- New beginnings can sometimes be fun, especially when it involves a new CNC machine. Follow me on the start of my journey with our new VTL.

Hi, my name is Andrew and I have been in the manufacturing industry basically since I was born. With exposure coming from my dad, I naturally took an interest in manufacturing and engineering. Now 24 years old, I have a passion for CNC machining and being in the business of utilizing fixturing, tooling, programming, etc. to make parts efficient while maintaining that dead-nuts accurate “DNA” precision.

It's not everyday you find a UA-cam channel with a guy that has a Vertical Lathe.
Looking forward to following along.
I'm sure you must have plenty of videos planned with your latest purchase.
Also interested to see what other work you do in your shop
Definitely a channel worth subscribing to 👍👍
Thanks man, appreciate that! I do have lots of video ideas and look out for something soon 👀
I have run VTL's since 1995. Started out on a Old Scheiss with a 4 tool turret and a 5' chuck. It had been converted to NC and then later on it was retrofitted again with a Fanuc 25i . At the time it was the oldest machine in the shop with the most sophisticated controls on it! LOL!! Ran that from 95 to 08 and then moved over to a Brand new 8' chuck vtl with live tooling. It's a pretty neat machine to run. My Father ran Big King vtl machines during his tenure as a Machinist. I have run plenty of other machines during my career but I always gravitate back to these monsters. Good luck with your new machine.
Super cool, thanks for sharing!
Very cool machine. Excited to see what else you can do with it!
looks awesome cant wait to see more vtl video's
CNMG-643 insert or was it a 642. I loved running VTL's. We had a 48" a couple of 60's and an 84" Giddings and Lewis. You could bury a 643 insert 3/4 depth and feed .016/rev and just pop off giant chips roughing it was fun.
Very cool relay good machine nice Video well explained :)
Had a guy come in our shop several years ago saying everyone has VMC’s, lathes, and HMC’s, but not many have VTL’s. He was covered up with work for his for a while. He’s out of business now. But there is a big shop in town that only does big stuff with several HBM’s and VTL’s. They stay busy. Takes a lot of investment to run big stuff. Should have bought his VTL at auction but don’t have the room for it.
VTLs are more common when it comes to large piece production (aerospace etc.), it's not that easy to pull those kind of jobs without investment of a substantial level as an independent job shop (as you mentioned).
It's more likely that bigger and established firms get those kind of jobs and just pull out 1-3 entirely new machines to just run those kind of jobs over a 5-20 year period etc.
Not to mention several certification requirements needed to even be allowed to run and deliver those kind of jobs in the first place (quality assurance, traceability, ability to keep deadlines while being cost effective and so on).
Awesome machine, can´t wait to see what else you can produce whit it
Nice man!
I love to join and see your journey.. Excited
Way cool! Looking forward to see whats next. Thanks for sharing
Appreciate that! Next video was fun to shoot. Coming soon 👀
Good work keep it up
It looked like you had the ground surface facing up, you then machined it true to the machine, can you explain what was the point of the grinding?
Nice machine. Looking forward to see more videos. Hope to see you around.
Look out for the next vid! Going to be having some fun with aluminum on a horizontal machine
браво
Very cool! Can you make me a Captain America Shield 😊.?Can’t wait to see more videos of future projects. 🤙🏻
That would actually be really cool 🤔 maybe a future video I could make it happen!
I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this huge disc 😄👍
Good video
Thanks!
It’s Vertical Turret Lathe, not Vertical Turning Lathe. Just a heads up😊
I have a couple of Mighty Viper VMC mills and love them but the company friggin sucks for support. Cool channel, looking forward to seeing more content.
The shop I bought has a Mighty Viper Mustang, I think when new it was a pretty decent machine, Years of neglect didnt do it any good.
@@justinm4323 I have a viper 950 and the mini version that's about half the size but has the same cat 40 8000 rpm spindle, box ways and Mitsubishi control. Both are crazy rigid. Mitsubishi has free support for life too which is top notch. They're awesome
Not sure why you didn’t drill and ream a hole in the centre of that plate…So you have a true position with a known size so you can calibrate of it…been on the Apps for 20 year and I’ve done that with every plate we’ve installed. Weather @ PAMA or Carnaghi… ?
Didn’t need to for our application, the plate is permanently staying on the table. But I can see when you might want to/need to for taking the plate on and off
