Wow what an idea you gave me. I want to carve a caricature of a friend that is a woodcutter, love wine and books. Now with this pile of books you give me the right idea. I will glue the pile together in a messy way, and I will burn the name of his favourite authors on every different book. He will hold an axe and a bottle of wine, with this big pile of books next to him. Thank you a lot like always uncle Doug!
Doug, my name is Fred Lilly From New Jersey, USA. I love you shoes. I've been watching you for 4 years. Hello Bixby ever since I love carving and I can't stop doing it so thank you. I relaxed and I'm retired. It was a great gift, thank you.
Perfect to put with owl we just carved and make a scenery. Maybe even carve a tootsie pop..😂 love your carves and thank you. Because of you I am now a carver.
Awesome. I’m carving a Mahi-mahi, while the paint was drying I made 4 lil books for my brother (the reader with a huge library). So thanks for the idea!!!
As someone with a short attention span (I have inattentive type ADHD), I'd just like to say this video is amazing and I was very interested and invested in what you were saying and doing the entire time! These mini books look absolutely adorable and I'll definitely be making some the moment I get a chance
Jesus. Although other activities (not hobbies) keep me away from woodcarving for some periods, each and every time I watch one of your videos I feel the compulsory need to rush to my knives and start carving. You are the culprit I got hooked in this so beautiful and rewarding hobby, and Thank you for ever for that. You. Are. Awesome. You are one of a kind teacher for woodcarving. Thank you so much and please never ever stop gifting us with your videos.
Thanks Doug for the little book carving project, I had to try to do one myself out of scrap wood I had laying in a bucket for camp fire starter, the peace's were big enough for the books but not any thing else. I showed the little book I carved to my wife and she said cute, make more for Christmas presents.
thanks Doug, this will be perfect for my daughter who's a school teacher. besides now I know what to do with the scraps of wood I have lying around! I need to develop your artistic creativity, even though that's a gift and you certainly have it!
Low attention span comment, absolute love it, my first passion is trees/reading, my second might be carving. I will carve books from trees and see how we go. Again thanks
As a book lover who also loves wood carving and collects fridge magnets these are just the perfect project. So simple to do, yet so varied, and versatile. Lovely both to look at and to handle. Thank you for posting! I can see me making quite a few of these this autumn/winter
Thank you! The book ideas are a great inspiration as most of your videos are. You have taught me a lot about carving. I have been cutting up sticks on the porch in the back yard for a long time. Your videos have been very influential in my wood carving as a beginner. I’ll be 76 soon and wish I had started carving a long time ago. Thanks.
This is perfect - I read a TON but mostly from my eReader. But I admit, I do still miss having a physical representation of all the books I've read. Im going to build a mini bookshelf and carve some up, maybe print and glue on the cover art!
Great video as always Doug, a great challenge for your talent would be a tutorial of a sitting caricature sitting on one of your thick little books. I know you like gnomes. Thanks
I love that you’re branching out in ideas! I’m making small things for fairy gardens in the house and larger gnome gardens outside and little carved items are great to add personality to the displays. As a beginner wood carver, your videos help me to pick up the knives and just do something quick and help to keep my thumb calluses!
Great video! I have made a lot of your ideas. I really like following along. The lite house was a great one too. I can't wait to make my stack of books!!
Fantastic idea! What a cool gift for the teacher on the first day of school! I enjoy your quick and fun projects. How about carving a "fruit fly house" or "flea house"? I have made one out of one piece of scrap wood, about the size of your small books. It looks like a very tiny birdhouse, complete with a hole for the imaginary critters to fly into, and a little peg beneath the hole - you know, like when birds rest on it before they enter their house. Love your whittlings and easy projects! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool Doug! Lately Ive been carving lots of fun little things and these would make great little bases for some of them. 🤪. Thanks for all you do for the carving community👌
Was a fun project. I volunteer in the library here and will give stacks to various people. I expect. To paint Christmas colors and woodburned 2022 on cover book. I also found that I could burn pages with fine burning tip I used for feather burning on ducks when younger. I also found I had a 3 p#3 v tool that could put pages in. I used 1”,1.25” and 2” basswood. The 1” is too small but did work. Made 7 stacks, it was fun
What a great idea and ‘simple’ to boot. Been enjoying your many interests for several years. Started carving about then, too. Your methods are explained really well making them easy to follow. I, too, enjoy a coffee that actually tastes like it. 👍 looking forward to many more adventures that include carving and coffee. Oh, and fishing, too, as that has had ME hooked as a small child. Thanks for what you share.
Ah man this is sooo cool! I’ve done two of those mushrooms from your previous video from drift wood my dog found a while back, with little doors on them! I got into carving cuz of your videos bro. Have a great weekend eh🤪👍🇬🇧
Thanks Doug love the videos, just started carving, not so good at it but love to watch you I hope I get it. Love trying keep on making stuff for beginner's it really helps thanks Robbie....
"What are you gonna do with them? I don't know." HAHAHAHAHA! Can't wait to carve me some books! My daughter will LOVE them! Thanks again for the AWESOME tutorial! Cheers! Ooo! A pile of these glued together would make a great ornament for any teacher!
Wooowww, such a great project ! (esp. I work as a librarian ;)). Thx for this video - and all the others I’ll go discover right this way !! (just found your channel tonight…) Enjoy ! 🤘🙂
I’m addicted to this channel now. The Bob Ross of carving.

Perfect for the little scraps and off cuts. Big thumbs up for that.
Awesome intro! There's no other reasons needed to carve anything! This hobby doesn't need any justification, it's just fun! Great video as always!
Perfect to put with owl we just carved and make a scenery. Maybe even carve a tootsie pop..😂 love your carves and thank you. Because of you I am now a carver.
So cool. I'll be searching round the woods for a few bits in the morning to make some book stacks as book ends

🙋🏼♀️ low attention span here! My ADHD appreciates short, easy projects and books are one of my favorite things in life. Thank you for this video. 😁
Very clever idea, Doug! I may have to make one of these for my wife who is a poet and school teacher. She'll love this.
I am carving books from bigger block scraps and on the back writing out my top 10 reads of the year ❤️
Thanks, in a short time, I will be a member of this book club

Love the little whittles series. I’m a beginner and I love these quick little projects to help build my confidence and basic skills.
Omg, I absolutely love these! I make faux books out of bigger pieces of scrap wood, but maybe some day I'll try little ones like these
At first I was like books??? But after seeing it done and thinking more on it….BOOKS!!!! Neat idea Doug.
I love this idea, as you can carve as many or as few as you like and I think the pile of the books is very effective.
Thank you! The book ideas are a great inspiration as most of your videos are. You have taught me a lot about carving. I have been cutting up sticks on the porch in the back yard for a long time. I'm having so much fun with this one! Three books so far, and I think many more in my future.
There was a girl from Russia on instagram that did these really miss her… she carved rats and flower mirrors too. Thanks for bringing it back Doug!
Fantastic!!!!!! Great little carve!!! It's so " no stress " kind of piece. Thank you for all your efforts!!!
This is perfect - I read a TON but mostly from my eReader. But I admit, I do still miss having a physical representation of all the books I've read. Im going to build a mini bookshelf and carve some up, maybe print and glue on the cover art!
