When I started carving in the early 70s, there was nothing except for pictures of wood carved and painted by artist Barbara Hepworth. I didn’t learn to whittle with a knife until the 80s. In the 90s carving became popular and tools and instructions were easier to find.
Great video for a visual learner like myself. Loved the no talking or loud music, just the sound of farm animals in the background. I’m a doll maker and have been trying to learn to carve faces into a flat surface. I found this tutorial very helpful! Thanks for the video.

Very interesting! I learned a lot and thank you for pointing out directions with the pencil. It helped with emphasizing the wood grain and the direction to carve, as well as The different types of tools. I'm a beginner and I really enjoyed this!
Please also sow the tools used/ recently my daughter gave me present of two sets of total.. 12 of them! In my High school days I opted for book binding, which ,I was always First in the class!!

I've owned a couple v gouges... They weren't worth crap, you get what you pay for, but I don't know how to sharpen like I know I can. I will figure it out or die trying.
Not a tutorial. Pointing at something before you do it doesn't teach anyone why you're doing something the way you are with the things you chose to do it with. Way too many people on here film a thing being done, then label it a tutorial.
Tapping a pencil on a tool and then using the pencil to point to where to use the tool (twice) does not make this a tutorial. We can see the tool and where you use it while you're using it. Just an edit suggestion.

Is your bevel down on your flat chisels ?
Up on the convex areas. Down on the concave.
