As a 73-year old just picking up the ukulele after taking classical music theory from a composer at the school of the arts, I find I am compelled to translate what you taught into “Theory”to be able to comprehend, retain, apply and generalize your lesson. Which in no ways is meant to disparage your beautiful and useful presentation. So here are a few things I worked out, maybe some others might benefit: - I am so used to A being a minor key that it took a while to realize we are in A major with sharp F, C, and G - I am so used to seeing guitarists and ukesters (?) who don’t know theory call all 7th chords 7, that it took a while to realize that all 3 are really dominant (major-minor) 7ths, so if F, C or G are in the 7th position they have to be flatted from their sharps but not if they are in root, 3rd or 5th position. Of course that’s the nature of a blues scale - I had not encountered the term double stop before, so I had to look it up. Easiest explanation is that it is a “chord” of 2 notes - Sometimes because the back of your right hand obscures your fingers I can’t tell what you are strumming or picking and have to guess. But that part of playing is the key to putting rhythm into melody and deserves some explication. - I figured out that your tablature translates into a sequence of double stops of chord notes 5-3, 6-4, 7-5, and 6-4 or 3-1, 4-2, 5-3, and 4-2. In the long run, I think that will be easier to retain and apply to other keys. All in all, a challenging but rewarding learning experience technically, and I love the Zen! Thank you!
I am so glad you mentioned projects on hold. i am a perfectionist type personality. i often for 16 months played from 2020 December until now august 29 2021 today only played when I completed my housework. As busy older young hearted painter I don't get how free and abstract I can be. Learning to relax in a mess is really hard for me. its a control issue mostly now during covid. thank you for being a safe place. please tell us again it takes time, thank you so blessed
"It takes time...and time takes time". I forget who said this -- maybe it common folk wisdom. Personally I add this: Spending time in a relaxed way, keeping the journey light, accepting our shortcomings, seeing frustration as a friend telling us which way to go (or not go) all leads to good growth....and we enjoy ourselves in the process 😉 Thanks for watching Kaylynn...happy playing 😊🎶🙏

Great stuff, but haven't made is past the first 9 minutes yet. I spent 2 hours playing with the A7 stops, 'merging' them into my regular strumming and fingerpicking of the I chord. It's neat that you can take some chord tones from the IV and V and use them to dress up the I chord, even use them as an implicit IV and V if you wish. Thank you.

"staying within our circle of competence" means, to me, staying in the present moment and practicing our fundamentals within our current skillset without pressuring ourself to go fast and move beyond our momentary level. Patience and faith that the speed will come with mastery of those fundamentals. I have to choose between typing/writing and Uke practice my fingers hurt too much lol....
I really love that strum thru the 12 bar blues! I learned it now, its so cool! Thanks for that! I usually play the banjo as you can see on my little channel but sometimes I just need a uke lesson in between! i should definitely spend more time with the uke. Grüsse aus der schweiz.

Are you using a soprano ukulele or a baritone ukulele or tenor ukulele or what to play this blues music ? I have a soprano ukulele with standard G C E A tuning, so can this be played on a soprano ukulele please ? thanks :) I might just give this a go sometime !Looks like fun ! i love the 12 bar blues rock n roll music ! lol :)
That’s a good question Michael… I usually use that form to make it accessible for beginners and, because the voicing of it sometimes is a better sound. If you prefer the sound of the bar chord version of D7 then please by all means use it 😉🎶✌️
I liked to comment about present moment, relaxation etc... A common problem I face in life and many things,;music brings it to my attention present. Often enough, I find myself pressured to "go fast" and or move beyond rudimentary or fundamental things. Realizing that pressure comes from mother and father as well as x wife and her family , not to mention other people as well I am so sure. Over reaching for advancement, this is like not letting the fundamentals and foundation cure and form properly. Metaphorically, it's not unlike framing your house before letting the concrete foundation form properly. Or worse, trying to roof before you have even formed your walls on an uncured foundation. The "zenlike" state of mind seems to occur when we are simply doing something simple but learning and a challenge, but not frustratingly difficult. If it's frustratingly difficult, I find I am probably trying to go too fast or too advanced before I have formed my foundational learning. I find, it takes about 3 days of practice to learn something and much of the learning occurs in my sleep; I wake up a few days later and my fingers remember what I learned a day or two or three prior. Going slow , staying in the moment, patience with the the short and long term really does make those little fundamentals become 2nd nature and flow better.
My dear friend I'm from Venezudla I play litle what we call here "cuatro" can I use my. " Cuatro" as ukelele an how can convert it in one. Hoe to tune it, I heard there many way to tune it, all depend of the size

Are usually use a standard GCA ukulele… Often with a low G tuning. I also have a baritone but don’t have much time to make lessons for it 😃🎶🤙🎉

Kudos on this video… I have a baritone and try to transpose the chords to fit. This would be the key of E. Using E7,A7and B7. Correct?
