it. There's always so much to learn, I feel the same way. 😜 Thank you for checking out the video!
Is anybody having lots of crashes and glitches with the latest update?
Not here. But I’m in Mac and Macs seems to have less issues.
@@JasonYadlovski Yeah there's endless posts on BM Forum this past month about crashing on Windows. I have a dual boot win10/win11, and both are crashing bad
That's a pain. It seems like the issues area almost always on PCs. Resolve appears to just run better on Macs.

Jó a videó csak ezt az arcra való gyors rángatást felejtsd már el. Idegesítő.
What are you talking about irritating? 🤷♂️
@@JasonYadlovski I've already written it, but I'll say it again, when you talk, the camera zooms in on your face, which I don't think makes any sense, what you say is good, but this twitching is completely meaningless, maybe someone else likes it, I don't really, but the content of the video is independent of that you say, I think it's good. However, if we're talking anyway, I have a question. This resovle is a good program, but there is a shortcoming that appeared... it seems to me that it does not add up the number of clips in the bin, at least I can't find this option. Specifically, I have 11 filmed scenes, I would like to know the total of these scenes in minutes, how long the filmed material is. I'll just give an example in the avid media composer that I use, I select the scenes in the BIN window and it adds them together, here's how to solve this, thank you if you answer.
